HH until 8! This includes $6 house wines and lychee martinis. Their food is pretty good. It's great for when you're not that hungry, but you just want a snack because you can order as much or as little as you want. Skewers and sliders are $3, or you can pick one of the sets, which has some sort of combination of the two. Will definitely be back for more skewers and happy hour!
Following a bunch of foodies on Instagram makes it easy to find new spots to try. I was sold on a photo of tacos with a caption that they were offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at SET so off we went.
There were four of us and we ordered the cajun waffle fries, six sliders and nine tacos total to split. The cajun waffle fries came out first — these were nice and crisp but I did not taste any cajun seasoning whatsoever. A lot of the fries were also stuck together which made it hard to share without going at it with two hands to pull every other one apart. Gr.
Of the 6 sliders, I tried the pork belly and the lemongrass chicken. The pork belly was pretty fatty and it was a rather small piece. The lemongrass chicken was nice and tender though. My main problem with the sliders was the bun — it tasted stale.
The tacos came out last — I had ordered the tempura fish and tempura shrimp. These were not very memorable either. The 'soft' taco shell was kind of hard and tough. The fish was not crisp. The corn, avocado, scallions and green sauce did give it good flavor though. The tempura shrimp was better–it was glazed in a delicious honey mayo. However, the shrimp was just lukewarm.
Good to try but I do not anticipate a return trip.
We came here on a Sunday afternoon to watch the euro cup. It was half empty and they had two TVs. The food was surprisingly decent. We ordered the kalbi sliders and waffle fries. The Cajun waffle fries with the sauce is quite addictive — and I normally don't even like fries. The kalbi sliders were awesome: it had fatty beef with pickled radish and carrots (similar to the Vietnam kind). Overall, I will come back for a spacious place to chill with friends and decent sliders and fries.
When I say I had some of the best mini burgers EVER here…I ain't lying gurl! And I wasn't even drunk! But seriously I found my new favorite place for drunchies! Amazing Crispy tator tots and the sliders really were just all too juicy and flavorful. Good bar set up and location. WARNING: they have a 20$ minimum on cards so if you are dropping in for just one drink and don't have cash, maybe go elsewhere. Otherwise great place to chat, watch the game, and get some bomb snacks.
This place deserves each star for the following:
1. Service (we had a minor hiccup and waited very long for the tacos but the other food and the drinks were so good we didn't mind being patient)
2. Staff's hospitality
3. Food
4. Drinks
5. Price (including the happy hour deals)
My friend chose this place to take me to for my birthday (idk times are changing I thought the birthday person usually does this, but I was satisfied either way). Let me warn you guys, there's a Grade B on the door but I was like "it looks clean to me" lol! Upon entry the staff was pleasant. I immediately went to the bar and met the bartender Fernando. He was really the star of the night. After asking for ID (because you know I look 12 or whatever) he then proceeded to do what he does best and make me feel right at home.
In the midst of so much bad news within the human race I was drained. Emotionally. I needed some good company, some good food, some good drinks. Set L.E.S did it for me. I try not to be so serious in life but when shit gets real it always hit you hard and so unexpectedly that sometimes you just want to feel the love from strangers. You want to be in an atmosphere where you know no one is caring about race, sex, age, religion and there's no discrimination (I know I got deep today), but Set really made me feel loved and comfortable in my own skin.
Ok forreal though you know I kept raving about New Orleans food right? So SET also serves you their Cajun Charbroiled oysters during happy hour for $1.50 and their raw oysters for $1.00. Let's just said I had about 18 of them (12 charbroiled 6 raw) and I was literally in HEAVEN! The Charbroiled oysters brought me back to NoLa days and the raw oysters were HUGE! I thought I was being breast fed (too graphic? sorry). I listened to sweet ol' Fernando and ordered the salt and pepper jalapeno wings. The jalapenos are sautéed and is a perfect match for the wings so MAKE SURE YOU EAT THEM TOGETHER, I promise you… you'll love it. I also had a shrimp taco…you know they say seafood is an aphrodisiac right? I set myself up terribly for that.
Along with the seafood I had some shots on the house because Fernando was in the birthday spirit with me. He served my friend and I lychee shots and he gave me a coco shot before my friend arrived. AMAZING! I definitely can do the coco shots all day the lychee were quite sweet. However, I did have two lychee martinis and OMG addictive.
So to sum this essay up, this place is great! Perfect for after work or even late night fun! Right by the Williamsburg bridge (for the ppl. who love a long stroll after dinner) and it's still on "hidden gem" status. Don't even let the word get out there b/c we know how much we hate when a hidden gem is no longer hidden and isn't even a gem anymore. Keep it a secret guys! Lol.
Oh it was super loud and lively at Set L.E.S. We made a last minute reservation and glad we did the place was packed at 8pm on Sat. Night. we sampled quite a bit of the menu, We loved the cheeseburger jalapeño spring rolls. Mixed and matched the sliders The salt and pepper fried chicken slider was incredible. The Kalbi slider didn't dissapoint. I'd skip the pork belly skewers, they were tasty but not crispy enough. The Thai chili wings are full of dipped in flavor and yummy. It's a really small place with about dozen or so open tables. Wished they had more craft beer choices. Above average munchies and decent service makes this A ok in my book.
Came here for taco Tuesday. $12 for 3 so we ordered the Bulgogi Cheesesteak, Tempura Fish and Tempura Shrimp. I liked the shrimp and the bulgogi cheesesteak. The tempura fish was a disappointment. Also ordered the raw blue point oysters and the cajun charbroiled oysters. The raw ones did not taste fresh and too warm. the charbroiled oysters were good but I wasn't a fan. Ordered the tangy soy garlic wings. Why were they spicy? Wanted the tater tots but they didn't have it. When we paid, they took our cards and returned them to us saying their line or something isn't working so we had to pay cash. They gave us this really light shot (i don't drink and I thought it was light) as an apology. doubtful I am returning. Also doubtful I will be recommending it to anyone.
Taco Tuesday is a must… let's taco bout it!
Fast friendly service with good bar food and yummy drinks. Casual atmosphere with great music and open windows in for summer, so you can always catch a nice breeze. Ideal for smaller groups, beat for catching up or for happy hour. Haven't had any complaints about anything I've tried on their menu, thus far. Their wings are also super tasty if you're looking for something with lots of bold flavor! Must try, even if it's just once (:
