Ryan Maguire’s Ale House

“Ryan's is an excellent establishment for lunch or dinner tucked away near the seaport of the financial district.”

“Not your typical tourist trap in the FiDi nor is it priced like a FiDi big swinging dick banker is footing the bill.”

“Came here on a whim for an early dinner after perusing Yelp for dinner options around the South Street Seaport.”

  1. I passed by this place so many times but haven't gone in till recently. I think I was expecting the interior to have a total dive bar/ Irish pub vibe with dark and outdated decor but I was pleasantly surprised. This place has a fairly modern look and great weekday events including Trivia night and Taco night.

I will definitely be back to check out one of their weekday events!

  2. Pretty typical for an Irish pub. Nice enough inside, decent selection of drinks along with a pretty good tap setup, and the food isn't bad.

Not terribly distinguished otherwise– but quite decent in all respects.

    3.5 stars.

  3. I'm usually not the biggest fan of pubs but this place is a really nice spot. Looks like a regular bar from the outside but much nicer in the inside. They have plenty of specials on beer on tap and a wide selection.

I also tried there appetizers. I and my coworkers ordered the calamari, quesadillas, shrimp dumplings, and boneless wings. They were all awesome, but I enjoyed the quesadillas the best! The waitress was a bit slow at first due to the happy hour crowd, however definitely became more attentive as the night went on. Management even comped free shots to I and my coworkers on the house! That is definitely a plus and unheard of especially in Manhattan.

If I'am ever in the financial district again I will come back to enjoy some beers and catch up with some coworkers.

  4. I came here for brunch. The place was nicely decorated in preparation for Saint Patrick's Day. It was nicely done and was not tacky. The place was dimly lit but not too dark.

The waiter was fantastic. He offered very good service.

Complimentary mimosa or Bloody Mary with a purchase of a brunch entree. That's a fantastic deal! Also the brunch prices are lower than the other brunch prices in the area without considering the complimentary drink. I got the Crab Cake Benedict and it was very good.

I'm definitely going to be here for brunch more often. This place is on a side street so it can be easily missed if it weren't for the Ryan Maguire sign on the corner of Fulton and Cliff. This place was awfully empty though this place has so much to offer. Definitely a hidden gem.

  5. Just moved to the city and have been consistently coming here on a weekly basis. I usually get the Ryans burger or the fish and chips, both which are extremely good on a lazy Sunday (or any day for that matter). The crowd there really depends in what time you go. On Sundays if there is no game, it is usually pretty empty. They have a wide variety of beers on tap and the service is usually pretty quick. But there are other places in the area with a livelier crowd (if that's what you're looking for).

Sometimes service could be a bit slow/MIA – and you sometimes really need to wave down the staff to get their attention.

  6. It's true, they have a free dish during happy hour. (Pasta and Sausage that day) It was pretty tasty, so I'm betting the rest of their food is good as well. Small plates though, but I guess it's to share and not be a meal… Happy Hour drinks is only Miller lite and house mixed drinks, but they have a decent selection of beer. Nothing too fancy, so don't come here for beer. Bar food was decent, we got onion rings and cajun fries. Some bars have good fries, this place doesn't. Onion rings were acceptable though.

It wasn't too crowded during happy hour, but this was a Wednesday. Nice atmosphere without the ear splitting music.

  7. Ryan McGuire's Ale House is a place that I have eaten at multiple times during lunch time. I absolutely enjoy eating the restaurant's signature burger with cheese and french fries. Their burgers have always been cooked to perfection! The atmosphere is simple and they have comfortable seats at each table. The staff is pleasant.

  8. Love the ambiance – as you walk in you're greeted with warm tones, cozy feel, wooden work, the gold colored roof coating it's all nice for a bar. Very friendly and attentive waitress, great food options for a bar and it actually taste very good. No loud music, just some tv screens playing football games, mostly touristy crowd on weekends but should be different on weekdays. Will definitely come back when in FiDi.
