  1. It always cracks me up when someone writes a review and faults a place for an underwhelming dish when it's a far cry from their specialty. Granted, if something can't be executed perfectly it probably shouldn't be on the menu but experienced diners should know better. Case in point, I would never consider ordering eggplant parmesan at a steak house. Chances are that it's on the menu to cater to a vegetarian who, in all probability is simply accompanying a carnivorous friend or relative. Steak houses are rarely primary choices to those of us who refrain from eating well…steak.

Steak joints like Sear specialize in steak and it's steak that I'll review. In order to do so, I normally order my reference standard Porterhouse for however many of us there are, in this case four. At Sear the Porterhouse is exceptional. Is it the best Porterhouse I've ever had, no. That distinction rests on Peter Luger in Brooklyn's shoulders as it should. But if you want to stay on this side of the Hudson and are looking for a really great place to eat a delicious steak, you really can't ask for more than Sear. Likewise, drinks were pricey but exceptional.

Decor is modernistic, rustic and quite striking. Menu is varied and high priced as expected. This is really a businessman's hang out or a great place for a special occasion meal. Honestly, if my budget and waist line could handle it, I'd be here daily. In Northern NJ, the steak/chop house crown usually rests on The River Palms stodgy head. IMO, Sear is a far superior choice. Steak is equally as good, if not better and the place is gorgeous. We shall return soon. Really soon as in tonight.

  2. I dined here this evening and found the experience to be pleasant. The service and ambiance were great. They also had some inexpensive bottles of wine available which is always a plus.

For an appetizer, we split the burrata and fig special. The burrata was melt in your mouth perfection. For my entree, I ordered the surf and turf. The lobster tail was one of the absolute best I've ever had. My filet was average; it lacked flavor and could have been softer.

While everyone was pleased with the main courses, the dessert was weak. I had the chocolate lava cake and my willingness to eagerly share it wasn't a good sign.

While I'd be back if someone suggested this restaurant, I'd pass on dessert and probably order something other than filet.

  3. The mighty Sear House Grill! This restaurant was awesome. Special shout-out to Ricky and Leo as they took proper care of my mom's engagement dinner:

DISCLAIMER: This is from the perspective of a large party (about 40) having a rehearsal dinner.

I will start with the process – mom, my lady and I met with Ricky as we were browsing for a restaurant to follow our wedding rehearsal and we came across this restaurant. They also have valet parking for free, so that's pretty cool, considering that the lot isn't that huge. But this restaurant is beautiful – it really portrays the image of an upscale restaurant/bar/lounge in downtown, NYC – right in the middle of Little Falls! Plus, it's nearby the Willowbrook Mall and the stores nearby so that's a plus.

Let's get to the service – they were able to accommodate us – I believe we were about 40 deep and they even rearranged the tables for us in the last minute before everyone was seated. Plus, we had a choice of four areas – one area by the main bar, one private room toward the back of the restaurant the seated about 35 and had a display, and a smaller private room in the back. We ended up choosing their largest room at the center of the restaurant, and it worked! They allowed us to decorate the area a little with candles, rose petals, etc. They really took care of everyone and made sure that we were all enjoying ourselves. I also want to say that they were especially excited that we were a Latino family – apparently they have a lot of fun when Latinos are involved. LOL! The price per plate wasn't bad at all and they charged wine by the bottle and threw in the fountain drinks for free.

The food was excellent. I had the steak – so good! My family had the chicken and they loved it. I believe salmon was out there too – no complaints at all. They did have a pasta and salad course as well. The dessert was really, really good!  I'm kind of kicking myself for not having photos to back this up…

Alright so to close this one out – I really recommend this place on three occasions: 1. A large company/bachelor/rehearsal/birthday dinner not to exceed about 40 people. 2. A romantic dinner for two. And 3. If you want to have a sophisticated time at the bar and get a few drinks and watch the game for happy hour or a Saturday night. This restaurant is great for all of that. Thank you Sear House Grill for making our rehearsal memorable!

