FYI, there's a $15 min for credit cards! I got the lunch deal-$8.50 for a steak burrito with some juice thrown into it (she gave me fruit punch).
I also got a huge tub of guacamole with chips, which were yummy!
What a cute little place! This is right up the block from my apartment so it is super convenient. It's TINY but cozy. The selection is great! The chips and salsa have a nice kick. I ordered tacos which were very authentic. They are super friendly here and very attentive. I found out they have delivery so I definitely will be trying that out soon!
This review is only for delivery which I was very pleased with! During a snowstorm, delivery is NYC tends to be awful, but I had my food within 40 minutes of ordering. The lunch special was extremely affordable – $8 for a good-sized burrito and a soda? Why not! The burrito was pretty run-in-the-mill, but it did the trick! I got a side of guac too which was inside the burrito – good call on that. Would definitely order from here again or go there to eat next time.
Yummy crispy tacos.
Minus two stars for the poor attitude of the lady who took my order. She almost seemed annoyed that I was ordering food at her restaurant, even though I paid in cash and ordered something simple.
WOW! As a girl born and raised in Southern California (AKA Little Mexico), I am always looking for truly authentic Mexican food in the northeast. Sabor A Mexico does not disappoint.
I have ordered from here through Seamless for dinner and tried many things on the menu, and all has been quite excellent! The enchiladas are truly authentic, delicious, and super cheesy and gooey – mm'mm. The tacos are excellent. Even the rice and beans are delicious. The guacamole is also quite good.
I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for REAL Mexican food on the UES.
Fabulous little (very little) Mexican place with authentic food, sweet service that makes you feel you're visiting your Mexican cousin or aunt at their little restaurant, great food.
The atmosphere. Describing this as a very cute charming little hole in the wall restaurant – calling that in the nicest way as it is barely visible on a side street; I've passed it countless times. There are possibly 8 little tables and while nothing fancy, the decor is cute, with casual Mexican Decor and charm.
The service. I felt like a Mexican cousin or auntie was waiting on us. So sweet, attentive and friendly. I said I was picky with my guacamole and she offered to let me taste before ordering . (Was fantastic.) I told her I liked Mezcel margaritas and she recommended another smoky tequila they had which was super. I asked what she recommended for an entree, what was a signature dish, and she spoke proudly of their mole sauce as being authentic and homemade as opposed to bought package… And offered to let me taste the sauce before ordering it . So sweet and attentive !
The food:
Guacamole. I am a guac snob and this was fantastic . Freshly made, with big avocado chunks, just right. Just the right amount of spice, and when my friend wanted less than mild, she brought a side of chopped jalapeños.
Chicken with mole sauce . Really wonderful. The sauce while different than what I've ever ordered was perfectly flavored, paired well and just the right amount of sauce with the tenderly cooked chicken pieces.
Drinks – my Mezcel margarita and my friends sangrias were fabulous.
Highly recommend for an authentic feeling Mexican food and service experience when you want to feel like you're in a tiny little hidden Mexican spot with no frills but lots of charm .
Had to venture into the city today to bring a friend some things that had been sitting around waiting for their new home and after I dropped them off she suggested we grab some food. Now with my not being up in this part of the city all that much I had to trust her judgement in this culinary mission, but to her credit this particular friend is adept in matters food.
The place is in a word quaint based on their being about six small tables which is nice if you get there early enough but not if there is a wait. Fortunately there was only a couple of people inside when we arrived and we were able to order quickly. They had a wonderful selection of tacos on the menu so I opted for the chorizo one in a soft taco and we decided to share an appetizer of chicken enchiladas. For my main meal I had what was listed as a Burrito Loco and this had a nice kick to it. It was a shredded beef mixture inside the burrito with a good level of heat (and yet I still put some hot sauce onto it because that is just what I do). All in all, very tasty and very filling. Didn't endeavor any dessert but I know for sure I will return here if I am interested in Mexican fare and am in this vicinity.
One negative was that we did not get any chips and salsa put on the table. Since I love that stuff I was slightly annoyed.
Nice little Upper East Side Mexican cantina in a nondescript basement cranny. Walked in on a rainy Sunday afternoon and there was no one but the owner flipping between Mexican soaps and the Giants game.
Got the guacamole–solid! The tacos were good (Al Pastor and a spicy chicken) and the rice and beans were decent. The cafe con leche was amazing–creamy and nearly sweet without actually being sweet.
There's a menu of Mexican standards and a few more interesting items, like Mexican kebabs. But you'll have to try those yourselves.
