I always get their roti canai! They have really good hainan chicken over rice as well as pad Thai. Their food is slightly greasy in my opinion but it never fails to hit the spot when I'm craving hainan chicken!
Service is good, but depth of flavor was lacking. Cheap spot compared to other Malaysian places, but you get what you pay for.
Ordered the brisket egg noodles and the noodles was cooked a little undercooked. The brisket meat were mostly tendon and fat meat, not much meat you can actually chew or swallow.
The broth was super thick and spicy though, but lacked a little flavor.
We came to Sentosa after we found PappaRich across the street packed and we were beyond disappointed; I really would've rather waited an hour for PappaRich instead.
I've been a customer for Nyona in Chinatown since I was a kid and have had a lot of Malaysian dishes. I might be bias to Nyona and might not have the finest pallet, but the food here was not even close to acceptable. The Roti Canai was doughy to the point that we thought it was raw. The Curry Laksa lacked curry and sweet coconut flavor; all I tasted was spicy chili oil. The Thai Shrimp Cakes tasted like dough with hardly any shrimp flavor.
Service was acceptable. But I would never return to Sentosa.
Very mediocre Malaysian place. I would give it 2.5 stars. The restaurant was pretty empty when I went on Saturday during lunch, so service was fast and food came out in a timely manner.
As an appetizer we ordered the Roti Canai which was way too airy and not dense enough. I like Roti Canai with a good mixture of the light crispy part and the more bready doughy part. This only had the light crispy part which made the whole thing unsatisfying.
I ordered the Sizzling Tofu (鐵板自制豆腐) based on a review that said it was amazing. Unfortunately it was not. The tofu was way too salty. I normally love shiitake mushrooms, but I disliked the shiitake mushrooms in this dish. It gave the pork based sauce an unpleasant texture. The tofu also seemed over-fried with an unappealing texture.
The people I went with seemed to enjoy what they ordered. One person ordered a Beef Rendang, another ordered the Curry Beef Stew Noodle, and another ordered this lunch special of shrimp in what looks like onions and a sweet red sauce. I didn't taste any of what they ordered but the Beef Rendang and Curry Beef Stew Noodle looked pretty appetizing. The lunch special barely had any shrimp.
My friend also ordered a lychee drink on the menu. It was literally a glass of iced water with lychee in it. We didn't get charged for it but that's hilarious that it's even on their menu. I would like to come back to try more of their dishes since prices are cheap. I probably just ordered the wrong dishes.
I went here last week and sadly have to report the quality of food has declined. We were completely disappointed in the roti canai. Our roti canai dry and rubbery. Roti canai is suppose to be flaky and fluffy. I am not sure if the ingredients are fresh anymore. The curry chicken sauce was good.
Our pineapple fried rice was all right, but the final nail to the coffin was the sad state of the
chow keuh teow! The stir noodles were dry and had a funny, "old" taste to them. They weren't moist and flavorful like I remembered them to be here. We ordered cendol which was good. I would keep to the desserts and stay away from the appts and entrees.
Came here on a Friday evening around 8ish closer to 9 at the suggestion of a friend.
I dont often eat malayisan so I can't say what is good and what not but I'm sure this isn't it. I ordered the prawn mee since yelpers seem to recommend this one and it had photos to see what it will look like. I've asked for spicy if possible.
My friend ordered the same thing and we order one roti to share (as recommended as well).
The roti came and the roti itself was displayed nicely but it was VERY thin, like unusually thin, like paper-mache? and it broke into pieces, making it hard to eat or share. The sauce was okay…nothing to glamour about or desire. It was good the first bite, not delicious and then it got mediocre.
My prawn mee came pretty quickly…we ordered…i went to wash my hands and my friend did right after me and the food came, its a little fishy how quickly it arrive. And maybe it was cause they were about to close or something but my broth was warm and i know its warm because its freezing outside and if it was piping hot like out of the pot hot…you would know…and this wasnt it.
My prawn mee looked sad…the shrimp was cooked but almost overdone if the soup was hot. The broth had flavor but it tasted watered down with a hint of curry. The noodle coulda been cooked a little longer.
All i have to say…this tasted like garbage but better. I am now questioning if my order was someone's mistake and they didnt wanna toss it and figure someone else will eventually order it.
Not coming back…ever
First time I went here was actually a couple of years ago when I was in high school. The atmosphere of this restaurant is pretty cool, from there wooden tables and chairs to there dark walls with these cool wooden carvings on them I think it's a unique twist that's different from other restaurants.
The food to me here is okay, it doesn't blow your socks off but it'll get the job done if you're craving Malaysian food. The Roti Canai was a little too thin for my liking, every time I'd try and fold it it would just flake into many pieces. The curry that comes with it is pretty good, very aromatic and there's a wedge of potato and chicken stewing in there to give it more flavor. The Hainanese chicken was also pretty good but I feel like I could've gotten it anywhere else, just a regular seasoned braised chicken with soy sauce on top. What stood out to me the most was their rice, it was fragrant, a little salty, fluffy….oh man just give me a tub of that and i'lll be set.
The service here is nice, food came out fast and the waiters are very polite to you. I think if you're trying to find a restaurant that sells quality Malaysian food, there are other choices around Flushing that'll probably be better than this one. Still, this place is worth a try, they have a large menu filled with many interesting choices so if you're stuck on where to eat around the area, pay this place a visit.
I've been a regular here since foreverrrrr and I still come here!! The service is good and attentive, everyone is really friendly.
The food is usually consistently good and here is what I would recommend:
Prawn Mee- The broth is very yummy and the noodles are made well!
Roti- It's not your regular thick kind of bread, but it's rather very thin. The bread has some crunchy parts and some soft parts and it's great! The sauce for it though did seem a bit blander than it was back then…but maybe it was an off day.
Hainanese Chicken with the Hainanese rice- This is my favorite one! Although I've had better Hainanese chicken, but this is not bad! I really like the rice.
Chicken/Beef Satay- Taste like your regular satay but in a good way!
Hokkien mee- I love it!
Thai iced tea- Always super yummy.
Overall, very good place to eat in Flushing! Definitely recommend it.
