  1. I now understand why the Golden Girls would eat all that cheesecake day in and day out – they must have had it delivered from S&S.

I was initially drawn to this place by Yelp, but I quickly learned that this is a pretty famous place in its own right. S&S does one thing and one thing right: cheesecake. They have a few flavors available in two different sizes – that's it. Honestly, that's all you need – this place is no frills in the best way.

The bakery doesn't have a storefront, it's just their kitchen (kinda looks like a hole in the wall). You ring the buzzer and are let in where there's a small table and a cooler showing the different cheesecakes they have.

I went simple and got a small plain cheesecake. Honestly, so good ; it was fluffy and creamy without being too rich – truly the quintessential slice of cheesecake. Believe the other reviews – this place deserves the praise it gets.

I never knew this place existed but I'm glad I discovered it. Everyone better watch out – every party I go to I'll be bringing a cheesecake to spread the love. 😉

  2. WOOOOOOT!!!!
Airy. Fluffy. Light. But still decadent. A thousand times YESSSSSS.

When you are in the hood you might as well visit wave hill too.

now i will stress this in caps: THIS IS THE BEST CHEESECAKE IN NEW YORK PERIOD.
if you ever had the chance to come all the way up to kingsbridge to try out this cheesecake you would know that my caps statement is very true. now with future or do allow me to break this cheesecake down to a tee for you.

    "the gate"
the appearance is very deceiving and almost unrecognizable walking to find it if you never been to this area. even to get into this door you much ring the door bell and be buzzed in from the inside from one of the workers. there is no door knob to even open the door but hey once when your buzzed in your in for  a surprise!

    "breach were in!"
so when you managed to get inside the wonderful cheesecake castle (as i would call it) you will see a counter where you can order one of these cakes roughly $14(for a small size) and 17$(for a large size).they have flavors ranging from strawberry, pineapple, chocolate drizzle, and a good ol plain regular one.

    "fun facts"
this company offers online ordering so if you live in another state i encourage to go to the company website and they will shipp this cheesecake goodness to you!

    "overall"
try this place, you will not regret it and you will slap someone to come back for more!

  4. I've been to this Bakery several times. Every single time I go, I feel like I'm doing an illicit transaction. The interior is no frills. There are not cafe tables or chairs. This is where you go to quickly pick up your cake and pay for it. They don't even have a cash register. But at the end of the day does that even matter when you're buying delicious desserts

S&S cheesecake is one of the best cheesecake I've ever tasted. It's kicks Juniors ass. It's taste perfectly sweet. It's not so sweet that it who makes you want to grab a glass of water. They offer few different flavors. I usually go for the original and it is always a hit at parties. It's usually my go-to Hostess gifts whenever I go to a dinner party.

The only down fall of this shop is the limited hours. They close pretty early. Fortunately, a few nearby shops carry a stock of their cheesecakes, including Garden Gourmet.

  5. They really don't lie when they say it's the best cheesecake ever!
Simply amazing. the creaminess, the flavor, the richness… ugh. too good.
I've only tried the plain original a few times, which are amazing so i hope to try the other flavors too.

I got to the shop around 8am and it looks like a dark warehouse with a shut door. Just ring the bell and once they buzz you in just walk in and tell them what you want. It kinda looks like someone your parents would not want you walking alone because it has a feeling that you might get kidnapped and thrown into the huge walk in freezer amidst the boxes. But, i would not mind this at all… because they have LOADS of cheesecake in there. The guy was super nice though.

    TIPS:
Hours are 6am to 3pm! so go early in the morning!
Also, if you are buying directly from the shop, BRING CASH!!! cash only (there is a bank of america 1 block away and Chase about 7 blocks away)
PRice is also a lot cheaper in person vs buying online. For the plain original, a small is 15 and large is 27 dollars. So if you plan to buy in person, you should call ahead to confirm the price there (then bring cash).

  6. I am hardly in the Kingsbridge area and asked a few people within my circle if they were in the mood for cheesecake so we could finally get our S&S on.

I easily found non-metered parking, which generally is not the norm in this area and walked directly across the street to S&S. This nondescript, factory-type, welded, steel-mesh, grey-painted, windowed entryway had a look that screamed 'beware do not enter'. The store itself slightly reminded me of an off-limits warehouse that shouldn't be entered by the public and was the most intriguing part of this journey, more so than the item I came for.

After being buzzed in, and walking into a dark, dank area, a young lady came from the back with a pleasant and prideful demeanor. You could see that she was proud of her product with her infectious smile which in turn made me happy.  After a very quick $17.00 exchange, I left with my purchase of a small plain cheesecake. I walked out of this old school spot, infectious with happiness and ready to boast to everyone how this cheesecake has been coined by many as the best in the Bronx. I couldn't wait….

Hold up!? How could this be? Bad batch maybe? Over baked maybe, as the top was slightly burnt? Or maybe that's just the norm. I was so disappointed, as I was looking forward to a creamy and smooth texture, not crumbly and dry; the flavor and texture was not to my liking. Within my circle, the feedback was half for and half against, sad to say I was on the side of against. The half that were for it, thanked me for the introduction and happily ravaged the remainder.

I will chalk, no pun intended, this up as an off day or maybe this is a normal day as S&S will certainly be okay without me due to their long standing reputation and following.

I was looking forward to enjoying this…Le sigh!

    2.5 Stars

  7. Was able to come out here on a whim during their actual hours to grab a cheesecake since I've heard so much about it. It's literally right off the 238th street stop on the 1 line. I came around 2pm and the gate to the warehouse was open so I rang the doorbell until someone came out. It's literally a warehouse with a bunch of boxes piled on the side and non slip rubber mats.

The cheesecakes for sale to the public are just stored in a fridge up front. Only whole pies are for sale so I got the strawberry cheesecake. Strawberries were fresh, crumb crust was on point and cake itself was light. For comparison it is much lighter in texture than juniors but not as light or fluffy as Eileen's. I'd prefer Eileen's over S&S because I'm a fan of the light and fluffy versions over the denser cakes. They also serve slices of their classic cheesecake at Katzs so for those that don't want to make the trek and are looking to try I'd recommend going there instead.

  8. S & S does not stand for:

Sensual & Sinful (although that would be appropriate).
Sadism & Sex (although that would be fun).
Spit & Swallow (which are not mutually exclusive).
Snatch & Stick (although that would be hilarious).

What it does stand for is Scrumptious & Spectacular Cheesecake. It's the best Cheesecake, not only in NYC, but probably in the USA. Eli's in Chicago is good, yes. But S & S stakes its claim for being the very best. You'll have to come here and find out for yourself.

What to get: A slice of regular Cheesecake.

If you order it by the slice, it's not too expensive. If they're closed (which they often are), then go to Van Cortlandt Grocery just 5 stores to the West on the same side of the street, and they sell S & S slices and whole cakes there for similar prices with much more extended hours.

You have to come… ahem, sorry, had to clear my throat. You have to come and try this Cheesecake. It's worth making a pilgrimage out to the Bronx for (along with Gyro King, Greek Express, Duck-a-genie Burek, El Atoradero for Mexican, and Louie & Ernie's Pizza).

You'll be glad that you, er, came. It's so smooth and silky and sinful. Heavy and filling and yet dreamy and swirly and orgasmic. It's typical NY-style Cheesecake but it's NY-style perfected.

Easily the best Cheesecake in the Big Apple, and it's right up there with Sensual & Sinful, Sadism & Sex, Spit & Swallow, and Snatch & Stick on the list of "the best things named S & S in human history."
