I was here last night for the first time since it became Rudy's. I was here only one other time when it was still Bensi and that experience was not the best.
Rudy's though, was yummy!
There was a ten minute wait when we got there on a Friday night but it went quickly and we were soon seated in one of their large booths (love). Waiter was friendly and prompt with drinks and our orders. The manager/owner even made the rounds at one point to make sure customers were pleased. I secretly enjoy that for some reason.
My friend ordered a white pie with spinach (she said she loved) and I got a large cranberry, walnut and Gorgonzola salad which I thought was really tasty and hit the spot when paired with bread. The ingredients were fresh and there wasn't too much dressing.
Had a nice little dinner but no room for dessert (even though the dessert stomach is separate). But not to worry. I'll be back. Ew, sorry. I'm not sure why I just went Schwarzenegger on you there…
My in-laws really enjoyed Rudy's, but I feel it has gone downhill fast.
Not that it was ever a 5-star restaurant, but it was consistent and reasonable.
On our last time there, the service was mediocre and the food was subpar. I got the Salmon, which was swimming in way, way too much sauce. The sauce was salty and overpowering and just made the dish feel subpar and sloppy.
My mother-in-law ordered the same Scallops dish she always orders, but this time it was completely different. It was not topped with bread crumbs and herbs as the menu suggests and as she's received multiple times before. Instead, it was covered in a slimey sauce that they said was a Scampi. It was truly inedible and rubbery and far from what is usually ordered. The waitress even said that it did not look right, but when she came from the kitchen she tried to defend it. She didn't eat her meal at all, and I tasted one and could say that I do not blame her.
Rudy's is far too overpriced for serving such mediocre food of poor quality. The only thing that was really edible was their soups. Maybe it's okay for pizza, or the occasional pasta dish, but I wouldn't spend the money on their meat or seafood entrees.
We went there with another couple because we had a gift certificate that we won in a raffle. I am glad to say, I will be patronizing this restaurant again both for their support for the charity where we won the raffle, and also because we really, really liked the place.
It's not a BYO and this was one time I am glad it wasn't. Their sangria was great. In other words it was not overly sweet and was extremely potent.
My wife, the eggplant parm expert, says theirs was comparable to other places where she really enjoys the dish. If I had it, I would have complained that it was on the small side but that's just me. Instead I had a very heaping bowl of linguine with pesto sauce and ricotta cheese.
Our friends had a veal parm and a chicken arugula. They said both were delicious but again it was commented that the veal dish was on the small side. Obviously a guy's thing.
Friendly and efficient service. Oh yeah, they have a pretty extensive gluten free menu.
