  1. You get what you pay for. Cheap lunch specials in a hole in the wall. Service is spotty especially during lunch hours and pricing is a bit inconsistent. For example, extra ginger dressing during a sit down meal wouldn't be extra, but when I asked for it to go, they charged me an extra dollar for a tiny container.

  2. As far as all you can eat sushi joints go, this one is pretty decent. While you don't get the fancy rolls that are available on the menu, there are over a dozen rolls and pieces to choose from. Standard selections of course, but variety is nice.

Service is fine. Our waitress went back and forth and was happy to keep giving us little postcards to fill out. She also kept filling up our water and sake (free with the sushi) without us asking. You'd think these things would be standard at restaurants, but it's kind of amazing to me that they aren't.

This place does a lot of business at lunch and dinner, which means they go through a lot of fish, which keeps it relatively fresh. It's obviously not as good as you'll find at a nicer, more expensive place, but it does the trick. I'll go back.

  3. Standard sushi place in a convenient location. I'm kind of amazed by all the poor reviews.

  4. I'm a little taken back from the recent 4- and 5-star reviews for Shinju from a few Elite Friends of mine, cause I personally don't feel the same.

Let me make this simple for you – Shinju Sushi is downright terrible.

The sushi is poor quality, the place itself doesn't seem that clean, and the takeout service was fairly rude.  When my company first moved to FiDi, I came a few times, and every time, it was bad.

And the place is rather dark and the sushi bar is right at the entrance and not in the back near the eating area…so strange.

I don't have much else to say (and I usually write long reviews lol) other than, Pass on Shinju.

Instead, go to Nu Sushi or Taste of Tokyo – they're only two blocks away, but exponentially better in quality!

  5. For all you sushi lovers in the FIDI area, Shin Ju Sushi has a decent lunch deal.

I usually order their lunch special rolls. You will have 2 choices of any 2 rolls for $7.95 or any 3 rolls for $9.94. This is also served with Miso Soup or Salad. There are 25 types of rolls that range from Tuna to the Boston roll.  My normal roll selections are the spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and salmon avocado roll.

My one advice is that you call in your lunch. If you order there, you will be waiting for a very long time before you get your food.

There's nothing special about this place but a cheap lunch. So do not have high expectations.

  6. The sushi wasn't anything great, the people were rude. I just didn't have a great experience here.  So many other better places to try.

  7. Even a three-star average for this place kinda amazes me.  I've had delivery sushi from a lot of places in the Financial District, and Shinju had the least fresh fish out of all of them by a wide margin.  Distinctly slimy and fishy-smelling, like it had been sitting out all day before being sliced and served–I did not risk finishing it.  Delivery via seamless was none too swift either.

Lots of alternatives in the area, avoid.

  8. This is  run by Chinese so do not expect authenticity.  It's decent for what it is.  On the plus side, it does get quite crowded so I can't picture how the sushi cannot be fresh.  They do have ample seating.  I've been taking out lately and they are a tad slow on the preparation side, but as I stated…they get really crowded.

I also get the sushi deluxe which replaces the california rolls with spicy tuna rolls (in addition to the sushi) which is chosen by the chef.  Decent prices for what you get and their salad is good.
