  1. Loved the ambience..But abit noisey for a Sunday night..took advantage of the $29.95 Restaurant week 3 course special …the onion soup was OK,but not memorable… moules were flavorable ..but   a bit too small…the trout grenobolese was full of flavor, but might have  been a bit too heavy handed with the bacon..texture  of fish was perfect however …the crusty deck leg was as good as duck can get. For dessert I enjoyed a 5 star Creme Brulee…This Bistro may not be upto the quality of Buffet la Gare which it replaced …but I will return since this spot may still be a work in progress.

  2. My husband and I have been house hunting in the Rivertown areas. Saint George may be our new go to! It is conveniently located near the metro north, in downtown Hastings, and close to the Farmers Market, if you want to grab brunch after your Saturday farmers market trip.

The food is classic French. The restaurant is lovely with everything you would want and expect from a great French bistro. The hanger steak is delish and I love the escargot! Our waitress was friendly and attentive.

We are already looking forward to returning for dinner.

  3. Hastings On Hudson is cute during the day. Its small shops add a charming feel to the neighborhood. At night, however, Hastings On Hudson is entirely picturesque. The town, appealed to me instantly. 'Christmas' white lights adorn storefronts adding a fascinating, whimsical, sleepy-town touch.

We promptly sat for our 7pm reservation in a really nice 2-seater table almost facing a wine rack and the wooded stairwell leading to their upper level dining room. We began our night with a hazelnut Frisée salad and escargots, which were succulent and flavorful. I inquired about the dressing in my salad and mentioned to her to please omit since I'm allergic to mustard.

Don't mistake Saint George to have rustic features. On the contrary, Saint George oozes with classic, defining French bistro characteristics: modest in scale, wood floors throughout, an ample bar and tin ceilings that are infamous in bistros. All adding an elegant feel from the exterior leading to its interior.

Cocktails were exceptionally potent and unique. What I truly liked about their menu, is that it's straightforward and not overwhelming. I decided on the Atlantic Char on a bed of shaved fennel, diced pears and pomegranate, but it too called for mustard. I asked, if their chef could possibly substitute the mustard dressing with an alternative, and that I would greatly appreciate the extent of the preparation.

Our server yet again, alleviated the situation and my Atlantic Char was prepared sans mustard. Although the fish was flavorful, the end result of the fennel and pears lacked. I chalked it up on the fact that the added component of the required mustard dressing was eliminated. I just wished for a substitute jus and my fennel to be dressed in some way. Don't misunderstand me, my fish was luscious, it just needed that added component.

Servers were point-blank on their toes, no reminders of any kind-whatsoever. I sincerely like Saint George's tone: elegant, yet lay back- if that's such a term. Everyone laughing, eating, chatting away and having a wonderful evening.

Would I return? Absolutely! Aside from that very, very slight wrinkle, I can definitely see myself revisiting Saint George for more quality, tongue-tingling dinners and try their lunch menu.

  4. After a ridiculously long day of exploring nearly every inch of Westchester County, Saint George saved my weary soul. I originally had an 8pm reservation, around 6pm realized there was NO way I was going to be any shape to enjoy a nice meal (which seemed rather possible given the other Yelp reviews). We popped in just after six and they accommodated the last minute change with no fuss. Seated up stairs, small view of the river and super charming decor. By 6:30 the room filled up very quickly, but the service remained polite and swift. I had the pate (excellent, pickled radish that accompanied was a nice treat). Escargot came out bubbling in butter and herbs. Ample amount of bread was supplies to soak up butter and vehicle for pate.  I had the market fish (rainbow trout) pan fried or roasted (can't recall) on peas, creamed leeks and pancetta. My husband had steak frite with a very, very perfect béarnaise.

Too tired and full for dessert.
I'll be back to work my way through the menu.

  5. This review is for brunch on Saturday. We both had steak and eggs. The hanger steak was very flavorful and prepared perfectly just the way I like it medium rare. The eggs were fluffy, and perfectly done. What is it about French restaurants and eggs. They really make an art out of the preparation of a couple of eggs. They were wonderful. We also both had cocktails. Jule had a corps reviver #2 and I had their house special sparkling Negroni. Both were great. We will go back for dinner.

