A friend of mine was having a show in the back room. My first impressions wasn't great as the back room smells quite damp but I got used to it quickly. They have very cheap beers which was nice and allow these local acts to perform which is awesome. Service was pretty good and the waitress was attentive. I'd come back.
Wow! Talk about amazing Chicken shawarma! I am in love with this dish – amazing roasted chicken with a bbq flavor, hints of dill and other incredible spices over rice, topped with Tahini and the most delicious pickles on the side. Happy hour wine glasses are only 4$! We were in heaven! My sister reported the falafel was amazing too. Service was a little slow, but the ambience is good and the servers are nice. We were stoked to be staying next to this east village haunt on our vacation.
Gotta love places with weekend happy hour deals! I had the frozen pink margarita ($5) which I was expecting to just be the normal 8 oz size, but wow they give a lot! Flavor was really good, not overly sour or overly sweet and it packs a punch for the low price. I also split the Grasshopper spiked milkshake with my boyfriend ($13.95); it's one of those deceptively strong drinks because it just tastes like ice cream! Staff is friendly and attentive, as well. I didn't try any food here but the menu looked good so I will next time.
Was here on a Sunday a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful spring day and everybody was out. We happened upon this place and they had nice outdoor seating. While other places had long waits, they accommodated us immediately. We sat outside, got some sun, people watched and enjoyed their inexpensive but delicious brunch. I think it was about $14 – coffee and a drink included – for brunch. I had a yummy omelette and my friends enjoyed their meals too. Service was friendly and prompt. Would definitely come back!
Loved this place! I wish I had known about this it way back when I was out all the time!! I ended here last night to see my friend perform and the line up of performers, musicians, and artists was amazing! Such a cool ambiance, great atmosphere and talents. Also read the menu and got to see the food around, it looked great!! I can't wait to come back, have a delicious, huge, awesome looking meal while enjoying the eclectic mix of artists in front of me. This place is a gem 🙂 oh, how much I love thee, New York!
I want to give this place 3.5 stars, so I'm rounding up to 4.
Stumbled upon this place on a Saturday evening when every other restaurant in Alphabet City had an hour and a half wait. We were immediately seated. Drinks were pretty good and VERY well priced. I think a house vodka soda was $6 bucks, and their famous pink margarita was $9. The food menu is pretty generic, but there's a lot of options and everything we tried was surprisingly good. We had the nachos and Guac with grilled chicken (yum) and the Mac and cheese which my friend thought was the best she ever had…
Overall good experience except the bathrooms were a little bit disgusting and the waiter was a kind of a space cadet so we had to constantly call him over. Also, the service was slow considering the place wasn't packed. However, I'll take good food over fast service any day — although I prefer them both 🙂
I wouldn't come here on a first date but this is a good place to catch up with friends and get good bar food!
This review is for the Bar. Sidewalk appears to be 2 spaces. To the left you have a small dive bar with cool ambiance and lighting and to the right you have the restaurant side with its own separate entrance. On to Bar review: Love the ambiance and this place seems to attract interesting characters that add to the experience. To the back of the bar is a separate little neat stage area where they have live music and other performing arts throughout the week. Beer and drinks were reasonably priced for the area and there is free wifi if that is important to you. The bartender was really nice and there are TVs if you want to just chill and catch an event or sports. Will definitely check out again if I'm in the area and maybe try their food as well. The musical playlist was fun too, a lot of top 40 plus some classic hits.
Brunch on a humid June Sunday afternoon in East Village, Alphabet City with a party of two surely ate my fill. We ordered:
Sidewalk Cafe Eggs Benedict with veggies and hash browns
Sidewalk Cafe Smoked Ham Omelette with veggies and hash browns
Fried Calamari
Pineapple juice
Coffee
Service was turtle slow as we attempted to flag all waitress including bus boys' attention for more Pineapple juice and more cup of joe. Our food was served approximately forty minutes after placing our order– entirely too long! With great pain from recent major surgery I needed to sit for several minutes after we have completed our meal. Thankfully, the wait staff did not usher us out as I was unable to walk because my surgical pain ripples my entire body. Price is reasonable for brunch. Décor is very rustic.
Sidewalk Café serves the Stuyvesant community as a café, bar and venue performance space. In the rear there is a stage for live performances including an open-mic of all talents welcomed. Free delivery is available with a $10.00 minimum order, cash only.
