  1. Ordered lunch from here while visiting my Mom yesterday, shes not the biggest Japanese food fan (my fave) so I considered this a big step lol.
The delivery was fast so thats a plus. I had the Fresh Tuna Terryaki lunch special which came with rice, Caifornia Roll and soup or salad. For 8.99 in Manhattan not a bad deal.  he tuna was pretty good, decent sized piece but was a bit too overdone,I like my tuna a little more on the rare side. The sauce was good, not too gloppy, more on the sweeter side of the terryaki spectrum. The Miso was ok, nothing special. My problem was with the California roll, not the roll itself which tasted fine but first that they only give 3 pcs. Ok maybe Im nitpicking but Im used to Brooklyn where you get the whole roll with special. Biggest issue was that the rolls were sitting in a pool of terryaki sauce! If you know the sauce is gonna leak in then put the roll in a separate tray. Luckily m Mom hates Cali rolls and gave me hers. This is a small and easily fixed problem that would have iven you 4 instead of 3 stars. Come to think of it why doesnt Yelp let us give half stars? This would have so been a 3 and a half star review? But aas thats a debate for another day.

  2. I got the Sakura Platter — which was incredibly disappointing — it's basically just a Sushi Special & Sashimi Special… First, there wasn't much in terms of presentation, it wasn't much to look at… Second, the preparation of various fish was sub-par, some of the pieces were chewy and were not properly trimmed… Third, the "special roll" was really unappetizing in terms of appearance and also flavor, it's really just a California roll with added Cucumber, topped "spicy crunchy Tuna" which was neither crunchy nor spicy — it was bland and mushy and the fish was stringy and gristly… Fourth, I do not like their Mackerel recipe at all, it is really funky and stinky… Fifth, there just wasn't any flavor or delicacy or distinctiveness to anything, and although I ordered an extra large assortment hoping to snack on it for a couple of hours, I was finished after a few bites, not even interested in finishing the rest — maybe I can pawn it off on a friend?

  3. My company ordered a sushi lunch from Sakura Sushi and was pretty impressed.  They have some amazing lunch specials, which include Miso Soup and a Salad.  The Maki Special allows a choice of 2-3 rolls in addition to these starters.  The Chef's Special Rolls are outrageous mixtures of fish, both inside and on top of the rice.  The delivery was fresh and arrived within 45 minutes.  The rolls were a good size and pretty flavorful.  I would definitely order from here again.

  4. I stopped by for sushi @ 4 p.m. on a Friday night. I was the ONLY one inside, except for the couple that came in minutes after me.

I ordered the "crunchy spicy tuna" maki, the "summer roll", the "dragon roll" & two pieces of eel sushi.

The dragon roll was "eh", and the summer roll wasn't flavorful at all, and they forgot to put the caviar on the top of it. The highlight of my meal was my eel sushi & the spicy tuna. You can really never go wrong with those two choices.

The food was definitely overpriced. At least give me better quality and flavors if you are going to rob me.

The service was decent, as the eye candy was delicious. I guess his date felt a bit uncomfortable with him constantly looking at me, so she stared me down for the rest of the meal.

Next time I'm in the area, I'll think twice about choosing Sakura as my sushi spot.

  5. Service was fast. I had the mild curry chicken. Chicken was tender. Portion was good. The rice was sticky and delicious. Price was very low. Interior was not bad at all. The tea was very unique. My only comment is that if you order the curry, tell them to hold the onions. A curiously large amount of sliced raw onions in the chicken curry. They took credit cards, which was great. I will probably be back as it is close to my apt and was fast and convenient.

  6. An inexpensive Thai & Japanese restaurant just North of Old St. Patrick's Cathedral on Mott Thai was a little too liquid for my taste.  It was nice to go next door for a gelato dessert.
