Serendipity 3

“Oh My Gah to the one and only dessert I have tried here: the frozen hot chocolate!”

“However, the best, and I will repeat, THE BEST SUNDAE EVER, would have to be what I had – the Forbidden Broadway Sundae.”

“The frrrozen hot chocolate does not disappoint and was definitely worth the 1.5 hour wait!!”

  1. One of the biggest tourist food spots in NYC.

Make a reservation to save the headache of having to wait. They get really busy and lines are all day.

They have a good amount of seating inside but it is really tight. The decor is nice and very fancy.

Service was good. Menu has basic food but is super touristy overpriced.

Cheddarburger w/ Sauteed Onions – $16.95 + $2 – Nothing special burger. It was good but does not warrant the price.

Frrrozen Hot Mint Chocolate – $11.50 – Like drinking a thin mint. Tasty and great dessert to share.

Worth a try once, but I would never crave this.

  2. Worst $15 spent on a dessert. Not dessertS, A dessert. I got the chocolate sundae and mind you they come in one size. The cup was as big as my face. I just wish they had a smaller size available. On to the actual quality of the sundae, it was way too sweet. When the sundae arrived, it was already melting and dripping out of the cup. My friend got the frozen hot chocolate and it was just downright water with chocolate syrup! It was watery and bland. I wouldn't recommend this place for what's on their "popular" list.

  3. Cane here on a spontaneous date night with my BF. It was a Friday night and I got out of work. It was a nice surprise to get picked up instead of taking that horrid train back home.

Anyway, we got here and the line wasn't out the door like the last time I was there. It was a 20 min wait. So we left and hit up Dylan's down the block. We got back in time for them to call us to be seated. Great timing!

We were seated upstairs next to the iconic fireplace like in the movie "Serendipity". It was nice. We had a fantastic server. He was older and really knew everything. Not only was he friendly, he was informative, attentive, funny and energetic.

    This is what we ordered:
    – App – nacho topped with cheese and jalapeños
    – side salads
    – meatloaf with mushrooms and mash
    – burger w american cheese and bacon
    – dessert – frozen hot chocolate, if course

Everything was fantastic!  During dessert, the server insisted that he take a picture if us because of where we were sitting. He showed us a still from the movie "Serendipity" and said it would be a great pic. So we did lol.

Also, to top that night off, Executive Chef Alex Guarnaschelli was dining right behind me!!!!  As she stood up and left, she and I locked eyes, but I didnt want to be one of those people who freak out when they see a celebrity. So i kept my cool and smiled and waved. Huge fan, and been to her restaurants.

I do recommend coming here at least once to say you've been there.  Definitely try the frozen hot chocolate

  4. Serendipity is a really fun and unique restaurant. The staff are great, the decor is wonderful and the food is excellent. It is absolutely worth visiting and waiting in line for – although tonight we went in at 11.30 pm so there was no wait for once.

I was a little disappointed with my frozen hot chocolate which in the past has been phenomenal. However, tonight it wasn't blended well and had thick chunks of ice. The cream was also thrown on with no thought. Usually it's a masterpiece. Still, everyone is entitled to one slightly off night, so I forgive them, and will definitely be back.

  5. I absolutely love Serendipity!

It has been a while since being here. Luckily we went at 4pm so the wait wasn't too bad, I think 30-40 minutes. We ordered the frozen hot chocolate, fries, and a scoop of pistachio ice cream. So their speciality is the frozen hot chocolate, and this was my first time trying this drink but to me it just tasted watery… I wasn't very impressed with it. But I LOVE the fries! Also I asked them if I could get one scoop of pistachio ice cream and they made a special one for me. I paid $4.50 and it was huge!!! It was 3x the normal size of a one-scoop sundae! The pistachio ice cream was sooo tasty, yummy!

Love the desserts here. The only thing that weirds me out about the place is the weird tacky decor! My first time being upstairs there was this CREEPY mirror and weird disco ball in the corner of the room. Also downstairs there was this weird chair on the ceiling that reminded me of the Ring, ughhhh creepy! Not a big fan of the decor lol. And I wouldn't go back for the frozen hot chocolate, but will be back for other things here!

  6. For all those Serendipity movie lovers, this is a must visit spot when in New York.

We stopped by after an early dinner around 7. There was maybe a 30 minute wait, which ended up being much shorter than expected. We didn't get seated at the Serendipity table, unfortunately (the wait for that is pretty outrageous) but it was still a cool experience ordering the famous frozen hot chocolate.

There is a $10 minimum per person, so we ordered a $15 frozen hot chocolate and I ordered a Caffe Tiffany, because, well, why the hell not?

    SERVICE:
The host and our server treated us very kindly and took good care of us, although they were sometimes a little scarce. Regardless, we did get everything we needed and they were all very nice. However, service was a tad slow. I guess they assumed since we weren't ordering real food (just dessert) that there was no need to rush.

    DRINKS:
Frozen Hot Chocolate – overpriced but the dessert is enormous. It's literally just a large whip cream coated chocolate milkshake/ice cream. Nothing special in particular.
Caffe Tiffany – literally just espresso, whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. The description made it sound fancier, but nope. I'm not sure how many shots of espresso they poured in the drink coined the same name as me, but I was up pretty late that night.

It's a pricey dessert but a price to pay for a special experience. Although the drinks weren't anything special, I can't say I regret enjoying a beverage or two in this unique venue.

  7. Serendipity is in the 'sweetest' part of Manhattan where Dylan's Candy Shop, Sprinkles, and the outside cupcake ATM are located. I've heard about the hour waits, but somehow we waited only 10 minutes on a Friday night. Luck?

We ordered the 2 best desserts- Frozen hot chocolate and Coward's size Banana Split (I do not know who in their right minds would order the regular size). Frozen hot chocolate was basically chocolate water with crushed ice. I do not recommend. The banana split on the other hand, I would totally recommend. It's a sugar mountain with 3 flavors of ice cream- chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, banana nuts, chocolate powder, glazed with chocolate syrup and finished with whip cream and a cherry on top, and a banana somewhere inside.

Expect the your life expectancy to drop several years. Too sweet, and WAY too much especially for a coward's size. The restrooms are rather interesting with a pulldown flush handle in midair. Note $9 minimum order per person.

  8. Came here with a few friends for a late night snack.  And even an hour before they close the still was a line out the door!  We didn't end up waiting too long (within the 20 minutes we were advised). When we put our names down on the list they said it would be a dessert only reservation because their kitchen will be closing at 12 (they close at 1am).  When we were seated the waitress came and took our order which didn't take long to arrive.  Their specialty is the Frozen Hot Chocolate.  And it's a must try!!!  Also had the chocolate cake with ice cream which was so filling.  They started cleaning and getting everyone out the door by 1.  But overall a great environment for drinks and catching up with old friends.  I definitely want to try the food menu next time.  The names make it sound so good!
