Came here with yelp's $10 for $5 deal.
Got the Philly cheesesteak and fries combo.
This establishment is very shady with their prices. The combo was $10 (overpriced) and the prices on their menu are not accurate. Even though the cheesesteak combo was listed as $8 on the menu, they said that getting the Philly cheesesteak was an extra $2 even though the different cheesesteaks on the menu a la carte are practically same prices.
The cheesesteak itself was ok. I really liked the bread they used and the meat was fine but the big disappointment lies in the cheese whiz they use which isn't hot and comes from a bottle. Before I was even halfway through the cheesesteak, the cheese had already hardened. The sandwich could have used way more onions too. Sadly, this cheesesteak was a far cry from the authentic Philly cheesesteaks.
The cheese fries were average as it had the same cheese issue as the cheesesteaks. Cheese on cheese fries should be hot, not cold.
I didn't get to try the hotdogs which I heard were good but I'm not sure I would come back to this place since it's a far drive from where I live.
Definitely fulfilled my craving for a cheesesteak! Not only was it great service, but the food was good too. I ordered the Jersey cheesesteak with a side of fries and a piña colada (similar to Gray's Papaya drink selections in the city if you are craving those and don't want to cross the river). Easily the best cheesesteak I've had in the are. The finely diced peppers and onions was a big plus in my book. Would absolutely come back here the next time I have a hankering…
The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star would be I've been to Philly and had the some of the best cheesesteaks there. If allowed, I might have given This place a 4.5 star review…
First time I came here, I ordered a cheesesteak with cheez whiz, as a true Philladelphian would. Sandwich was great, and pairing it with a Cap'n Crunch milkshake (amazing) led to a truly satisfying meal. The owner is usually on premise and a brief conversation with him showed he's very friendly and knowledgeable/experienced in the food business. However, second time around (several months later), he reported that they no longer serve their cheesesteaks with cheez whiz.
"WHAT!?", I thought to myself.
I settled on american cheese slices, but it just wasn't the same.
My advice: bring the cheez whiz back.
I experienced excellent customer service at the Shake N Grill this morning. I bought the $5 for $10 deal off Yelp and dropped by. Ordered a Philly cheese steak with jalapenos, a grilled cheese, and a jamaican beef patty. All of that for my $10 yelp deal. The cheese steak was great, loaded with meat, cheez whiz, peppers, onions, and jalapenos. As good as a cheese steak from Philly.
The grilled cheese was OK. The bread was thicker than I would have liked, it overpowered the cheese and ended up a little soggy. Beef patty was good. A typical beef patty.
But excellent customer service! Food service industry forgets how important that is sometimes. The man in charge was unsure of how to let me use my yelp deal. I offered to pay normally by credit card, but he insisted I leave without paying for anything, trusting I would return later once his son, the owner, could charge my yelp deal. I'm going back in a few minutes to pay for everything. I will gladly return for more cheese steaks. Hopefully I get an order of curly jalapeno cheese fries too!
