Came here with a Groupon which is slightly better than the Yelp check in. Its a cool little place. Its pretty simple. There is some beer and there is some pretzels. A great, albeit simple, combination. Garlic pretzel was good, cheesy pretzel was okay. The beer was good. We were there at happy-ish hour (around 5-6 PM) and were the only people there for the next hour. Not that big a deal but kind of weird. The bartender was nice though and played good music and said the place is usually really crowded on weekends. The three stars is because I just don't see myself coming back for a pretzel and beer (I don't live in the area).
At this location, you get your free pretzel with the first beer order at the bar. The place is very cute, as you walk into the store, you see the bar right in the middle, and there're 2 display cases of pretzels. The bartender/cashier is very nice. I ordered the salted pretzel, and it was soft and had just the right amount of salt on it. I would definitely bring some friends back here to grab a beer and down some pretzels, as having pretzels with beers are way better than having beers with greasy burgers and fried bar food (at least the sound of it), since summer is around the corner.
Loved the feta pretzel and truffle cheddar pretzel. Nice beer selection, and all open air in nice weather. 1st beer ordered. comes with a free pretzel. Definitely would go back.
**Sometimes Groupon has deals here. Check before you go!
During my two visits to Sigmund's I can say for sure this is a 5-star establishment. Alex is as great of a shop manager as you can find! If I opened my own restaurant I could only hope to employ someone as great as customer service as Alex. Sigmund's offers a free pretzel with your first beer, which is an awesome way to get you in the door.
The atmosphere is small and inviting at anytime of day. The menu offers delicious fresh made pretzels with enough variety for the sweet or savory palate. My favorites were the Churro and the Cheddar/Truffle. The Chocolate Porter and Fresh Slice White IPA were both excellent choices for beverage.
It might actually be a sin not to get one of the pretzels from SIgmund Pretzel shop, cause it's not your typical pedestrian pretzel! Sigmund has set up shop at the UrbanSpace food court, offering some good gastropub grub – pretzels, sandwiches, and of course some beer!
The chuddar truffled pretzel was at room temp when I got my hands on it, which was a bit surprising. (Nothing beats a warm pretzel with a side of mustard!) Now, Sigmund has a few offerings for accompanying sauces – and after much debate I chose the honey mustard. Before you try it, I must warn you. The majority of it is honey and the mustard taste isn't lost at all – a win win for the pretzel! Shovel it in your mouth alongside the pretzel, you get that oh-so-good combo of sweet and salty. I also tried the reuben sandwich, which was quite alright with the generous helping of corned beef, but it was second fiddle to the pretzel.
Mmm Sigmunds Pretzels
I have been here a few times and have tried all of the pretzels and some are better than others.
When you come into Sigmunds it seems to have an identity crisis. Is it a pretzel place that serves beer and food. Is it a restaurant that serves pretzels as its specialty. Is it a sports bar since they have what the main sporting event of the night on the tv.
It's a great spot to watch Monday night football or any other game as the sports bars in the area get packed but not this one. It would be awesome if they added another 1 or 2 tvs and played the sound from the game.
Anyways on to the pretzels the churro and the cinnamon were unbelievable with the Nutella and jam sides. Those are by far the best and I highly suggest you get those if you come here. Those have the most flavor and taste so sweet and delicious. In regards to the draft beers they are always changing and they are all really good. For prices they are all really fair
I will definitely be coming back here.
In short:
– churro pretzel is the best
– good draft beers
– fair prices
Sigmund gets three stars solely for it's beer selection and atmosphere. They have a great, rotating selection of beers for a decent price! It would great place to meet up with a friend for happy hour or to grab drinks before you head out for a real meal in the East Village.
The star of the show should be the pretzels, I mean it is Sigmund PRETZEL shop. And with bold names like truffle cheddar and garlic parsley, you expect some bold flavor, but unfortunately it fell flat. The pretzels were extremely bland. I felt like I was just eating cooked dough. The sauces on the side were really syrupy and unappetizing.
I would definitely come back for a beer, but I would be hesitant to try a pretzel again.
Went here in a Tuesday around 6:30pm. Cute place, very welcoming and cozy. Only one guy was working but it wasn't busy so it wasn't too bad. Since happy hour was still going on, I got a free pretzel with my first drink. Then I went ahead and ordered a few more pretzels…
Here's the pretzels I got:
Truffle cheddar cheese – warm but not hot. Good flavor, could definitely taste the truffle which was nice. Came with a spicy mustard sauce.
Garlic parsley – same deal, warm not hot. Not much garlic flavor, tasted kind've plain. Came with a spicy mustard and honey mustard mixed dip.
Churro pretzel – warm not hot, yet again. The best pretzel I had while here. Came with a Nutella dipping sauce. So fluffy and sweet, it was honestly delicious.
Overall, I liked sigmund's and consider going back but only to try the sandwiches and go get myself maybe a different flavored pretzel and the amazing churro-flavored. Biggest complaint is that the kitchen was closed so I couldn't order a sandwich, and I wish the pretzels were warmer. If you happen to be near one of the sigmund's locations, I'd try this place out.
