  1. This is my third visit here.  Obviously the food is good because I'm back and want to share the goodness with others.  Previous experiences have been good, this time with 7 people on a Saturday night not as much.

Had to wait much too long for making a reservation a week ahead and then too much time in between courses.  I don't mind a wait, in fact appreciate a no rush attitude, but we were there over three hours.

The actual waiting area is small and with all the people waiting we were in the way of the waiters running from room to room, but it was much too cold to stand outdoors.

    Back to food…

I had the fennel salad which is delicious, and penne pasta.  Passed up the specials even though they were plenty.  My favorite time of year here is Fall as they have a stuffed pumpkin appetizer that is wonderful.

The food was "good", but they were definitely overbooked and a bit too busy.  I would avoid a large table on a Saturday night going forward.

No one "raved" about their meal, they just said it was good.  We ordered the blue velvet cake for dessert and it looked like a smurf pooped in it.  Just a piece of cake full of blue dye.  yuck.

The ambiance is unique, that's for sure.  With leaves stapled and corks glued to every blank spot including he bathroom walls.  Makes me think it was a cheap way to cover up the stains on the ceiling and the cracks in the walls.

A little disappointed but I'll give it another try during the week when it's less crowded.

  2. Great food, great serivice.

  3. I neglected to write a review about this place when I went on NYE.

First off, it was NYE and the line to get in was wrapped around the place (I later found out why). My boyfriend and I had a reservation and I was surprised to find our table READY TO GO in the midst of the chaos (which I enjoyed- ITS NYE!)

The food was delectable. My boyfriends veal (special) was to-die-for and I had the fish special which was extremely tasty, a little over cooked to my taste but honestly, I'm being nit picky… The flavor was absolutely perfect, proving its authenticity. Fish isn't easy to please coming from a first generation American Italian. Sergio's proves to stand out from the crowd of Italian places I've been too. It's fish was certainly unlike other "Italian restaurants" (if that's what you want to call them) I've come across where the fish is just drowning in butter (NO THANK YOU!) With my parents straight from Italy, 4 stars on my first visit is impressive!

The service was incredible. The place was absolutely SLAMMED and the waiters were all ON POINT. I have to say- I was also impressed with the ambiance of the restaurant. The location is VERY deceiving. It's certainly not a bad area, but it is right around/located within the major strips of Lodi so the charming and detailed decor when you walk in, is a pleasant surprise.

I live in hasbrouck heights and I'm glad they popped up on my feed so I could review them and keep the location in mind. It's always incredibly awesome to find an authentic Italian place right around the block from where you live. HOWEVER this place is worth the drive if you are not local. It's one of a kind.

I plan to go back on standard week or weekend day (a non holiday) to update my review… I have a funny feeling this place truly deserves 5 stars and once they show me their consistency in food quality, taste, and service, I'd easily update it to the 5 stars review.

    Bravo Sergio's. Bellissimo ristorante!

  4. My husband came across Sergio's Mission a couple of weeks back, right here on yelp! After reading some reviews, we decided to give it a try.  He called earlier in the week, and didn't have any issue making a reservation for Saturday night.  We arrived promptly at 7:30.  When we walked in, we were greeted by the coat check girl and her daughter? Interesting, it seems as though she may not have been able to find a babysitter so she brought her daughter with her.  After a few minutes a man, came up to us, took our name, checked his book and told us to sit tight for a few minutes as they were preparing our table.  Twenty minutes later, he came back and told us that our table was ready.  He apologized for the wait, opened our wine and went on his merry way.  Before I go into service and food, may I mention the decor. Oy! The tacky fake foliage and christmas lights, need to go!! Oh and all the creepy statues and paintings on the wall, what theme exactly are you going for?

Moving right along. We sat at our seats for a good twenty minutes, watched server after server walk past us, food in hand, checks in hand, water in hand, yet no one stopped at our table. Finally, we made eye contact with the Hostess Man (who clearly seamed overwhelmed), we told him we needed water and perhaps menus. He sent someone over, who rattled off about 10 apps and 10 dinner options.  We discussed and put in our orders.  We ordered a mixture of things.  The stuffed artichoke app and the snails, very delicious, as were our meals! Both my husband and I got a pata and seafood dish.

Here are my issues. We walked into Sergios at 7:30pm and DID NOT WALK OUT UNTIL 10:00pm!!!!!! 2 1/2 hours for a meal, is completely unacceptable!!!! Now, don't get me wrong, these servers were hustling!!! I think it is more of a management issue! There was a private party room that had a 50th birthday celebration going on, and there was a dinner party upstairs of at least 20 people, on top of a restaurant full of patrons!!  Oh, and the straw that broke the camels back, the hostess man (who could use a class or two on restaurant management and professionalism), asked the table next to us, who had 6 people sitting at it, to leave!!!!!!!!!! He came up to them about 35 seconds after they paid their bill and said "I'm sorry guys, I have a few people who have been waiting quite some time, I do hope you enjoyed your dinner" Forcing them to leave, so that he could seat, a couple, yes two people, who he clearly knew because a few minutes later he was sitting, yes sitting with them!!! How rude, and unprofessional!!!!!!!!! Here's a thought, don't over book yourself!!! Hire more kitchen help, you just had a table of 7 wait 3 hours for their meal, and then you go and kick them out?!

All in all, the food was good, everything else, needs some help!

  5. Another excellent meal. Stuffed artichoke, short ribs with mole sauce, white chocolate pudding! Awesome!!!

  6. I love the Sergio's in Clifton and usually go there, but we opted for the Lodi location this time. It's pretty much the exact same, just bigger. They always have a longggggg list of specials that the waiter rattles off. You can always find me ordering off of that list. I recently tried their flat homemade noodle dish with crab meat and pink sauce-delicious! Service is always great and the atmopsehre is warm and cozy. Lots of reds and golds.

  7. This place is consistently outstanding! Although the menu is great the specials are what you come for. They have about 15-20 app and entree specials all the time and just when you think you heard the one you want, the next is even better. Oh and did I mention it's a BYO??! +1!

This past Sat I had the Calamari alla Toscana which is fried with hot cherry peppers and garlic in a white wine sauce. Not overwhelmingly hot, just a great kick and to die for. For entree I went with the pork osso buco special with gnocchi. It was a huge portion for only $29!  The meat was super tender simmered in a luscious, deep sauce with hints of cinnamon. I was so incredibly happy with my choice. I hope Sergio keeps this as a regular entree.

  8. I live in North Jersey, good Italian food is not hard to find. I was here with my family and we had a 7:30 reservation. We arrived on time but did not get seated for at least 15-20 minutes. The waiter came over and brought us bread and some water and opened our wine and then never came back for at least 30 minutes… is this some kind of Italian thing? I got stuff to do here, lets go.

After reading off their list of about 30 specials they offer i barely could remember half of them and i placed my order. The food took a very long time to come out and i felt like i was melting into my seat.

The food was good. I think the menu options were great and everything was cooked perfectly. But the experience itself drops it a few stars in my book. I'll be nice and put 3 though.

I don't know if i would come back here considering all the places for great Italian food around the area, this place is a bit pricey and i should have brought an over-night bag because i didn't know dinner would take almost 3 hours but it was good.

If i can offer a tip or two,

Have someone type up the specials for the day, not everyone can remember 30 specials and it probably will take 2 minutes to print a copy for each table.

Speed up the service a bit, i know it was a busy night but it took extremely long for everything.

Food was good. keep up the good work
