  1. I love this place!! The pho is authentic and delivery is super fast. Before I moved close by, I used to trek for this place when ever I needed a bahn mi or pho fix.
The pho is what keeps me ordering from this place. The broth is so tasty (get spicy of you can handle it! I thought I could) and the meat so fresh. They give you all the classic accompaniments like basil, lime, sprouts, Hunan and chili sauces. With the meat comes the meat, onions, and noodles. I always substitute the vermicelli noodles for udon with no problems.

Will miss this place when I leave the neighborhood.

  2. Saiguette has pretty good sandwiches. It's a decent spot for Vietnamese dishes (but not for pho in my opinion) in this neighborhood, albeit a little expensive. There are a couple of seats, but it is really more of a takeout spot. In fact, everyone working here seems to spend a majority of their time filling delivery orders.

Pho with raw beef, brisket, tripe & tendon ($11.50) – thin rice noodle, beef broth, onion, lime, bean sprout, basil, jalapeno, hoisin, sriracha:
The broth had good flavor. The rest of it wasn't great. I wouldn't order pho here again. The ingredients come pre-packaged in a plastic bowl. The broth comes piping hot from a plastic container. I wasn't happy to pour the steaming hot broth from one plastic container to another. After pouring, I had to wait a few minutes while stirring everything together for two reasons – 1) to wait for the broth to cool a little, 2) to get the noodles and other ingredients to separate because they were all stuck together. The tendons and tripe were also a little tough. The price is rather high, especially for something that resembled instant noodles in plastic containers.

Laksa with chicken ($4.50 for small size) – curry & coconut milk soup with rice vermicelli, bean sprouts, basil, lime:
It's not the best laksa, but it is a much better option for noodle soup here than their pho. The coconut curry soup had very good flavor. I'm not used to the clear vermicelli noodles in my laksa, but it was pretty good too. It's great that it comes in a small size in case you can't decide whether you want soup or a sandwich.

They've got a good selection of very filling and tasty banh mi. All come with the usual ingredients – cucumbers, pickled carrots, pickled jalapenos, spicy chili mayo on homemade bread. I've tried the…

Classic Pate & Pork Terrine Banh Mi ($8) – delicious sandwich that includes pork and some Vietnamese ham.
Grilled Lemongrass Pork Shoulder ($9) – good flavored pork, couldn't really taste the lemongrass, but I could definitely smell its fragrance.
Grilled Flank Steak Sandwich ($11) & Grilled Skirt Steak ($11):
Both steak sandwiches are great. I can't really taste or see the difference between the two though.

As much as I enjoy their banh mi, they are on the expensive side. Good thing the sandwiches are very large and filling.

Sticky Rice Banana Pouch ($7.50 for 2) – sticky rice, black beans, jack fruit, banana, coconut milk wrapped in banana leaf:
Mr. Joy said these would be good to try. They're quite good indeed. Sweet, but not too sweet. The jack fruit is the best part. However, it's pretty expensive for sticky rice.

I would definitely order their banh mi again and possibly other items on their menu, just not the pho.

  3. Saiguette makes some darn good broth. You can definitely it's the kind that's been cooking all day/night.

As one of the few Vietnamese restaurants located in the UWS, I was pleasantly surprised. The seating is one of the smallest I've seen, hence why they probably make their dishes takeaway. There's literally 6 stools that face the streets that you can sit on and it is very compact, so I'd recommend doing takeaway when ordering here.

I paid $12 for pho with beef, tendon, and tripe. They give you the broth separately and place all the noodles and meats in one plastic bowl. They also place jalapeños, hoisin sauce, hot sauce, and veggies separately as well. Everything is given in a good portion that will definitely leave you full.

Service is the usual, haha. I usually get the same kind of service when going to Vietnamese restaurants: focused on getting your order in and out. They were slightly friendlier than most, since most of their customers aren't your typical Asian customers who are used to blunt service.

The girls next to me ordered some lemon pepper banh mi (?), which looked pretty good so I'll give that a try next time!

If you're in the UWS and are too lazy to head to Chinatown or wherever the cheaper pho alternatives are, Saiguette is a good place to go!

  4. I'm so thankful I don't live nearby, because I would be spending all of my money here if I did! A friend and I had been plotting to come here for a while, and I'm kicking myself for not going earlier. This place is so good.

We both got pho and the lemongrass pork bahn mi sandwich to share. Both were phenomenal! The pho was so tasty and they gave you a few sauces and fixings on the side to add in. The pork in the bahn mi sandwich was so thick and tender and had the perfect amount of veggie crunch in it.

The seating space in this place is pretty limited, with a counter lining the wall/window space if you feel inclined to sit. Otherwise I'd call ahead and order for pick up so you don't have to wait in line.

  5. HUGE bahn mi

Came here per rec of a friend and I'm glad I tried it. It's a trek from my place in Brooklyn so I'm not sure when I'll be back but I'd check out if in the area. Sandwiches were a lot larger than other bahn mi sandwiches I'm used to. Had the roast pork and it tasted like BBQ pork (cha siu – to all my canto folks). Generous amounts of meet for ~$10

No bathroom, I asked. Woman told me to try the bar two doors down – it worked!

  6. A great authentic Vietnamese home kitchen in NYC. When you need a good banh mi or pho fix, this is the place to go.
    Hypes:
    – Great place for takeout and delivery
    – The Banh Mi sandwich is one of the best i've had

    Gripes:
    – Not enough seating
    – Broth could be more flavorful

  7. Walking by Saiguette, it doesn't look like much – there's not a lot of seats or decor, but if you're craving Vietnamese food (which seems pretty sparse in the area), but don't want to make the trek down to Chinatown, then this might be your place.  There aren't a lot of good vegetarian (and absolutely no vegan) options, but it's still pretty good because you can't beat rice noodles in a great broth.  They separate the noodles, bean sprouts, and broth so that the noodles don't get soggy.

Also, he veggie nem is to die for.  Seriously, I think I enjoyed that more than the pho.

  8. How did I not know about this place sooner?? The banh mi's here are on point and arguably the best I've had in Manhattan. I've been obsessed with the roasted pork shoulder sandwich, which is filled with a generous portion of meat + veggies and packed with flavor. I'm generally full by the time I eat half of a sandwich, but still manage to finish the rest because I just can't resist.. It's really that good, trust me.

I've also tried their pork dumplings, which I'm not too crazy about. The dumplings themselves are pretty bland, even with the dipping sauce they include. I plan to try their pho when I finally grow tired of their banh mi's, which will definitely not be anytime soon.

$10 minimum for credit card. Limited seating. Fast service. The lady taking orders in the front is the queen of multitasking. Always impressed by how she manages to ring me up while taking orders on the phone (all at super speed too).