  4. Food is always great. The restaurant is pretty and the view of the river is nice as long as it isn't flooding the area. The noise level can get loud. While I love the food and the classic food, including steak that Is Prepared on a level of The Famous Peter Lugar's, the service is usually terrible. You never seem to know who your server is, too many servers no no one taking the lead. The waiter takes your order and someone new brings out each course. The waiter rarely comes back to see how your meal is so if you want your second glass of wine before it is time for dessert ordered it the same time you order your first or save time and just order the bottle and take it home!

  5. Went here Saturday with the family for my birthday dinner. It didn't completely meet my expectations, but overall it was pretty decent.

The atmosphere is phenomenal and the menu is extensive. Our waiter was great, but the food really wasn't where I was hoping it would be. We had the calamari and eggplant rollatini appetizers which were pretty good, but the entrees fell short. My sister-in-law and I had the fillet mignon cuts and I was underwhelmed, especially with the under seasoned mashed potatoes. My boyfriend was also unimpressed with his steak, but my parents both enjoyed their entrees (pappardelle and veal).

Overall, I would go back but skip the steak.

  6. Great Food! The restaurant in a sort of isolated space (it just looked so dark), the cafe bene next to it closed, maybe that's why? Anyway, the place is pretty big! Even for NJ restaurants. We tried the Lamb chops, which was amazing – it came in 4 pieces on sizzling plate! The grilled whole branzino was delicious as well – love the sauce and based dipped everything in it  🙂 For dessert the Apple strudel was perfect – flaky skin with warm pieces of apples in side, and tops it off with vanilla ice cream! YUMMM… The wait staff was attentive, but a couple of them was a bit awkward – can't pen pt exactly why, it was just a bit awkward (like it was their first day on the job). I would def go back, I think the branzino is already calling my name 🙂

  7. We had always enjoyed coming to Bellismo the previous restaurant at this location. If you're familiar with Bellismo then really all that's changed is the menu. Same valet parking, overly attentive servers, bar, interior, etc. We checked out the place on a Friday night and enjoyed some oysters and shrimp cocktail. Both were nice and cold, the shrimp not overcooked, and the oysters still contained their liquor. There was some bread on the table before our appetizers arrived but before we had a piece one of the servers took it back away. They also took away our complimentary cheese and olives, but they did leave us with the dry and lifeless breadsticks that adorn each table as a centerpiece.

For entrees I had the 8oz filet cooked rare as requested. The meat was very good with a nice dry aged flavor. My girlfriend had the veal piccata which tasted very good as well. We ordered a side of a creamed spinach and when it arrived I smelled tobacco smoke and assumed someone must of stepped outside for a cigar but quickly realized after the 1st bite that what smelled like an ashtray was the spinach. I'm not sure how that could be; does the chef smoke while he cooks and did he drop a cigarette in our food? The steak was good enough to warrant a return but that spinach….bleh I get sick thinking about it.

We had a slice of key lime pie before we left which was pretty good. You would think a place that seems to pride itself on service would've comp'ed us the spinach and it's replacement side, dessert, and or a drink? No chance, we paid for everything. I'm not sure if I will return to give them another chance which is a shame because we used to go to Bellismo for birthdays and other celebratory dinners… Normally I'd throw some salt in the wound and return but no one even apologized in any shape or form for the "ash tray creamed spinach".

  8. My wife and I had a special event to celebrate and decided to give a new try at Sear grill for the occasion. The anniversary of  our wedding.
We arrived around 6 pm, and were taken to a nice table in the main dining room, by the maître D'  Leo. Our waiter Manny, knew how to attend to guests, we ordered Italian long skinny hot pepper to start, then 8 Oz filet  mignon and sirloin steak, with skinny fries and creamed spinach. Manny  made sure when to check on us, when to send the next course so we all ate my wife and I at  the same time, and especially made sure  the steaks were prepared as asked. We both enjoyed all these well prepared dishes, in this nicely decorated restaurant. The hot peppers were delicious, and the steaks done to perfection! Then we had tiramisu which was a delight to the palate, and very generous. So I guess they have a new chef or  the actual one was on leave the time we came before, and were unlucky. Or  maybe he is now really paying attention to his cooking. Anyway they have redeemed this place with the food. Hope they keep it that way because it was EXCELLENT. The quality of their steaks reminded me of Bern's Steak House in Tampa, which  is the bench mark place for steaks in Florida and where the who's who in food and else goes to.
Definitely will be back for another great occasion.
