This place is super excellent, but you gotta be prepared to wait because even at 10pm on a Sunday night, they have insane lines and we waited for almost an hour to get a table. BUT the service is very friendly, and the food is great. As others have mentioned, the lollipop chicken is awesome. And I also highly recommend the mango lassis (served with whipped cream), manchurian chow mien with vegetables, and manchurian tiger prawn. The Sagar fried rice was a bit on the ho hum side – we should have probably gotten the manchurian fried rice b/c we got lucky with all the other manchurian dishes. However, all in all, it was a delicious meal and we all left stuffed and happy.
It's my first time eating Bengali Chinese food. My friend recommended Sagar Chinese, so we ventured our one sunny afternoon.
I think the bad reviews is directly to service, but I didn't encounter any bad service for my quick lunch. The lunch specials were $4.95 to $6.95, and the service was speedy and courteous.
We got the shrimp fried rice and the Manchurian chicken with vegetable rice. The Manchurian chicken, the dish to try for Bengali Chinese cuisine, reminded me a spiced up version of a General Tso (but then the last time I ate General Tso was about 15 years ago). Mixed it with the vegetable fried basmati rice, and it's a very satisfying meal.
The food here is actually pretty good during dinner. I often come here with family for dinner and we usually end up waiting 10-20 minutes for a table during busy nights (i.e. the weekend). I do think it's hyped up though, and the quality of the food isn't really very representative of the price you pay for it.
The lunch menu leaves MUCH to be desired, however. I brought my friend here for lunch for the first time, and we were both astounded at the quality of the food in comparison to its dinner items. My friend was actually surprised that this place has good food! To put it nicely, I'm never coming here for lunch ever again.
The service is not really consistent. Some of the waiters are really nice, while some are just meh. The one time I came for lunch was when I had a cold. I ended up having a coughing fit while trying to order, and the waiter completely ignored it, tried to talk over my coughing (mind you, I was struggling to catch a breath) and asked my friend to finish ordering for me. And then he just walked away.
Nice decor. A real gem inside of hillside. The masala fish stick have a very sweet sauce. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to try some different food.
Their lollipop chicken/sauce is the only thing worth getting from here. It's pretty awesome and that's the only reason I gave it 2 stars. The rest of the food I'm not really a fan of. There are much better halal fusion options only a few minutes drive away.
