This is a lovely little restaurant! The rolls are great. Everything tastes so fresh and binds mellifluously.
Rob M. – i noticed what you said about the lady!! It was funny because that was my reaction as I watched her handle the calls.
Aside from that – this place is great. My only suggestion would be to put little candles on the tables – it's pretty dark in there.
food = awesome. won't hurt your wallet.
Recently had the soft-shell crab appetizer. It was ok.
Didn't taste blatantly frozen. But also did not seem fresh at all.
I'm also not a fan of the hot sake. Do people really enjoy this stuff?
I'm a bit jaded because I recently got very sick immediately after eating here.
Also jaded because the sushi options in Ridgewood are insanely limited.
I'll keep going, but will definitely be a bit more cautious in regards to my food choices.
It's all about the Tiffany roll here. Even if you aren't a big fan of sushi or Japanese cuisine in general, it's a must that you try it. I think, if I'm not mistaken, it's a tempura California roll. Anyway, it's the best speciality roll I've ever tasted. Service could be better, parking is tough sometimes, but the food is good here and there Japanese beer selection is good too, definitely try the Echigo.
Came here for a sushi fix for lunch one the weekend. There aren't many good restaurants in my area but this one is one of the better Japanese / sushi spots!
We ordered the seafood udon, the salmon bento box and the 3 sushi combo.
The seafood udon was flavorful and good portion. My sister enjoyed the bento box and I also enjoyed the salmon avocado, eel avocado and spicy tuna rolls. They aren't huge rolls but still relatively filling.
They also include hit sake with the meal upon request which was a nice addon.
This mainly our go to spot when we want to eat sushi j the Ridgewood neighborhood.
Good sushi for Glendale but nothing spetacular compared to other joints. Parking sucks around Myrtle but once you've overcome that hurdle and walk inside, get ready to eat some sushi!
Sakura is pretty busy with patrons ordering take out. If you order in, the food comes in a relative short period of time. One good thing is that they have some good deals. For $10.95 you can get any 3 regular rolls with soup or salad. Talk about a steal. I knew a place in Forest Hills that is now closed which used to be $8.50. This is the closest I could find to such a bargin!
Anyway, my bf and I were super hungry for some sushi. We considered getting the 3 rolls each but then my bf saw sushi platter #1. For $29.95 you order 7 regular rolls and either a rainbow, a tiffany roll, or shrimp tempura. So in total you get 8 rolls. I can't remember all the rolls we ordered but some were-white tuna, spicy tuna, shrimp mango, sabaeri, shrimp cucumber etc. For the special roll we got the rainbow. Food came out within 10 or 15 min and was nicely arranged on a boat! The rolls were pretty small and although they were fine, I felt like they were missing something, perhaps a crunch or more flavor. The special rainbow roll was the same size as the regular roll.
All in all it was good but we were still hungry. I'm glad to see this in Glendale.
The Japanese place to go if you live around here. Take out or eat in is equally good, the portions are very generous and I love the deserts.
They also have great teriyaki and overall, it's a great place with a cozy, intimate atmosphere.
Felt like a fast-food place with tables. Well, the takeout menu IS the menu they hand you. Let's see… there was the watery miso soup with not a cube of tofu in sight and mediocre salmon sushi that looked wimpy and prepackaged. The quality of rice used for the roll was not great either. The salmon roe (ikura) had a bitter, vinegary aftertaste. I know, right? The sea urchin wasn't bad, not fishy, not creamy… no taste really . Basically, everything tastes just like the price… which is CHEAP.
Ok, to be fair, the seaweed salad tasted like it should and for just $3.50… which heightened my expectation for the other stuff.
