I stopped by here because I originally wanted the Bento Box combo. I was interested in the Sushi but wanted a more substantial meal and the Bento Box seemed like it would deliver the best of both worlds….apparently they closed the kitchen down because it wasn't making them any money. The sushi packaged sushi is better than most mainly because it's fresh but it's on the pricey side. I'd rather skip this place and get the lunch special from my place closer to home. For $10 I can get much more food and have a bento box combo if I choose.
So, the story goes: Shiro of Japan took over Masato….which sold horrendous sushi in the grand central, I didn't realize until the owner of Shiro of Japan emailed me. I was told that they they replaced Masato and is making fresh sushi with good quality of fish…etc. I wasn't willing to take down my review, but I said that I was willing to give it another try and to revise my review.
So I came back to Shiro of Japan 3 different days this week to try different sushi, I had Volcano Roll, Chili Roll, Yellowtail Scallion, Spicy Tuna and something else that I forgot the name. I was even going to try their Teriyaki and Udon, but they only sell the hot dish till 6pm.
And I have to say, I was very impressed with the taste and quality of the sushi Shiro of Japan managed to deliver in the Grand Central. Not only it was way better than Masato, it was actually very good….I guess much better than what I'd expect in a train station.
Besides, the service is pretty good, every time I go this week, people were very friendly and it feels that they'd like to make it work. I hope they will continue keeping the standard.
And I will certainly come back to try their Teriyaki and Udon soon!
We got sushi to go from here for dinner. They have pre packaged sushi that is fairly priced. I had the cucumber avocado roll and my boyfriend got the tuna roll. Both the rolls were good, not the most best that I have good but good enough if you want a quick meal on the go while you are at Grand Central. While the sushi is pre packaged, you can tell by eating it that it hasn't been sitting out for a while.
