  1. Great pizza, they  actually serve by the slice, open til 12am.

It's a combination of a NY and a thin crust slice with it being cooked in a brick oven.  Not as saucy as NY slices and just enough cheese like a thin crust slice.

    Check it out.

  2. Good slice, but can't say I was too impressed.  I would go back, it is definitely better than average.

  3. I thought I wrote a review for here before- I guess not lol Anyway, Sac's has been around Astoria since I was like a teenager- and that was at least 20 years ago or close to it haha I'm old. Anyway, it's been the same owners ever since thy opened. I know Domenico is one owner and Anthony is the other. Both of them are awesome guys. Nothing but nice, courteous, and professional when you talk with them and always smiling.

Inside you have a fireplace, and the air smells like that coal oven. Smells so good! I love the ambiance here too, it's very cozy and you have room between tables so you're not on top of each other. Also, there is a separate section to sit in just for the pizza lovers. The service is always great. As a matter of fact just this past weekend when I went, I went kind of late on Saturday night and had a very charming and funny waiter, Leon. He made my mother and I laugh a lot. I like to give credit where credit is due- and he was just very pleasant.

So, the thing that's different about Sac's pizza is that they use fresh mozzarella on their stuff and it seriously makes a big difference when it comes to greasy and non greasy food. The dough even tastes difference from other pizza places. The food is never greasy. Their pizza is just "different" – I've never had pizza like theirs before and it's very delicious! I guess this is what makes them stand out to me from all the places I've tried. They use the same cheese on their dinner dishes too- and again, it stands out to me. They have excellent eggplant dishes which are my favorites. Chicken dishes are delicious too, and naturally so are their pasta dishes. I've never had anything from here that was bad.

On this night I ended up getting my favorite appetizer- the asparagus wrapped in prosciutto! It's so good!! And for my dinner- I had the veal domenico but a half plate. I hadn't eaten here in a while and they never had half plates before which is a genius idea because for people like me who can never finish the entire dinner- now can! Lol I finished my dinner off with the chocolate lava cake- you can't go wrong with that! It's a perfect small size too.

Overall- I never have any complaints about here. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are all great! I've also gotten delivery from here as well and again- no complaints. They are a little more pricey than other pizza places around here, but you really are getting your money's worth! And I don't blame them- Astoria rents are crazy!

Definitely stop in here if you haven't!

  4. Dear Sac's,

I miss you. I often consider paying for the flight from Florida just for one bite. I think about you often. I am so sad we are no longer neighbors.

    Until next time,
    Cat

  5. Mid afternoon on a Friday I'm out to lunch with my co-workers who chose Sac's. We ate everything on the appetizer menu so let me tell you my faves:
The Mozzarella e Pomodoro was really tasty
    Melanzane Rollatini was heavenly
Funghi Portobello was light & perfect

We got two pizzas: mama's old fashioned & a regular, MUST TRY!! THe coal oven does wonders to the pizza & I know pizza, top 3 in all of Queens easily.

We also tried a few entrees: Pappardelle all'Amatriciana, manicotti & Ravioli di Spinaci. My Sicilian co-worker loved the 1st kind, I loved the manicotti & the ravioli were yummy too.

Dessert: if you're into Apple pie I would definitely try to catch their country Apple pie which won some award in Ohio. 2 thumbs up!! The tiramisu is good as is the tartufo & the hot lava cake is something to write home about. Chocolate lover here & I was enchanted with this!!!

  6. TL; DR: I do not understand the hype.  Maybe Sac's is best experienced as a dine in option rather than for delivery.  Though, for this price point, I don't see how that would be the case.  There are multi competing coal- or wood-oven pizzerias in this area – and throughout the city – which offer the same product with much better execution at an equal or lower price point.  And multiple Italian family restaurants – let alone diners – who offer equal and better parm at a much better portion-to-price ratio.

    My experience:

Ordered Mama's with sausage, garlic, and pepperoni.  I was starving (which usually means EVERYTHING tastes PHENOMENAL), and thought it was awesome to have arrived barely 20 minutes after I submitted the order.  Then I realized there was no way this was made from scratch and delivered in that amount of time.

The product reflected as much.  The mozzarella was not fully melted (whole slices came off the pie as I tried to pick up the first piece), the garlic was closer to raw than cooked (making it overpowering and cloying), and the entire pie was somewhere between room temperature and luke warm.  Even with a reheat, flavor didn't improve.

Obviously pre-made pie with toppings added for a quick reheat.  Rather unacceptable for a nearly $21 medium pie.

Paid $10 for a half portion of chicken parm.  No pasta was included, and there was no option on the delivery site to pay their excessively high – for Manhattan, let alone Queens – $7 surcharge for a side of spaghetti.  Even if you pay the nearly $19 charge for a large parm, you only get to choose salad or soup.  I have never in my life seen no carb side offered for parm, be it in a restaurant, or Italian family's home.

It arrived, thankfully, hot, with the same mozzarella used on the pizza properly melted.  Nice string/stretch to the mozz….but a pretty meager portion for $10 with no side….and the flavor wasn't so outstanding as to compensate for the portion size.

    Just don't understand the hype.

  7. I would like to give some love to this pizza place since I have used it many times for delivery. It is the best pizza delivery option in the area. I really like the mushroom pizza as well the pepperoni.

The house salad is really good too

  8. We've been meaning to eat here since last year and just never found the time. However, once we saw that it was listed as the best Pizza in Astoria, we knew we needed to try it out before the lines start forming. I think the Grandma was helping out as I saw a little old lady walking around the kitchen – super cute!

We ordered a linguine with clams and a pizza. The pasta was mediocre but the pizza really was fantastic. Go with the larger pie as the slices are larger and more fun to eat 🙂 This is definitely our go to pizza place from now on!
