So I have had this place bookmarked for a while now and finally decided to go when one of my fellow foodie friends was craving Korean. So the two of us get there and the place was jammin, there was about a 15 minute wait on a Friday night, so it wasn't too bad. While we waited, we chatted with the owner's son and he was a younger guy but he was very nice, he explained some dishes to try and what he enjoyed eating. For the meal itself, I thought the service was great, the staff was very attentive and always had a smile. The banchan was plentiful and tasty, it was a very respectable spread of bancan. Overall, it was a solid Korean BBQ spot, for me, I liked it but it could have been tweaked. Also, the dry aged refrigerator in the dinning room and the fact that they use charcoal is pretty bad ass.
The food:
Angus Kalbi- Marinated beef ribs Kalbi. This is the first thing on the BBQ section and this is their big seller. The Kalbi had a good mouth feel and the flavors were nice, but I felt the meat coulda been more tender and the sweetness of the Kalbi was a little too much for me. Overall, still a must order. yelp.com/user_local_phot… yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Saeng Deung Shim- USDA Prime Rib-eye steak ribeye. Same thing with the Kalbi, it could have been more tender and since the ribeye isn't marinated, it could have used more flavor. It really just tasted like an unseasoned piece of meat on the grill, even with the condiments and wraps it still tasted like naked steak. yelp.com/user_local_phot… yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Daegu Maewoon Tang- Fresh codfish, vegetable in spicy stew. This was a good choice for soup since there is some heat but I felt the soup needed to be more aggressive in flavor, I felt the soup was watered down. The codfish had nice flavor but sadly was too cooked through, the tofu and kimchi were nice, though. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Easily a 5-Stars experience Korean Barbecue! After craving Korean for the longest, my foodie Sensei bought us there. It was about 8:00 pm (which I would consider a 'late' dinner =P) but still, the place was still lively and a crowd waiting to be seated. I would say that it was about a 15 minutes wait but it goes by quicker when you have good company. The host was very accurate with his promised wait time for our party of two. He was not only very friendly but super upbeat and fun to talk to!
Our dinner started with a table full of banchans: kimchi, spicy marinated squid, mountain vegetables, spinach, potato salad, pickled radish and carrots, japchae, and that soft steamed egg! That soft steamed egg was delicious and pipping hot! I could not help that I burnt my tongue in the middle of enjoying it but make sure you blow on it. Can I have another one please?! I was quite impressed with the charcoal grill, not only because I have never seen this before but it really gives it that perfect charred, burnt ends on the meat that I love. The netted grill is changed when cooking different meats. The sight of the fire cooking through our meat in front of us was making my mouth water!
We started with the marinated Prime Rib-eye Steak. This was a thick piece of meat! I really did not taste too much flavor and I would like it better if it was more tender but it was some good quality meat. Next, we have the Angus Kalbi – A MUST ORDER! Texture was thin, chewy and tender to the extent that I like. The flavors were on the sweet side but I surprising loved it. Since we were unable to finish it, I bought home to for dinner next day – still freakin' DELICIOUS!
To accompany our meal, we ordered a Spicy Codfish Soup. Soup had plenty of vegetables like that thin cut pieces of radish. Radish was cooked until it was see-thought and soft. I felt that the codfish was a little overcooked. This soup would make a great winter keep-me-warm choice. Spicy level was on the safe side but good enough for me to give it a thumbs up.
Overall, this is definitely one of the best Korean barbecue I have ever had. I love the lively atmosphere and laughter from all patrons spending time with their family and friends. I will come back for that pork belly and dry-aged meats!
One of my better experience for the quality of food. They accommodated our large group of 10 and most of us are repeat customers. We had Korean BBQ and I can still remember the food after one month of writing my review. The meat was very fresh and cooked to perfection. I will be back for ALL my Korean BBQ.
BBQ is very pricey now! I don't go out for kbbq too often anymore so maybe everyone's prices are going up, but damn. Almost $50 per serving for dry aged meat…come on now, why would you kbbq dry aged meat. anyway. The more regular stuff is in the 30s per serving which is kind of standard now, I guess. The banchan is good and whatnot. The place sometimes gets super crowded, especially on the weekends or after a funeral. But generally service is good and fas.
A bit random, but they have a pretty sick whiskey selection
Also the jello and fruit section is now gone 🙁
Looooveee my Korean barbeque, especially if it's as authentic as this place!
I came here on a Saturday night with a friend. It should be noted that we were the only non-Koreans, which is a great sign. I felt like I was in Korea. Even though it was busy, we were seated immediately. My friend isn't Korean but speaks the language, so that helped things along. We ordered rib meat (around $30) and shrimp (around $20) for our bbq, and along with them came several smaller plates of Korean treats, like sardines, kimchee, dried veggies, coleslaw, noodles, and more. The adventurer in me really loved taking bites out of each dish and seeing what they each were like. Some I enjoyed, some I didn't care for. The tea is tasteless so pass on that. But you have to try the Korean beer; it's no-frills straight-to-the-point down-and-dirty beer. It went great with our food.
There's a grill in your table and the waitress grills your meat for you like you're a baller. I've always enjoyed grilling my food myself at Korean barbeque restaurants, but this was fun too. It could get a little awkward though, because you're trying to have a conversation and here is this person standing over you for several minutes at a time.
Along with the bill, they bring you a cinnamon drink that we didn't particularly like… was excessively sweet for us. However, the rest of the meal was a trip! Don't forget to try the meat when you come here, and come with a full wallet ready to spend.
Wow has this place gone down the hill. My parents and I have been coming here sporadically over the last 10 years and the quality has seriously decreased over time. The service used to be much better and the food quality was better too. The only thing that has gone up is price. And instead of the salad bar they used to have, they have a big case to show off their new darling – dry aged beef. Case in point – they have a $200 combo dinner for 4 that includes the dry aged beef and a bottle of wine. Doesn't sound like a great deal at all.
Their kalbi is $35 each, which is pretty freaking pricey. The meat was thin and not that tender at all. Overall, don't think it was worth $35. Also they only give you 6-7 banchan, one egg custard, and a small salad. Not worth your money!
Good Korean place in Auburndale area. The little plates at the beginning came with clams, which was different from many other places. We ordered the Jap Chae and Bim Bim Bap in the clay pot. Way too much food for two people, but tasty. Didn't get a chance to order the meats, but judging by the price, I would've spent the money at Picnic Garden.
My family has been going here since it's grand opening and for every birthday, graduation, funeral and holiday we ended up devouring their galbi and side dishes till we were practically walking coma patients. After moving and some economic struggles we haven't gone as often maybe once a year if we were lucky. We decided to go the other day for my younger sis' bday and I will admit:
—the galbi (pricier now) is still as delicious as ever. Well marinated and extremely flavorful and super easy to eat.
—the service is great, the waitress was quick and she cooked the meat efficiently and to a great rare texture before putting it aside for you to eat or wait for it to cook more through. She also portioned it out neatly so everyone at the table got a piece. The lettuce was refilled immediately and if we needed anything she made sure to fetch a runner for us immediately.
—the side dishes were abundant and great to put in a ssam (lettuce wrap). On their own some of them weren't that great though. The kimchi wasn't fermented enough and some were a bit too salty.
The check was about 230$ for 7 people and we had multiple servings of their best galbi and individual dishes as well. Which is pretty fair since galbi goes for a lot. Is it the best galbi joint in flushing? Probably not. Good memories here!
