  1. We came in on a weekday afternoon about a month or so ago. The BF ordered some sliders to go and we sat at the bar and ordered a couple of drinks. Our intention was to grab some quick drinks.

I checked in on Yelp and saw a Check-in Offer for a free shot with check in. That's all it said, no other terms or restrictions. I showed it to the bartender and she said the offer was not valid because we were taking our food to-go. I looked at the offer again and showed her that the offer states a free shot with check in, not with a meal. She just repeated herself and walked away.

Here's the thing: Businesses can clarify their terms on the check in offer. If the terms were not stated, I feel they should honor what is stated or edit the offer ASAP. In the least, she could have been kinder about it. The receipt said her name was Karen. Unless they share tills, Karen is the reason for the one star review.

    P.S.
Four sliders came with the order and they were not good. Four dry patties with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Yes, I would've given them one more star if they had better food, but I can safely say the sliders match their service.

  2. Great Irish breakfast
    Great fish & chips
Bartenders are amazing and often will be there early for a Manchester United game viewing.

  3. So they decided to change their wing recipe. As far as I can tell they no longer use corn starch on them. They're not as crispy as they were before and now get soggy if you want too long to eat them. The wings also seem to be a lower grade than before. They've moved down a notch in my book but they're still great wings for $5. The east west is still my favorite without a doubt.

  4. Not too shabby.

This place definitely gives you the feel of that back in the day of the Irish – all the way down to the waitress and bartenders. The food is pretty good, service is excellent and I very much enjoyed the Scallywag's brew.

Best tip about this place: there is tons of space – if you keep walking to the back you could end up with an entire room all to your group – plus they have plenty of TVs to watch any sports game you're looking for.

  5. Nicely situated only a few blocks from the Javits Center, Scallywag's was a welcome place to eat after a long morning at Comic Con. A few friends and I got situated quickly and prepared for some brunch. They have a pretty sweet deal where they have a free Mimosa, Bellini, or Bloody Mary with any brunch order.
We were all hungry and welcomed nice service and food (generous portions). I ordered the smoked salmon eggs Benedict but everyone else enjoyed sheppards pie and burgers quite nicely. Would come back if I'm in the area. Use the Yelp Check In for a nice bonus!

  6. One of the better dive bars in the area.  Extensive list of beers on tap. Bartender was on her game.  Music was something pop – not too loud.  I will go back.

  7. Great fish and chips. One of the few places I've been where they don't overlook the fish. Perfectly done. Only improvement would be Irish chips but my guess is USDA would have something to say about that. And I don't need need the chips anyways so no problem. Staff efficient and friendly. My server Sara an Irish rose.

  8. Let's be honest there are a lot of Irish bars in NYC and let's also be honest; I've been to most of them. This is the best one, trust me.

Live music every night of the week, good beer selection, great menu with food until 2am and amazing staff; Marcus, John, Sarah – whoever you get will make you feel welcome.

Personal favorites are a solid Irish breakfast with real Irish bacon, authentic British fish 'n chips, chicken tenders and a mean chicken curry. Brunch is especially good value as it comes with a cocktail and its not too much to upgrade to bottomless brunch either.

There is always a few locals at the bar, more than anywhere else I know which speaks volumes for how good this place is given all the options available in the city, even just on 9th Ave. They also have a big room available at the back ideal for private parties.

If you live in the area and haven't checked this place out, go. If you commute via Port Authority and need a beer before the journey, go. If you're a tourist staying nearby, go. Anyone else? GO!
