  1. This was recommended by my friends who come here often and say that this is the best place to get Roti!

Upon arriving on a late Saturday afternoon (4pm), there was a very long line. You could tell the place was very traditional since there was many locals there. It's like Trinidadian fast food but wasn't sure how I felt that they served "Chinese-styled" dishes as well. A little confusing. We waited about 30 mins to order and we were struggling about what we should get. My boyfriend and I knew what we wanted but wasn't exactly sure what it was called. We wanted Roti and chickpea curry. We decided tot get two Dhal Puri's and a double to share ($5). We were mind blown when we saw the size of 1 Dhal Puri – Roti filled with mashed chickpea. It was difficult for two people to share 1 Piece, it was huge! It's so worth $2! Next time I know to get a side of curry. I wasn't exactly sure what Dhal Puri was.. And read reviews they you had to know what you wanted to order when is your turn otherwise they're rude. We didn't have any problems and the lady who helped us with our order was super friendly and cheerful! Doubles was closer to what we wanted — two flatbreads sandwiching a scoop of chickpea curry. The curry tasted really authentic, filled with plenty of spice and screaming with flavor! Wish I had a side of that to go with our two large pieces of Dhal!

I will definitely be back for more Roti!!

  2. I think Singh's deserves a solid 3 stars minus two stars for the inconsistency in the quality of their food. If you go on a weekday when they open or a little closer to noon, you can get some really good fresh out of the fryer edibles. If you go on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays anytime around 5 on. You're going to hit the long lines and the hoards of drunk gyrating men that dance to the music.

  3. The doubles are delicious!!! However, I'm not a fan of the mixed vegetable in the macaroni pie; it's weird. The jerk chicken is tasty and seasoned well also.

  4. I came here this past Saturday evening with my mother.
I'm going to make it completely clear that there's barely any parking. The side streets are too narrow to park and even if, the traffic cops are on a ball.

Besides that, this place gets busy. If you're cracking Guyanese and Trinidadian food, this place is for you. Very authentic and makes you feel like you're back home.(in the West Indies)

It gets really loud in here. There's a bar and seating. There's even a small live band.

Lines do get long but they move fast so don't worry.

    Downfall – cash only

  5. I really dont get the hype for singhs, the veggie dishes are good but thats about it!!!! The food isnt cooked for quality purposes, but more so for quantity since they accommodate for a much larger crowd. You are better off going to trini delite (down the block) for much better food!

  6. This place is a trip. Went there one night with a buddy who was familiar with it and the food. Hey, I'm all about trying some local grub! Part roti shop, part bar, part live music venue.  A word of advice is to bring some good ear plugs because the band plays at a deafening level. Oh and they may just beat the drums for about 10 minutes if they feel like it. We ordered some late night "doubles" that my friend was craving and they were pretty damn good. If I wasn't so full from an earlier meal, I would have sampled a few more items.

While you are waiting for your order, have a drink at the Carribean bar across the street. Cheap booze, awesome reggae music on a weekend.

  7. I'm sure you've heard the benefits of having a captive audience, especially when it comes to impulse purchases. I'm here to say that it's true. I have two crudely photocopied soca records, each with a couple dozen thickly compressed party tunes from Caribbean. And it's all because of location, location, location.

Singh's resembles a Burger King run by a franchisee who ignores all directives from the corporate office. The large, overlit signage and large identical tables remain, but there are placards in different fonts: "Maracas Style Bake & Shark, Fri & Sat & Sun" and colors all over the store. Merchandise is stacked up behind the counter and to the side, with canned goods and Caribbean medicine available for purchase with some curried goat.

As you wait in line, there's a DJ spinning records from a small booth. I'm not sure about any financial arrangement, but I left my half dozen or so friends in line while I surveyed the tunes on offer. It also helps that despite the high numbers of people working at Singh's, the service is very slow and very confusing. Traffic is funneled to a center counter, and then people are rather haphazardly put in different directions.

Eventually we actually try the food. It's very nice, with pigeon peas mixed in the rice, hot pepper paste to dip in with the chicken and plenty of flaky roti skins wrapped around the meat. We split a few entrees, which can be difficult with this food. We make do. The high volume means this is a great place to try additional seafood dishes and sides that aren't available elsewhere in Richmond Hill. A good place to come if you are making the pilgrimage out here and only want to eat at one South Caribbean joint.

  8. I love Singhs!

Their boneless Curry Chicken knocks my socks off

Chow Mein is one of my favorites but the best thing I think Singh's has is the Cha Sue Pork which is my ultimate favorite and I don't know why they don't have it everyday so it's a disappointment when I go and they don't have it.

The Phlorie is something that I usually eat on the car ride home and dip it in some tamarind sauce…visiting Trinidad made me come here for the wanting of authentic west Indian food.
