What a waste! Couldn't get my Yelp app to work so we went in looking for pizza blind. MISTAKE!! The pizza was on par with any mall eatery. Bland sauce, cheese slid right off and to top it off they add the tip to the bill without asking.
Poor form Sal!
We stopped for a slice only – for $10, we scored 2 sausage slices and cans of soda. The slices are plenty large and exactly what I was hoping for from "NY pizza".
The crust was perfectly crisp and chewy, the sauce wasn't too sweet and it wasn't greasy at all meaning they use good cheese. The toppings didn't slide off when I took a bite either.
If you want a sit down meal, Sal's certainly does that but I was plenty happy with my quick slice.
Stopped here after shopping on Broadway for a few hours as my body needed an immediate source of energy that only pizza can provide. The inside was cute and had many photos of who I'm assuming to be the owner and many celebs and well known socialites. We ordered two slices and a can of soda which totaled 10. Not super cheap, but not too expensive either. The pizza was GOOD. The cheese was good but the pepperoni was sooo much better. Good quality cheese. Nice to know theres a spot around the corner for good slices when I'm in the area.
We stopped here for quick slices and talked to the owner a little bit, really nice man! And the slices were regular cheese with toppings added on it which wasn't really special and I could get anywhere.
Pizza was above average, nice and crispy and perfect when we were in a pinch and needed a quick satisfying bite. Chatted with who I believe to be the owner of the place, and overall had a nice lunch experience in a hurry.
Only reviewing PIZZA AND SUB TO GO!
We were looking for an easy street pizza place to give an out-of-towner a NY slice but had a bit of trouble finding such in Soho. But hey, when you're staying a few blocks from Little Italy…why not go there?! (I am a big Lombardis fan but the queue was too long.)
Fortunately Sal's has a few high top tables in the tiny front of the restaurant where you can order at the counter and enjoy a slice or two and a sub. Exactly what we were looking for! If you like Anchovies – Order away! My Anchovy lover friends (how did I pick these people up?) were super pleased.
Their meatball sub was good, extra sauce, nice bread, but I will say a tad on the expensive side. As for my regular cheese slice, I'd say go for that elsewhere.
I'd go back for specialty slices and would definitely try a meal in the restaurant.

On a suggestion from a true New Yorker, I went to Sal's to try their Fried Calzone. The dough was freshly rolled, stuffed with Sausage, Pepperoni, Meatballs, Mozzarella, and Ricotta, and then deep fried until golden brown. (You can have it baked if you are health conscious, not recommended). I ate it in the front section but there is a full service restaurant in the back. I forgot to ask for red sauce which would have made it perfect. The crust was crispy, the inside was flaky. The meat was piping hot but the mozzarella was melted. Overall, a delicious and filling bite to eat.
Had lunch here with my boss yesterday, the area was bustling as the San Gennaro feast was going on outside. The dining room decor is cute, very rustic looking with lots of brick and oil paintings, a tv played Serena Williams shocking loss at the US Open. The service was ver fast and friendly. I had a Sausage and Broccoli Rabe hero and as you can tell from my reviews I am a Rabe fan. Felt the Rabe here was a bit too stemmy and tough to chew and had to take some of it out, could have used more garlic and chii flakes as well, the sausage was cut into disks and was pretty good. Had a decent flavor and I liked how some of the thinner slices got crunchy, like sausage chips! The bread was good and the price wasnt as inflated as the area would make you think.
