  1. Had lunch at Ruby's today.

Ambiance is nice but tables are VERY close together and things feel a bit crowded. There was a wait for seating due to the small size of the restaurant.

Service was fine – servers were friendly enough but the food took quite a while.

    Food itself was nothing special.
    – Quinoa w/avocado, vegetables, and a boiled egg was nothing I couldn't make and I'm less than adequate in the kitchen.
    – Salad w/chicken was also nothing I couldn't make and the portion size was tiny.

Prices were on the higher side considering the food quantity and quality.

Overall I'm glad we tried Ruby's but I see no reason to return.

  2. The food is great. But the restaurant is too small and it is too loud to have a conversation unless you yell. I was surprised to see such a long wait for a weeknight dinner. The crowd is really Murray Hill (interpret that as you will) but died down at around 9pm.

Groups of 2 probably work best here. Also the fries are the best in NYC if you're into the slightly truffly, super crispy and thin variety.

  3. Finally had the chance to try Ruby's this morning for brunch. A friend and I walked in around 10am and were seated immediately. The staff was very welcoming/friendly and the atmosphere is quaint.

We both ordered avocado toast on grain bread with a poached egg on top. It was excellent! A little spicier than I expected, but not too much.

So excited to have this new spot in the neighborhood. Definitely need to go back for lunch or dinner and try out the regular menu items!

  4. One liner: Come for delicious brunch food, great service, and to hear Australian accents.

Amazing!! I was not prepared for such deliciousness. I'm not familiar with Australian cuisine, but if this is what Australian cuisine is like, I'm prepared to move to Australia. The wait was not terrible for a party of 4 at 11:30, though I know that the wait can be quite ridiculous here. Clean decor and just spacious enough that you don't bump elbows with your neighbors. The waiters all had Australian accents and were very friendly.

Must haves: The Big Breakfast and the pancakes. The big breakfast was not THAT big, and I was able to finish it all. The beans were so so good. The mushrooms underneath the eggs were so savory. The eggs over hard- cooked to perfection. Tart roasted tomatoes, and the best hash brown I have ever had. Honestly. It was a mind-blowing dish. The pancakes were fantastic, but I don't recommend eating them by themselves. The pancakes are essentially drenched in the salted maple syrup, so we balanced out the insane sweetness with the savoriness from our Big Breakfast.

This is definitely a new favorite, and I will definitely be back!

  5. New Ruby's location opened in Murray Hill, looks like the exact same menu, and very similar feel. It's a great addition to the neighborhood- crisp, cool, and inexpensive. I had the pesto pasta, my significant other had the sausage pasta, add some wines and complimentary fries, it was a good meal, and with attentive service. We will be back to try for breakfast/brunch. Welcome to the neighborhood!
