  1. This is a small Colombian restaurant in the East Village with just a few tables and a bar. The menu contains several arepas options and entrees. The entrees are in the $20-30 category, but I enjoyed an arepa in the afternoon that was sufficiently filling for me. I chose the pork arepas with beans and rice, the more hefty of the options. It was delicious. The service was very friendly and constantly attentive. The restaurant is upscale and contemporary, and an excellent choice for Colombian in the city in a nice atmosphere.

  2. Came here for brunch a while ago and I am IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE!!! I'm serious this is one of the best latin american food places I've ever been to and prices were great. Small place but great outdoor seating for when it is warm. Super friendly staff and great menu. I had the TO-DIE-FOR plantains. YOU MUST GET THIS! You will give up your gods for this devilishly good dish. So creamy. So flavorful. So rich you'd turn your pockets inside out and order another. Entree sizes were super generous. I had the combination platter and it was a great mix of everything. All you can drink brunch cocktails too. Tried every single one of them and they were all fantastic. Great mix of flavors with the natural taste of the liquor still coming through. Such a great deal! One of the best meals I had in a while and you can bet that I food coma-ed real hard after this and gained 5 lbs. But it was totally worth it and I'd do it every Sunday if I could.

  3. I LOVE SECARA!

I came here recently with my cousin who is 10. She loves rice and beans and was staying in the area so I quickly Yelp'd something and came across Secara. I made a reservation but for 6:30PM on a Thursday it was totally unnecessary. Both the host and our waiter were super sweet and accommodating. There are two floors but we opted to sit upstairs so we could look outside (I think the windows open but it was raining when we visited so they were closed). The music was a tad too loud but nothing we couldn't talk over.

They were participating in restaurant week but since my cousin is on the picky side, we decided to order off the regular menu. We started with some tostones that were delicious, and an order of fries since the little one loves fries (what kid doesn't?). For my entree I had the chicken arepa which was overflowing with moist and flavorful chicken. Little one had rice and beans that she devoured in a matter of minutes.

When we finished our food, the manager came over and said they were going to give us dessert on the house since we had never been there before and my cousin was visiting from Florida. The staff came out with an order of mango-flavored flan with a birthday candle. The flan was some of the best I've ever had and the gesture was oh so sweet. The bill came out to almost nothing since I had to be a responsible adult and abstain from alcohol for the evening. We saw the manager again outside and he invited us back for brunch one day (which I've heard great things about). Then we chatted for a few more minutes before continuing on our way.

This is truly a gem in this area of Manhattan.
