Sandro’s Latin Food
“We've ordered delivery several times and my current favorite dish is the arroz con pollo (chicken w/ rice).”
“Also, the dish goes GREAT with a side order of beans (also huge portions).”
“My husband and I both had enough leftovers for another meal (guess what I'm having for lunch tomorrow!).”

The reach of Yelp serving me well again, as I input 'Spanish food' into my search while in Astoria and my screen fills up with options. Three blocks away from my location shows Sandro's Latin Food with high ratings I head on over.
Quite and quite clean inside, I take a table, review my lunch options and occasionally peer over at the television broadcasting the Spanish channel.
Although there is a Monday to Friday lunch special for $6.99 I don't think I will get the best Sandro's has to offer, so I dove into the #8, Llapingacho con Hornado o Carne. Roast Pork with rice, potato patties, two eggs, salad, avocado and rice. Wow, monster dish that is as filling as it was delicious. The meat was tender and so flavorful, add to that flavor profile the cream covered potato patties which were warm and creamy and the cool refreshing flavor of the avocado really took the flavor to a wonderful combination of taste.
I just could not manage to eat the french fries, which after sampling two, were the low light of the days lunch, bland, cold and unappealing. The $2.00 Soda seemed a bit pricey.
I let my trusty Yelp app point the way to Sandro's Latin Food, based on the yelp reviews I had high expectations. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa 2 go, which included
grilled steak, ,Chicharon, rice, beans, sweet plantain, avocado & 2 eggs for $13.99 great deal with generous portions. The Chicharon skin was not crunchy, it was extremely oily, soggy & chewy. Overall the food was ok, it was nothing special, everything actually tasted a little bland. I guess that is why everyone was pouring green sauce all over there food.
HUGE portions that could feed me for 3 meals. It legitimately lives up to the hype in this aspect. In terms of service though, the counter girl / our server appeared kinda absent-minded or if I were to be mean, ditzy – we had to clarify our request twice. Language barrier? We'll never know. In the future I'd probably opt for pickup/delivery than dine-in, tbqh.
Ever sinced I moved to Astoria 6 years ago, I've been looking for a place that serves solid Cuban food. I miss my places back home that charge practically nothing for huge servings of delicious food that last you at least 2 meals. I found Sandro's through Yelp, and though it's not Cuban food, they have Cuban dish staples on the menu, and I couldn't be happier. The beans are perfect, as are the tostones; they are actually almost as good as my mom's, and that's saying a lot. The bistec encebollado is full of flavor and perfectly prepared. I've only had delivery, but each time I've called the service has been nothing but pleasant, as has the delivery guy. If you want a good, Latin style meal, order from this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
The food here is so delicious. Prices are great and you get very large portions. I had a little bit of everyone's meal when we were here on Saturday night.
I'm not sure how or what they cook the white rice in, but it is very tasty! I am usually not a fan of white rice, but their's is soooo good.
Definitely want to try the ceviche next time. The chicken soup here is also delicious. Everything was very flavorful.
Ordered take out for the first time here. Arroz con pollo (chicken w/ rice) came with mixed vegetables in the rice with pieces of chicken mixed in, avocado and sweet plantain for around $10. It was a lot of food, easily two portions worth.
All-in-all food was okay, a little bland for my tastes. May try something else next time and throw some tabasco or sriracha on it!
'Til next time
Delivery! Fast delivery! It was Delicious. After having surgery, walking was not an immediate option. Went to seamless and craving latin food, I came across Sandro's! I ordered empanadas beef and cheese which were hot and well flavored with a crispy shell. The maduros were DELICIOUS! Baked, glazed and naturally sweet.
Entrees : mixed rice Chufa( chicken, beef, hotdog slices ( its a spanish thing) shrimp and veggies. Very flavorful and most importantly, NOT SALTY! Half slice of fresh avocado and side salad comes with it.
The pork chops with white rice, plantains were surprisingly good. Its easy to overcook pork chops but Sandro's nailed it. The beans are on the side and go well with the chops. Tender and juicy would best describe these chops. The portions are generous and the price is right. Definitely a favorite! Wonder if they have dessert…..
Portions are MASSIVE! Awesome prices- about $7 for the arroz con pollo which lasted me for three meals and still had more than enough. Only downside is that they don't give you enough of the green sauce to hold you over. Also pretty oily!
