Ruby’s Oyster Bar & Bistro
“However, I feel that this place is a little to formal for me during regular dining hours (outside of sunday brunch).”
“Entrees were lobster thermidor, salmon, softshell crab and swordfish.”
“This is a another little gem in Ruby, suburb in whiteplains NY, a tiny sleepy town or 50 mins from Manahattan.”

Fresh bi-coastal oysters, amazing lobster roll meets gruyere grilled cheese and a great vibe. For what else can anyone ask? Perhaps a side of Lipitor?
Visited with a friend at this gem close to the Rye train station and was impressed with the place. Firstly, their French Martini was delicious. It was a sweeter drink than I usually have but it was well balanced and refreshing on a hot summer evening. My friend ordered the fried oysters which were delicious, but I personally loved the buffalo cauliflower bites that I ordered. There was a very light breading on it and it was perfectly sauced. I had a salmon cobb salad for dinner which was very good… Salmon was cooked just right. I was also impressed with the service. My friend is lactose intolerant and when her dish arrived with cream, they pleasantly took it back and made her a new dish with just tomatoes. I'd be happy to return anytime I'm in Rye.
Really solid spot; one of my family's faves. Surf and turf chili blew my mind actually.
So I came here for restaurant week craving some seafood. My friend and I decided to meet for an early dinner 6 pm. We ended up getting lost so called them up and told them we were running late. They were totally cool with it and we didn't mess up our rsvp.
The one thing that threw me off is the unprofessionalism of our waitress. First off, she kept calling my friend and me "girls". This GIRL was 21 maybe? She kept rushing us, coming over every 2 minutes to ask if we "girls" were ready yet. I'm not one to hold up tables at all, knowing how it is working in restaurants. But jeez it was a bit torturous having her wait on us. It's like she had this look on her face and then spaced out, and then mumbled to herself and then spaced out again and then walked away. And when she finally took our order she didn't return to the table only to ask what we wanted for dessert and immediately after not even one bite of the dessert she dropped the check and then kept coming over to see if we paid yet.
On top of that, this place gets holy crap packed. The tables are sooooo close together! And there was NO room for us to get out, we had to maneuver around tables to decide which way to exit, and then on top of that move a table's chair out of the way to get out. I couldn't even put on my jacket without being terrified to smack someone with my coat in the back of their head!!! No lie!
The raw oysters were good, the lobster ravioli was DELICIOUS. Huge chunks of lobster throughout the sauce YUMMY!! This doesn't make up for the overall experience.
Never ever get the fried oysters, terrible. Overcooked small probably old pieces of oysters with bland dry thick coating of bread crap.
I was a huge fan of Ruby's brunch! From what I can tell, there isn't a bad item on the menu! They have fun specials, and huge list to choose from. It has a few tables outside, but inside is large, and it wasn't very crowded when I was there (added bonus: they take reservations!)
Absolutely a great place to check out!
This is my favorite restaurant in Rye. It is not the fanciest nor does it have the best available food – it's just a really steady performer for food, drinks and atmosphere.
Have been here many times with family, friends and even solo. The bartenders are friendly and engage in conversation if you like. They always have sports on the TV but they don't let the sound create a sports bar feel.
We always go back to the iceberg wedge salad and the fried oysters. The burgers and seafood main dishes are always good as well.
Boy, am I glad we found Ruby's.
Since we moved to the suburbs from NYC, we've struggled to find a restaurant with a solid raw bar. A coworker recommended we check our Ruby's and FINALLY, we found ourselves in luck.
Friday evening, about 6pm, and we easily secured a table in the open windows overlooking the sidewalk. The ambiance is classic French bistro, along with the tables in and outside. There were six different types of oysters to choose from and we tried two of each…all fantastic. In addition, their wines by glass weren't incredibly plentiful in selection but all of them were very solid. I had an appetizer special of Maine steamers for my main course – a huge portion (along with a side of sauteed spinach) – and T went with scallop gnocchi (a variation on cioppino, with an incredible amount of fresh seafood.) Food, a total of three glasses of wine, an espresso, and a dessert knocked us back $200. NOT cheap. But, in my opinion, worth it in the end. To save money, I might order a bottle of wine next time and skip dessert but otherwise, everything else was a great value and seriously on point in it's deliciousness.
Ruby's has claimed the status of "our place" in Westchester…too bad it took over two years for us to find it!
I came here for a lunch meeting and I really enjoyed it.
The wait staff was professional and accommodating and the atmosphere was just what I was looking for – casual yet classy with a nice interior.
I had a salad with goat cheese and a few other ingredients, to which I added a crab cake – and boy was I glad I did, because it was delicioussssss. I was also pleased with the bread that was brought to the table, and although I already said it – I was pleased with our waiter's professionalism and ability to read the situation and leave us to our conversation through minimal and unintrusive visits to the table.
Would definitely recommend, and I would also like to come back for dinner next time I'm in town to try something a little more aligned with their "specialty".
