  1. Allow me to drop some Korean-food knowledge to you all.  Korean food is more than just kalbi, bulgogi, bibimbap and/or chapchae.  That is just one segment of K-food most agreeable to the western palate.  K-food in its everyday form is very flavorful (ie spicy, salty, vinegary) and a lot less savory/sweet.  Indeed, most Koreans in Seoul don't bother to eat the aforementioned menu.  BBQ is eaten only on the rarest/special of occasions.  What they do eat everyday are varieties of tang (soups), chigae (stews), and fish (preferrably grilled/fried) with their bowl of rice.

And keeping this tradition alive is what Shin Shun does best.  Their food is very, very authentic.  Shin Sun would be a typical neighborhood corner restaurant in Seoul.

Seuol Lung Tang (beef brisket soup)- check.  Do Gani Tang (beef knuckle soup)- check.  Gop Chang chigae (beef intestine soup)- check.  Gom Tang (ox-tail soup)- check.  And other items on the menu that would be consumed daily by the Korean hoi polloi.

Also, their kakdoogi (radish kimchi) is excellent- just as you would find in a like-minded restaurant in Seoul.  The godunguh gui (grilled mackeral) was huge and salted perfectly.

Shin Sun is highly recommended if you would like to move away from the shallow end (eg  kalbi, bulgogi) of the K-food world and dive into the deep end.  Go ahead, take the plunge.  Your stomach will thank you.

  2. I have to agree with the other folks, Shin Shun had the best sulang tang ever!  The broth has just the right consistency and the beef didn't have the gamey smell like other restaurants.  I thought I loved Gahwa but this place comes close or even beats the former.  I have to go back to Gahwa to compare.

Minus one star for the banchans.  They're not as good as other places.  They give you more of a variety for a sulang tang restaurant but it just wasn't good.  This restaurant is right across from King Sauna so I heard people stop by after their spa day to eat here.  Will have to include the spa day next time.

  3. I am very surprised this place doesn't have a lot of yelp reviews, I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I am a soup lover, and I love all different kind of Korean soup, soup here is really good!!!
They have different kind of soup and my personally favorite are seaweeds soup in beef broth (Miyeok Guk) and ginseng chicken soup (Samgyetang), they are just delicious!!!  The most famous of their soup is sullung tang ( beef soup ) so if you are sullung tang lover, you should definitely come here and try!
