“I love their Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles and Devil Fried Rice.”
“Yes, more money than we'd like to spend, but the portions are large enough for two meals, plus we each get spring rolls, so turns out fair.”

I'm so sad I moved out of the area because I miss my family but I miss Sky Thai just about the same. I ate here weekly and the pad thai is the best. The calamari, spring rolls, thai iced tea and the lychee martini I recommend. My boyfriend got the red/green curry chicken everytime we went.
I want to like this place more. The ambience is nice, it's very local, and very reasonably priced. The food just hasn't done it for me. Nothing bad, just average. Only been there a few times. I will go back eventually and am optimistic that I can like this place more than I currently do.
This is a pretty good Thai restaurant that was recently added to my repertoire of places to lunch.
The menu is a bit small, lacking some of the traditional Thai dishes. It doesn't have any salads on the menu, so ordering light isn't an option.
We had:
Pad See Ew – my dining companion enjoyed it
Garlic Chicken – tasty
Lychee Iced Green Tea – delicious
The service was friendly and they got you out in less than an hour.
My go-to place for a quick Thai meal in Jersey city downtown area. The food and prices are good and service is very fast. I am a fan of their devil fried rice and drunken noodles.
The interiors and cocktails are good, the service could be friendlier ( i understand they are happier with take-ots and deliveries).Definitely a place to fix your curry and noodle craving.
*roti (meh, I think the roti itself was too dense and cold and oily; the curry was also WAY too salty; wish there was also some meat and potatoes in the curry sauce as well to make it heartier)
*chicken satay (chicken was lovely but that PEANUT SAUCE IS THE BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's not too much peanut butter and there's lot of red specks so you know they added chili to this; so luxurious sweet, salty, spicy and creamy)
*snapper (we got this filet and it's deep fried; not bad; the meat was kind of tough; the veggies on the dish were fresh and that basil sauce definitely made this dish 10x better)
*drunken noodles (yum, definitely hit the spot! i got this with tofu and they added enough tofu to feed all of Jersey City so I couldn't finish that lol)
*pad see ew (didn't taste too much different from the drunken noodles but regardless still a good dish)
How cute is this place??!! The red interior is very warm and inviting. I love the cloud design engraved in the glass along the wall and the same cloud pattern on the light covers. The bathroom smells so good. Haha. It's very dimly light but I enjoyed the candle beneath the sink. There's mirrors along the wall so you can watch yourself pee. In terms of food, it's consistently good. I would definitely return and try more stuff.. particularly their pad thai.
I work at Exchange, and am always looking for restaurants to go to with coworkers. Sky Thai is definitely a go-to at my firm. Not because they have this amazing great food, but because they're close to our building. Food is typical A-OK. A bit too saucy/sweet/salty for my taste. Prices also went up from the past years.
Tip: go after 1pm on weekdays if you don't want to wait. This spot is very popular with the firms around the Harbor.
If you want better Thai food around the area, try Sawadee at Grove.
It is generally pretty hard to mess up Thai food, so needless to say this place passes for its basic dishes: pad thai, drunken noodle, pad kew mow.
This place gets pretty busy, so if you want a table for lunch, be sure to arrive just be 12:15pm otherwise there is quite a wait. Décor and atmosphere is nice, service is relatively quick. I took off two stars for the price and the portion. The portions are tiny relative to the price. This is no fine dining so they have no reasons to charge up to $19 for a single dish. If you want to make substitutions or additions, they come at an extra cost. The lunch specials are a decent price at $8 if you get the tofu or chicken, beef or pork is $9. But if you want any of the 'specials' (so not the basics) it is over $11 all before tax and tip.
After an unsuccessful attempt tonight to find a good *sit down* Chinese restaurant near our hotel, the family and I settled on Thai food with Sky Thai. We saw some decent reviews on Yelp and other sites and took a chance since it was only 10 minutes from the hotel.
The menu holds standard Thai fare with rice, noodle, and curry options with the choices of chicken, beef, salmon, tilapia, duck and/or imitation duck as the counterpart proteins.
Once we settled inside, we noticed the nice ambiance. It's all about the candles here. On the walls. In the restrooms. On the tables. Although small in space, this place can host outside seating and large parties of six or more. We had 7 for our dinner party and our booth was very roomy. The bathrooms are kinda spooky, meaning it's very dark in there. Barely able to see.
They can accommodate small children, although there is no official children's menu. My enthusiastic 4-yr-old niece was with us.
Our waiter appeared quickly after we sat down. We ordered some appetizers. The usual suspects were chosen, including the typical Thai spring rolls filled with cabbage and carrots (2 orders) with a matching plum sauce, a nicely moist Satay with a sweet peanut sauce, and a nondescript chicken dumpling. My aunt ordered the chicken wings as her main course with a side order of jasmine rice.
From my waiter's recommendation (after he left the table and forgot to take my order so I had to reach him), I went with the pork chops with steamed vegetables. I was told it was one of the most popular dishes. A 'good' Southeast Asian restaurant has to serve a pretty good pork chop to make the criteria as a 'good' Southeast Asian restaurant. That's my opinion, at least. I was satisfied with the cut, heat, and taste. It was a nice blend of garlic and Thai pepper. Some other Asian restaurants may make them too salty or too sweet or too spicy, but the Sky version has it just right.
Other family members went with pad thai (no meat), garlic chicken (not very exciting after I took a few bites). and a sizzling pepper steak. Also chosen was the salmon in ginger sauce and duck in ginger sauce. Other than the garlic chicken, the family was satisfied with their orders. Did it knock our socks off overall / exceed our expectations? Probably not. But it did satisfy our hunger, our need for a nice sit down dinner, and our mood for something Asian.
Would I go back? Yes. I want to try their curry dishes (as well as the chicken valcano or is it chicken volcano?) and their desserts.
