  1. This is my father's favorite place to eat and to enjoy the view the armory has to offer. Unfortunately, I do not share the same opinion. I will said the environment and scene of the place is very appealing, but the food didn't stand out. Like the name and the vibe of the restaurant, it used to be an armory that was refurbished. It has 3 distinct parts: the outside part is an outside bar like environment, the ground floor is the dining section with window to enjoy the view, and the 1st floor is usually reserved for party or events.

The Shrimp in Garlic: As an appetizer, it was a very nice stater.

Bean Soup: It wasn't all that special, I found it to be a little salty.

Seafood Platter for Two (steam): The crab and lobster seems to be okay, but the shellfish were small and very dry. Also, I have a gut feeling that they precooked the seafood and just dumped it into boiling water for few seconds….suspicious?

Chilean Sea Bass: I will said it was a very big portion, but the fish lacked A LOT of flavor. It pretty much tasted like a sponge that was soaked in hot water, I was very sad, I when took my first bite of it…sigh.

Paelha Marina: It looked very nice, especially with the seafood to the decorated the rice, but the dish had way too much salt. It felt like the they use the water from the ocean to cook the rice and I have feeling they just used the seafood from the seafood platter for two.

Overall, I didn't enjoy the food here and for the price to have this quality was definitely not worth the time or money.

  2. I came here last night after I promised I wouldn't come back here again. Well I guess I just had a really bad experience the first time around. I came here for a small dinner (5 people) and actually enjoyed it!

The waitress last night was very nice and attentive, unlike the one we had last time. Once we sat down, she came right over to serve us. We ordered 2 pitchers of red sangria. The sangria was OK, definitely NOT the best I've ever had, but better than what I had last time. We shared the fried calamari and the shrimp in garlic sauce for appetizers. Both were really good. The fried calamari was lightly battered and  the shrimp was extra garlicky! I ordered one of the specials of the night, Grilled Prawns served with Spanish potatoes and vegetables. The prawns were delicious! The Spanish potatoes and vegetables complimented the dish well, although I wish I had some yellow rice that went with it.

After eating my entrée, I did not have any space left for dessert. My boyfriend ordered the crème brulee which according to him was disappointing.

My experience last night was far better than the one I had last year. Maybe it was because we came here during the week and not the weekend, or because I was seated inside instead of outside. Regardless, I will probably give this place another chance…

  3. Not the best food I've had before … they have large quantities, but for the prices that you pay, I would definitely suggest that you drive about 10-15 minutes further and go to the Ria-Mar instead (yelp.com/biz/ria-mar-sou…).

Their lighting is really dark inside.  Research has shown that this is supposed to make your customers hungrier, but I wasn't feeling hungry if I can barely see my food. The restaurant is sitting on the water so the view is pretty if you get a window seat, but that's one of the few perks about this place.

For appetizers, we ordered the calamari (a must since I love 'em).  They weren't that crispy and they were really thinly-sliced, but generous with the portion.  They also served mediocre bread with butter.  I ordered chicken marsala for my entree that didn't particularly spark my taste buds nor make me want to return for another trip.  I don't remember what my date had, but it wasn't memorable…

We skipped dessert entirely since we were not impressed by the fare or the prices.  Take your guy/gal/family/friends to Ria-Mar instead.  And if you wanted the views, then drive down to the Armory area and sit near the Perth Amboy waterfront with delicious Portuguese tarts & flan from Ria-Mar — perfect date idea!

  4. Came here on a Friday night with my family of four. Very classy looking place. It is the shape of a boat since the dining room goes to a tip almost. As you walk into the dining room, you can see the kitchen, pretty interesting. The service is good. We had Antonio. He kept walking by the table so if we ever needed him we could just call him.

Now the food was amazing. You start off with complementary bread with an flavored oil dip. It was so good, the bread was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. We ordered fried calamari and clam casino for appetizers. The clam casino was super good. If you like bacon, which who doesn't, then you would love this. The taste of bacon was such a complement to the clam. I was not a fan of the fried calamari because I thought it was chewy but the sauce it came with was super amazing. It's like a marina sauce but with different herbs, taste like something they make themselves. Onto the entrees, we had the rodizio, shrimp&rice casserole, and the porterhouse steak. The short rib for the rodizio was really good, it had so much flavor. The shrimp and rice casserole was amazing. Tastes like paella almost but with shrimp. It is served in a little rice pot, definitely enough for two or even three people. The porterhouse steak was cooked to perfection. My father said it was the top five best steaks he's ever had. That's a big statement. It was that good! Also the red sangria was delicious. Better to get the pitcher portions. They get the job done!

