I came here for my mom's birthday a few weeks ago and my whole family was pretty disappointed.
We ordered:
Appetizer:
Fried calamari – okay, but nothing special
Main dishes:
Paella valenciana – all the seafood here was pretty sad and did not taste fresh. The chicken and sausage was alright.
Porkshop in balsalmic sauce – probably the best dish of the night, with a relatively yummy sauce. However, the porkchop itself didn't taste the most amazing.
Tilapia and shrimp saffron sauce – this was probably the worst dish of the night as the tilapia really tasted like a frozen filet that was heated up and had almost no flavor at all.
Also, oddly, the fried potatoes that came as a side for one of the dishes were soggy and tasted like they were fried with old oil.
Dessert:
Flan – pretty meh and seemed like it had been sitting out for a while.
Service-wise was also pretty mediocre. While generally polite, our waiter didn't seem to care at all about making us feel welcome or selling the dishes. He did not tell us about the specials, and we had to ask him rather aggressively to get any information about dishes at all. The server who refilled our water and our bread, on the other hand, was quite attentive and friendly.
If I were to describe the experience here, it would be that everything felt tired. It's almost like the restaurant has stopped caring about making the quality of the food or the general quality of the experience a positive one. Nothing here was terrible, but would I come back? I don't think so.
The service here is "discriminative" if not racist. The appetizer and side (croquettes and fried plantains are greasy. My main dish (chicken with sauteed mushroom in sherry sauce) was mediocre. The chicken was dry even though it was dranched in sauce. The sherry sauce was overpowering; all you taste is the sherry. Not recommended.
This play sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are ppl saying that food is excellent? Everything was bland and overpriced. We walked away spending 200 on dinner for 4 and I honestly don't really know what we paid for. I DONT recommend it and think that this was a big waste of my time and money. GROSS!
Thank you Spainards for collaborating and deciding to build lovely Sancho's here! What a night saver after the DISASTER that was Yellow Hook Grille a few blocks away. My dear and I came in here and were seated immediately and we quickly unwound from the aggrevation that was completely unnecessary for a weekend.
The 1/2 pitcher of sangria was absolutely delicious to look at with its deep blood red color and just as pleasant and refreshing to the tastebuds. To compliment with the drink, I opted for the Paella Valenciana since it was a while that I haven't had it, and my boyfriend got the Chicken Villeroy that is very similar to a chicken cordon bleu, just without the cheese (which would have made it more moist I think if it had) and ham. Of course the Paella comes out in a collosial cooking pot and I'm such a galvone that I slightly burnt my hand on the handle to get more into my plate.
Beau: That's all YOURS?!
Me: It's not like you haven't seen me eat before.
I did eat; WE did eat; and then…I had some more. Then I stole from his plate. Then I asked to please wrap up my lovely remains and we wobbled outta there like two fattened calves for the slaughter.
I came to this place with my family for my sisters graduation since its pretty local and its spanish style food which were use to.
We entered and the table was set up nicely for the party of 10 and I noticed it was an old style fashion restaurant, kind of out dated compared to other places around the area and it was not that big neither, I seen mostly of an elderly crowd and seen they serve nice lunch specials too.
We started off with appetizers which was fried calamari, shrimp in garlic and potato croquettes. I enjoyed the potato croquettes the best because they were really soft and had a nice flavor to them inside mixed with the potato, the shrimp garlic was good too. Was not crazy about the fried calamari cause I felt they were too greasy and kind of soggy like.
Dinner we enjoyed seafood paella with lobster which was mixed with mussels, chicken, clams and chorizo, chicken in garlic sauce and it comes with side order of fried potato chips and yellow rice. Others ordered also shrimp and steak. The paella is really good actually and you should def. share it with someone cause it comes out in a big hot pot and it can def fill up more than one stomach. I enjoyed that and the chicken came out in small little chicken bone pieces which wasn't bad neither I would of just preferred a half of a roasted chicken style.
They serve sangria and frozen drinks but we kept it PG-13 and just stuck with water and sodas.
I would come back here for the paella and maybe try out there sangria or frozen drinks but its def. more of an elderly crowd and the waiters are actually nice and helpful too.
