stopped in for a skewer snack after dinner and waited a bit but i think bc they were changing fresh coal. we had a bbq squid skewer, chicken gizzard skewer, bbq chicken skewer and bbq beef skewer. for the chicken and beef i prefer the ones in flushing because i like it when the beef is fattier. overall not bad for a snack and i do want to come back for different things.
YUMYUM!
Ever since moving away from Flushing, I've always craved the BBQ sticks that I usually find on every street corner. Because I live in South Slope now, it's so hard to get down to Sunset Park- but when I do, I always make a stop at Simon's.
Last week was the first time I met Simon. It was about 1AM, and my boyfriend was really craving some BBQ so we stopped by this storefront. Much to my surprise, Simon himself was there. I was FLOORED at his kind demeanor. He pointed to the little table, handed me a menu, and asked me to take my time to order. Then he left to make a delivery while a young lady took my order.
Squid, mini sausages, mushrooms, chicken wings, YUM YUM YUM! Everything is absolutely delicious! — Minus the hot dog (but that was my fault- there was a miscommunication)
When I left the store, I saw Simon parking out front. He waved bye to me and ran over with another menu and thanked me for stopping by. He then talked a bit about all of their regular stands, and then told me that I could also call in orders beforehand so I wouldn't have to wait. I honestly couldn't believe how kind he was! And his PASSION? Absolutely blown away.
Thank you Simon- if anybody deserves this success, it's you.
Originally Simon's BBQ cart on 55th street and 8th ave! Everything is so good!
I was walking down the avenue and my arm was grabbed by some unknown party. Oh it was Simons dad! Wow what a surprise, as he led me around the corner and showed me the storefront which was still undergoing renovations.
I was happy to see they settled in when I returned a week later. The board of health A rating was up and I was ready for some spicy squid, rice cake, tofu and bacon wrapped chives.
They use chili powder but there sauce is quite a home secret. It adds a nice flavor to any item you order which you may like. I have always been a fan, since the days of sitting on 8th avenue devouring many sticks of well cooked bbq.
Now they have a nice storefront now, but I was told the original cart is still going to be used on the weekend starting today. For some fresh, delicious and inexpensive food this cant be beat on 8th avenue.