  5. I just went here for Mothers' Day and absolutely loved it. It was my first time going, but my parents have been there many times and have constantly raved about their food. I definitely have to agree the everything was fantastic. I was surprised by how long we ended up being there (2pm reservation & didn't leave until after 6pm), but the place was crazy packed for Mothers' Day and they gave you fair warning upon ordering that all entrees would take about an hour to cook. Despite entrees taking a while, they had bread on the table and ordering appetizers did not have the same delay, so you weren't starving at your seat. I had the Octopus Salad and Chorizo as an appetizer, and both were out of this world. Octopus salad is hard enough to find on a menu, but this one was on par with my grandmother's recipe. She was sitting next to me eating it and actually agreed that it was pretty close. I ordered the vegetarian paella and tasted the Branzini and Rodizio that others at my table had ordered. Everything was absolutely delicious.  Vegetables in the paella could've been diced smaller, but the flavor was perfect. The sides that come with the rodizio aren't the greatest, but honestly you pay for the meat that servers are constantly bringing around and slicing at your table. Oh almost forgot the sangria…so amazing! We had a pitcher of red & white to try both & they were both fabulous.  One downfall that annoyed me a little, is that they have a ballroom upstairs from the restaurant where they host various events. There was something going on that day, and the bass was bumping hard. It was totally distracting, but depending on the song you could hear it. Overall, I would still recommend this place & can't wait to make another trip there!

  6. This piece of meat/seafood haven is located right near the waters of the famous perth amboy area.  The area looks sketchy on your way here but don't get discouraged because it is well worth it.
Appetizer was great.  I had crispy calamari, thin sliced sausage perfectly fried.  Had bread with butter.  Would have been better if the bread was warm.
Entree was the rodizio meat special! My favorite was the juicy chicken with crispy skin.  I also enjoyed especially the filet mignon wrapped in crispy bacon.
My favorite out of everything was the unlimited sangria and red wine!  I had at least 4 pitchers of them with my girl.  We were just glad we made it back home that night.  Oh yeah the bathroom was in a secret area.  Its hidden next to the area where the waiters put their orders in.  There's one in the third floor if u wanna decide to take a big #2 in the bathroom.
Service and staff A+.  U can eat outside if its a nice weather and they have a little tiki bar outside.

  7. Our most recent visit was disappointing in several ways:

Only a handful of tables now have a water view–the rest are blocked by the walkway or the expanded dock.

The inside room was very smoky.

Entrees took even longer than the usual long delay to arrive, despite the restaurant being only 1/5th occupied, with no update from the waiter.

My wife requested some green sauce with her entree. It arrived 10 minutes after the entree, accompanied by a 2 extra charge, as if this were Chipotle.

My steak was fine, but the potatoes were cold.

The sangria seemed light on the alcoholic ingredients.

I hope for better next time.

  8. I had a living social voucher for this place, and unfortunately had to go in the dead of winter. I wanted the spring time experience with the view. As I arrived, we were greeted and seated immediately. The atmosphere was more family style; which is not my preference. It was pretty loud with a  quite a few children dining out on a late Friday night. I thought the ambiance would be a bit more mature being that there is a view of the habor.

All Portuguese restaurants seems to have the same spin on food prep. This place is no different. If you had one garlic shrimp dinner you had them all. Potatoes were pretty good, but overall my meal was average.

The highlight of the night was the top shelf sangria. This drink had kick with a nice upgraded flair. The waiter made this  excellent suggestion to pair as my girlfriend and I both had seafood dishes. I was immediately buzzed, and the pitcher is well worth the $ and  experience.  I wanted flavored sangria, but the waiter said it's only available in season (that should be on the menu).
Anyway, I was so nice I wanted to finish up at the bar. I'm upset I wasted  time in the baby dinner room because the bar is where it was at!! The bartender was great! He made great drinks, had great personality, and made anything you wanted  with good suggestions. The people at the bar were having a great time; appeared to be regulars, and very social. The night ended on a much better note. I will definitely return in the summer for drinks and try the tiki bar as well. Overall I can do without dinner. I would stick with drinks and appetizers to soak up the liquor. I give them     3.5 stars.
