Really great Mexican food and drinks. The Chorizo, roast pork, chicken, steak and shrimp tacos were all delicious. Really fresh and not overly done. The chorizo may have been my favorite, but they were all equally good. The condiments came on the side, which was a nice touch. The guacamole was so fresh, We were eating it without the chips it was amazing. We ordered two! My husband ordered a beer and it came out in a frosty mug, it was ice cold, the way a beer should be!! I had the shrimp ajo dish and it was very tasty. My husband had the hanger steak, and he enjoyed it. It was so large he couldn't finish it. The rice and beans were some of the best I had in a while. This place is a great find. I can't wait to come back when I can try the sangria.
I wanted good eats near the movie theater, and Yelp found me one. I really liked the food at Salsa Picante. IMO the portion sizes on some items seemed very small. A "large" veggie taco is 2 tablespoons of sautéed veggies on a mini soft taco–3 delicious bites for $3.75 ($1.25 per bite)! The server was polite and attentive but left items off our meal. We didn't receive the guacamole and ended up canceling it. My friend's chimichangas and my elotes were missing some toppings/sides. If the food wasn't so fresh and tasty, and the restaurant so clean, I'd probably not bother coming back. But I'll try them again next time I'm at the movies in Port Chester and hopefully have a better dine-in experience to update my review with another star.
This is a fairly new place located just off Main Street with very nice employees and good authentic Mexican food. When you walk in just head downstairs and get a table. The prices are really unbeleivable for the quality and the amount of food they give. If you are in the area definitely check it out. Only complaint is it can get a little warm in there and the Storefront does't really open up for much ventilation besides the door. Parking is easy too. There's metered parking in front and a lot across the street. Just be sure to move your car before 1am. The police come around and give out tickets. In the lot you can park all night so if there's a space definitely park there instead.
The chips and guac were amazing to start. We also got a fish bowl of margaritas which was a good size for four people. I ordered the shrimp taco (which had a lot of shrimp in it) and the chicken quesadilla appetizer. Both were amazing, but the quesadilla was big enough for a main course after the chips and guac!
After reading some good reviews I decided to check it out. First of I must say in terms of service, this may be the best Mexican place I have been to. They are out to please and make sure everything is to your liking. The food was very good too but lacked a little spice for my taste the first time I went.
The second time was a weekend lunch. The hot sauce was not spicy enough so I asked our server if they had something hotter. 10 mins goes by and nothing, so I asked again. She said that the kitchen was making something special for me from scratch! Wow, who does that these days?! When I tasted at first I was thinking this isn't hot enough but better, a few seconds later the heat kicks in and you're sweating, damn this was a great sauce. If it was bottled I would buy it.
The presentation of the food is quite good too. All in all I have to say this place is a real winner in the area other than a real dive which can be mostly takeout. And the best thing is that my wife likes it too!
Had dinner here one evening based on all of the good Yelp reviews.
I ordered the Queso Fundido, a side of Guacamole, and the Nachos with Chorizo sausage.
I was served a basket of chips and what I assume is their House salsa. The chips were much thicker than I am accustomed to. Some were good, other tasted stale, and a number of them were inedible. They were stuck together and the texture when one put them in one's mouth was so chewy as to be unpleasant.
The Queso Fundido was bland and very greasy. I ate some of it, but due to the amount of grease, I abandoned it.
I asked for some hot sauce, and received three soufflé cups of three different sauces – one green, two red. The green sauce was rather bland to my palate, but the two reds were outstanding. Both were tasty, hot, and smoky! I completely destroyed the two reds and would have licked the serving cups clean if I thought I could have gotten away with it!
The Guacamole was decent enough. Served in a large Granite looking Molcajete bowl. It could have used some seasoning though. I added some of one of the red sauces into the guacamole to give it some additional flavor.
The Nachos were also to greasy – due to the Chorizo sausage.
I'd come back here again, but perhaps order something else – with either steak or chicken instead.
Service was very good.
