Most nights, I enjoy going home and making a nice healthy and / or hearty dinner for myself. I have so many work days in which I look forward TO going home just to cook dinner! However, there are nights when I'm so bogged down in work, the idea of even stopping at C-Town to pick up an avocado seems laborious.
Enter Semsom!
I had the pleasure of going to a Yelp Elite Event at their 2 Astor Place location last summer, and I was so pleased with their offerings! As I commute through Columbus Circle three times a week, I've been eyeing Semsom's impending opening; it didn't open as soon as Turnstyle had its grand opening last April. Last night, I was at that point where making dinner wasn't about to happen when I got home, so I finally swung by. In the vein of the most popular fast-causal restaurants, it's got your typical "pick your base / protein / extras" workflow. I opted for "half and half" (romaine lettuce and turmeric rice), turmeric chicken, minted yogurt, tahini carrots, and an extra squirt of tahini sauce to finish it all of. Even after 30 minutes on the A Train, it was still delicious upon arriving in Inwood! I'm a huge fan of turmeric and incorporate it into a lot of my more savory dishes; I even have a bottle of turmeric powder from Semsom in my kitchen! Their turmeric chicken is defintely on the money. Everything else was delicious, though I think I would have opted for some hummus, in hindsight. Oh well. Next time!
Turnstyle has many amazing options, but Semsom makes for a hearty, healthy, and wonderful post-work dinner option, absolutely! It helps that its on my commute home most nights… 🙂
I love that TurnStyle has a mediterranean option. Decided to try it because I love Lebanese/mediterranean food and liked that their style was similar to the IndiKitch menu (Chipotle style food). Really friendly service. I ordered two half half (half rice and half lettuce) bowls. One with taouk chicken, hummus, pickled cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers and mint with tahini sauce. The other was with baked meatballs, tahini carrots, mint yogurt, tomatoes, cucumber and mint. It's nice that they let you pick the unlmited veggies of tomatoes, cucumber and mint at the end. Really adds to a filling and healthy meal. Food wasnt bad at all. Chicken was hit or miss depending on the piece you get. Some were dry and others were tender. The meatballs were good but make sure you ask them to drizzle a lot of the sauce that comes with it so it isn't dry.
