  1. I just realized I have never reviewed one of my favorite restaurants.  Definitely top 2 for sushi.  I am going to skip the Hibachi part of this restaurant, because to me, it is standard in every restaurant, and while it is good, this is not why I go here.

Shiro is all about the Sushi for me.  Not only do I love the chef's, but the freshness of the fish cannot be beat.  The special rolls here are amazing, and I could go on and on about it.

The stand outs for me are without a doubt the Millenium, the Black Dragon, and the double double.  Even the simplest of rolls like salmon and spicy tuna are amazing.  Ask for the spicy tuna, but with a whole piece of fish, not chopped…YUM!

If you like Sashimi, then order it and let the chef pick…..SO AMAZING.  This is our go to for sushi, even take out.  And it isn't right around the corner for us.

My only complaint is they used to have this fantastic spicy calamari salad, which they don't make anymore.  I miss it so much:-(

  2. after reading some pretty solid reviews on here i was excited to try shiro tonight – unfortunately, it fell way short of the hype…frankly, it was overpriced & completely under-delivered

let's start with the service: it was extremely aloof all around, nobody really took much time to speak to us, i get that it was a busy saturday night, but a polite greeting would go a long way…couple this with the super rush job they put on both in delivery food way faster than it should be and then nudging us out the door after paying (our party of 6 eventually wound up in the parking lot to finish chatting because of it), not the kind of service i expect when dropping this kind of $$

as for the food: from start to finish i felt that they didn't give you a whole lot for your money, especially when compared to other hibachi spots – the sushi was pretty good, i'll give them that – but the hibachi was a massive disappointment…they cut corners in alot of subtle ways: no sake squirts like they give you at other spots, the fried rice was completely subpar, entree portions were rather small as well…whereas most places will crack open eggs right in front of you when making the rice, here they had some pre made egg concoction that was poured onto the grill, and to make matters worse wifey later discovered that there were carts of the stuff sitting out near the bathrooms waiting to be brought to the next tables…not the most appetizing discovery to say the very least

  3. having made reservations for 6:30pm on a sunday evening, one would imagine that the odds are in our favor of beating the weekend crowd. Wrong, the crowd was plenty and even by checking in at 6:20pm, we were not seated till almost 7pm. If the wait was gonna happen, kinda defies the purpose of reservations.

the staff was friendly and our table chef was amazing, hence the 3 stars. instead of the 2 fried rice ordered, only received one.  the food was ok, felt it was not to par with the other hibachi locales, could be due to an off day or something.  Our party of 4 ordered the hibachi tuna, hibachi chicken & shrimp, hibachi shrimp, and hibachi steak and lobster. Like I mentioned, the food was a bit more bland and the lobster had a strong saltwater or saltish taste, making it a difficult chew. the accompanying noodles and veggies were good along with the onion soup.

  4. Not the most fanciest place, not the cleanest place, nor is it the most romantic place – but for some reason I always have a good meal here.  I recommend the hibachi as that is what they are known for.  It comes with soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, your main protein, rice, noodles or bean sprouts, and vegetables.

We had to wait an extra 20 minutes but the manager did the right thing by bringing us shrimp tempura and a round of drinks.

    I would go back.

  5. Wanted to give 3 1/2… but maybe next time. It's like Benihana but a bit more flexible, At Benihana they seem to stick to the printed menu and either dont understand special requests or just ignore them.  I am more of a sushi gal than hibachi, and you can get it all here.  The atmosphere is great here, a little dark – but the diningroom is huge, although they manage to make it seem intimate at your own table.  They have plenty of grill tables, and reguilar tables as well.  The sushi area in back seems like it's own little restaurant, but of course you can order sushi at any table.  I find the hibachi fare just delicious, the foods are fresh and the grillers are fun. The Sushi chef's i have encountered bend over backward to please me.  I like that.  I have found that the waiters DON'T bend over any way to please anyone.  I've been a few times, and find them consistent, in that they lack the ability to convey to the chefs any deviation from the menu.  My advice (for sushi anyway) if ordering off menu – speak directly to the chef.  I sometimes come here at lunch and dine alone, and they dont seem to have any problem with that.  Beware of the spicyness of some of the sushi orders, lots of chili powder flinging around !!   THREE stars is a good honest review.  It by no means is an indication to stay away!

  6. Shiros is a place like any other Hibachi they try to get you in and out as fast as they can…But if you have a large party tell your hostess that you are not in a rush and they will slow down, and you will have a better experience. Honestly the concept is all the same i believe what makes it different is the quality and freshness of the ingredients.  i visited another location and the ingriedients came out frozen. But these didn't.  so on this day we ordered drinks and they were pretty weak i asked the hostess and she made it a little better.  without going through all the dishes ordered nobody have any complaints including the kids.  Presentation was good all of us enjoyed it.   We had a pretty good experience just dont let them dictate how fast you should eat.  compared to other hibachi places in the area that are well know this one is my favorite..

  7. We celebrated a friend's birthday with a large group.  We had our own table.  The place was packed on a Saturday night so make reservations!  Not much upfront parking, so parking in the rear is the best choice.  There is a small bar at the front while you wait for your table.
Once seated, just remember if you are at the hibachi table that it will be super hot and maybe a little cramped.  The chef was friendly and did the usual tricks. The food was good and there was certainly a lot of it.  I did not try any of the sushi and probably would stick to the hibachi stuff here.  My wife and I got the same scallops and steak option.  Scallops were ok.  The sauces they prepare for you certainly help.

  8. Okay, I must admit that I was extremely worried that this would be a place for those who are more…easily entertained. Maybe it's my lack of experience, but while having Hibachi in Asia, I never, ever have the chef playing with the food or otherwise trying to playfully entertain guests…ever.

Food: the rolls were quite good and the fried soft shell crab was excellent. The fried scallops, however, were not as great – the dough surrounding each scallop was way too thick. Hamachi Kama needed slightly more sea salt but it was cooked to near perfection! Not dry at all! Green tea ice cream totally rocked. Large portion, too!

Service: there is a Japanese man behind the Sushi/Sashimi bar but most of the servers were Mandarin speakers who were extremely friendly.

Decor: quite clean. stay away from the Hibachi area if you don't want your clothes to smell after the meal. The regular dining area is quite cozy.
