  1. This is a solid choice for the wine amaters, connosour and just for anyone looking to get that specific bottle that nobody else has in stock. Coming in to the store you can peruse their selection or if you are like me, i bring my sherry Lehman catalog and i go to work looking for what i need. Understand that you will pay premium and althougj some people may consider it a bit stuffy dont be afraid to tell your sales person exactly for what you are looking. Sometimes i like to call ahead so that they can hold bottles for me. If you get their catalog sometimes you can find a good buy for limited quantity products.
Excellent service all around if you buy online or thru their catalog. They do not diasapoint. If there is something you want they may be able to special order it, just ask.

  2. Ordered some gifts for colleagues and John was very helpful.  I had to call back and make changes to the original order, but he was patient with me.  Love that they have such a large selection to choose from and that they offer wrapping and delivery within manhattan.

He was helpful in recommending some wines within our budget, and even suggested a wine that was on the lower end of our budget because he thought it had a very great taste. (he could've been pushy and tried to upsell us on something more pricey, but didn't – which I admire)

They will email you a receipt if you request it too, which was helpful.

Will use them again to order gifts.  Everything arrived as expected on time.

  3. I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews. First the shop is awesome with dark wood and all the champagne is stored in the cellar and kept cool. The staff both times have helped me and were very friendly. The selection of champagne is the best I have found so far with a lot of vintage and non vintage bottles. The prices are better than most places as well, it's really close to the 59th and lex stop so it's a no brainer for me.

  4. Five stars for the spectacular selection but where this place falls short is in the awkward selling process and the service.

You walk in, wait for the staff to notice that you want to throw money at them, then they follow you around the store, inputting your order into the system, you pay at the register, and wait for your order to show up from the basement via a dumbwaiter.  This just extends the transaction needlessly and makes the shop seem short staffed, so you are always waiting for service.

Prices are neither here or there versus others in the area – you go to Sherry Lehmann for the selection.  Not a very endearing shop that you feel good about patronizing.

  5. A different experience.  First consult with someone in the store, make your selections, get a slip of paper and pay.  Your win will then magically appear via dumbwaiter.  Liquor is on the shelves and can be had quickly.  Excellent selection of vintage Port and Madeira.  Very old school but I like it and now that I am based in this area I will be coming more often.

  6. I was out for a late afternoon stroll today, and upon passing Sherry-Lehmann Wine & Spirits, remembered having read about them as the result of a Google search for the best wine stores in Manhattan. Naturally, I walked in to check it out.

Immediately upon entering, I was greeted and offered assistance. It's always a major bonus, in my opinion, not only to feel welcome, but to know that help is available, even if I'm pretty sure I won't need it. I often walk into a wine store with no plans to ask questions, but find myself becoming curious about something I see (I'm still somewhat of a beginner when it comes to learning about wine).

I took advantage of the offer for help, and one thing I have to say is that the person who assisted me was EXTREMELY patient, nice, and knowledgeable. I'm planning on returning to this wine store, and until then, I am going to assume due to their reputation that this quality of service is consistent across the board with their employees.

The person who helped me showed me how to navigate their computer database of wines. He mentioned that the stock on display on the floor is not representative of the amount of wines they actually carry (it is a somewhat small interior, but they store wines downstairs and also have a warehouse in Brooklyn). Additionally, I was made aware that if there was a certain wine I wanted that wasn't immediately available at the store, I could try to obtain it by calling them at least 3 hours ahead of time and seeing if they are able to get it delivered from their warehouse. The fact that they are happy to try symbolizes superior customer service!

It is very true that their selection is not at all lacking. I would highly recommend at least knowing a few basic things about what you're looking for before you go in there – dry or sweet, white or red, oak or steel, some key regions and varieties of wines you have enjoyed in the past. It will make your search a lot easier, since not everything is on display.

After I made my purchase, I was offered a form to fill out about a specific wine that is difficult to track down, and can only be ordered in limited quantities. While the contingency is that I must buy the entire case if they are able to obtain it, their willingness to look into finding a wine for a customer is an awesome service. Side note: they also deliver. Orders over $150 are free.

I will definitely be coming here in the future! This is the type of wine store I will go to when I'm in the mood to browse, try something new, or search for something unique. Since I'm no expert, I feel like it's good not to visit a store like this while in a rush. One last thing: while some of their wines can be on the more expensive end, it IS possible to find wines within most budgets. Mine ranges from about $10-25 for an everyday wine (anything more is a splurge or a special occasion), and I did just fine.

  7. Great wine showroom with an exceptional selection of wines and excellent customer service. I got an excellent bottle of Cab from NZ the other evening (name escapes me, sorry!). You pick the wine you want and then ask one of the employees who will get the bottle sent up from their stock room below as they process your payment. Prices are on the higher end as should be expected.

  8. 300th REVIEW (I just noticed after I wrote it and went back to the home page).

I went to Sherry-Lehmann because I happened to be walking by after a long jacuzzi  at New York Health and Racquet, where I had a pass, and they had a wine tasting. I'm never one to turn down free wine and I loved this store.

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, not what snooty or uptight as you'd expect at a location like this. But actually this part of Park has about 6 food trucks where lawyers and bankers grab a quick bite before going back to work and surprisingly, you can eat very well in an area you'd not expect to find great cheap food.

They were tasting three Arboleda wines and I have lost the notes so can't say too much except that I bought the 20 dollar red, a Carmaneres (it's some lost Chilean grape with a good backstory).

I didn't love the Sauvignon, 16, but did love the red at 20. They also had a 95 dollar red which was fascinating but clearly too sophisticated for my budget /wine lush palette. It's the first time in any establishment I liked the cheaper option better than the out of my budget option 🙂

The bags are beautiful. I saved it and will stick in my suitcase to take back to LA this weekend.

Oh, and they have a dumbwaiter, which I thought was very cool!