  6. My brother had been eyeing this place for a while so today we decided to come here for brunch.

I love the look of this place: the pressed tin ceilings, dark wood tones, an impressive bar in the center of the dining room. It all exuded vintage French bistro – they really cinched it.

We both decided to start with their onion soup. They put a slight spin on it by adding duck bullion and confit, they also melt gruyere cheese on a large crouton instead of melting the cheese over the top. The soup was good – not overly salty which I appreciated. You can really taste the duck; the bread and cheese were just enough. I also had their omelette dish which changes daily – today's was filled with ham, spinach, and gruyere cheese. It came with a side salad (basic greens) and a small potato pancake. The omelette was tasty – the filling was neatly packaged inside the egg which made for neater eating. The greens and potato were basic but tasty as well. We decided to have dessert and went with the profiteroles – not the most impressive ones I've had but good nonetheless.

Service was good, and overall I had a great meal. It's not cheap, but I would gladly come back here either for brunch or to explore their dinner offerings.

  7. The dishes, like their prices, are quite rich. But still, I would go back because the room is adorable, service is attentive and attentive and, the meal was pretty good.

First, the room. This is an unqualified rave. There's a vintage French bistro theme that feels genuine and not the least bit Disneyworld. From the tin ceiling to the old bar, Saint George looks really good. Service was friendly and helpful too.

I was happy with the free bread basket, which came warm with plenty of butter. Appetizers were great. The Crab Mayonnaise ($12) was loaded with fresh crab meant and homemade mayo. The $8 Beef Tartare was quite large and tasty too. Both appetizers came with more bread, this time nicely toasted.

Both entrees were beautifully presented. My only complaint was that they were too salty. My trout ($25) was just a tiny bit too salty. The Pork Confit ($22) was really salty but we ate it anyway because it was prepared so nicely — and this meal was costing us.

The problem I see from the Pork Confit experience is that some of the food looks better than it tastes. This was also definitely the case with dessert.

When we asked what was popular, the waiter said the Profiteroles ($9). But these classic French cream puffs were not light and puffy. The hollowed-out choux pastry looked the part, with two puffs sliced open and stuffed with vanilla ice cream. But the pastries were heavy, gummy and totally lacking in personality. The ice cream was okay but not special. The best part was the generous drizzle of chocolate sauce.

So this is what I'll do when I go again…

The Saint George menu has about a dozen appetizers and about half a dozen entrees. Next time, I will order a bunch of appetizers and skip the entrees. I'll probably end up spending about the same but I will get more variety. Might end up with more food too.

We were also smart to show up before 6:30 p.m. This was a Wednesday night and by 7:30, the place was packed.

P.S. — Soda refills were free for us. That's worth noting because it costs $2.75 to order a club soda or ginger ale.

  8. What a wonderful wonderful place to go to for brunch!

I have to admit, I'm not big into going out for brunch, because most places I have been to have just been a disaster, and it was just cheap and disappointing.  But off a drunk late night whim a.k.a. great idea when you're drunk but terrible idea to try to wake up sober/hungover….it was definitely something memorable!

I made reservations (drunk the night before) for 4, and a 5th person decided to join us last minute, which they were able to accommodate for about 12:30.

There was a good crowd still, and yet it seemed like the service was fully concentrated on our table, and only our table.

The food was impeccable, the trout hollandaise was the most perfect combination of crispy, creamy, salty, that I have had.  It sounded so good that 3 out of 5 of us ended up getting it.  YUMMMM!!

The escargot were piping hot, perfectly seasoned, not overly salty.  Perfect accommodation to the bread basket that they kept on bringing.  The oysters, unfortunately were out of a few types but we ended up trying other types that were fresh and delicious as well.

The bloody mary's were made with love, garnished with pretty lemon, lime, celery, and even olives.  And they weren't stingy with the alcohol, definitely hangover cure! I even tried my cousins mimosa and is was made with fresh juice as well.

And I guess my cousin has been there before where she said hi to the owner, and he must've overheard that it's her birthday brunch, so he sent us over free dessert and coffee as well.

Just a wonderful experience and even though this was about a month ago, it was such a great time that I remembered it just like it was yesterday! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
