Shinbashi Sushi
“definitely one of the better places for sushi not just in east village but in the city in general; i'll be coming back for more.”
“Order the Yakitoro (blowtorched) Salmon Toro (belly).”
“Lastly they made me a chef's favorite roll (not on the menu) consisting of spicy tuna on the inside and albacore white tuna on the outside.”

Another reason why you should never go to a Japanese restaurant operated by Chinese people.
1) rice is over-cooked and so mushy.
2) rolls we ordered are falling apart
3) cheap wasabi
Customer centricity / service doesn't exist. Only one waitress serving the entire place so our miso soup didn't come until we asked for it and after we received our rolls. No soy sauce readily available either. Appetizers, by definition, should come before your meal and not after.
And this review isn't being written in the middle of our meal so I wonder what else will happen.
Either way, not coming here again or recommend this place to anyone
came here around 7pm on a tuesday and it was pretty empty, and by 730 it was packed so id definitely make reservations in advance. all the rolls we tried were excellent, and the place put their own little twist on the standards:
1. eel & avocado roll : im so used to room-temperature eel that having it served made warm and soft was unexpected and delicious. i cant go back to lukewarm eel & avocado anymore
2. sea urchin & salmon sushi: both were great, and they add a bit of what i think is lemon/turmeric paste to the top of the rolls which adds a delicate twist. i cant decide whether i like the plain or with this topping, but it was still really good
3. if you go to their website they have this "insiders tip" section where they mention this off-menu item called yaki toro salmon which is seared fatty salmon belly. this was by far the tastiest item we had so definitely try this out
4. rainbow roll: mixture of tune, crab and salmon rolls, very tasty
overall i really enjoyed the delicious variety of sushi, the small and cozy atmosphere and the friendly sushi chefs, and the food came out pretty quickly even though there seemed to be only 1 chef working. definitely one of the better places for sushi not just in east village but in the city in general; i'll be coming back for more.
When I came here today I had really high expectations because I've had take out from the old location before and it was really good, however I left quite disappointed today, I ordered a salmon bowl large and my friend had a medium Uni bowl.. The uni didn't taste as fresh as I had hoped (I am picky about uni )and it was quite small for a medium, my large salmon rice had a lot of rice and very little salmon and they didn't put the bonito flakes/rice seasoning that I once had when it was made from their old location. I am not sure what changed, maybe the chef didn't make it himself. The only thing I found exceptional was their "off the menu item" which was salmon toro and that was hella good, seared salmon belly. I probably wouldn't come back here unless I was craving salmon belly.
