I came here for a Christmas dinner, so I'm not sure this is a fair review of their normal menu. However, I felt the Christmas experience was enough.
Overall, this is a run of the mill establishment. The food tasted like it was frozen and reheated. Service was friendly and prompt, given it was a holiday. The prices were average, but you can certainly get better food for the same price in the neighborhood. I was not a fan of the decor. It felt dated while simultaneously trying too hard to look cool.
If you're looking for a place to eat reheated American food set in a restaurant/bar with lots of tv's, this is your place. If you want a place with more character, try elsewhere.
My friend and I strolled in here last Friday night, sans reservation (which was my fault because I am becoming a total Brooklyn snob and didn't think you'd need a reservation in Queens – sorry! Don't hate!). The hostess that evening (which I believe may also be the owner?) quickly found us a comfy booth – and the place was packed. Not sure how she managed that but I LOVE A PLACE that gives a booth to a party of 2. It is a beautiful restaurant – spacious, clean and comfortable.
Our server took a couple of minutes to come over, but I am overlooking this because when she did she was very friendly and attentive. She also brought over warm rolls and mini scones. Warm carbs with butter is one of the fastest ways to my heart. We shared the fried shrimp appetizer, and then had fish n chips and warm beet salad with salmon. I realize that I probably lost most of you with 'warm beet salad', but it was delicious. Everything we ate was delicious. And after our initial waiting for service, we were treated royally the rest of our meal. In fact, I am writing this review because my friend and I got into a little teensy, weensy argument towards the end of our meal – which stopped our eating mid-dinner. I'm pretty sure the server thought we didn't like the food because we stopped eating (and I do not get anything boxed to go because I am trying to avoid completely turning into my mother), but our meal ended early only because we were annoying the crap out of each other – it had nothing to do with the food.
Here's another situation where the .5 would be useful. The drinks are intoxicatingly good and strong, unfortunately that is not the same for their food, but they make-it-up for their decor and lovely waitresses.
Sidetrack is great for large groups, drinks, and finger foods. I would even dare to say, it's actually good for date night because they have these cozy nooks for privacy.
I came here for happy hour recently. They give complimentary appetizers when you come with a large group which makes for a good deal. The cocktails are too sweet for me though so I preferred getting bourbon on the rocks. Nice space and the food was not bad.
Happy hour is from 4-8 with very little selection of beers and other drinks. Came around casually for a drink with one friend and our service was very slow. We sat ourselves and didn't get any help for at least 15 minutes. When trying to ask for check it was another 15 minutes of trying to get the servers attention. Eventually I had to take my check to the bar and ask for it to get it settled. Do yourself a favor and find another happy hour place to go to– so many options around this area
We came here for drinks and decided to stay for dinner. The food tasted ok. I ordered the New Orleans Saints burger which included sweet potato fries. The Po' boy sandwich tasted great. However, the fries tasted dry and some tasted very soggy like left over from the previous day. The waiter apologized and quickly remedied the problem by giving me fresh fries.
I like the ambiance. It caters to the yuppie crowd. Close to the 7 train, it is a good place to meet with friends for a couple of drinks or dinner. Aside from easy transportation, you can walk around the neighborhood with ease.
I gave this place 3 stars due to my experience with the bad fries.
Side tracks is a pretty popular place in the neighborhood. The food is pretty good too, they usually have a nice happy hour. Brunches are good too. I wasn't too much a fan of their sangria although it's tasty, it's kinda over priced. They often have events, DJs and stuff and can get a decent sized crowded. They have a cool bar with some good floor space. A good amount of TVs to watch sports and stuff.
This was one of the first places I trekked past around 2am when I was trying to get to my friends place from the 7. It was pretty crowded, and the music spilled out onto the street along with the heat inside as the doors opened. Looked like a good time so I figured it was a bar/lounge. I wish I had gotten the name, but I was way too tired.
The following morning (more like afternoon; I'm on vacation here), Amy suggested we go to brunch at a number of local places, including Bliss Bistro and Sidetracks. Walking over, I was surprised to notice this was the place from last night, as I didn't know it was a restaurant. She was praising the worth of an eggs benedict dish, and I knew I'd be able to find something I'd like.
Speaking of finding something I'd like, pretty much every category from Pancakes and Waffles, Sidetracks Brunch Specials and even the Sidetracks Brunch Sides had something that looked appealing. I finally decided on the chocolate chip peanut butter banana pancakes since I knew my friend would help me out on these. They did not disappoint. Not the biggest fan of bananas, but there were only a few bites within the pancakes (a downer to someone who would expect overflow of bananas) and I have to say the little that there were balanced out the peanut butter nicely.
Brunch was no more than $20 between the both of us, and I felt I satisfied and not overly full after. If I was to be in the area again, I would definitely make a return trip for some of the other items I missed out on this visit.
