  1. Women are hard to shop for. There's just no way around that fact. But for my birthday, a dear friend bought me something she knew I'd love. Something that tops my chart in my "stranded on a desert island" list. That something is beef jerky.

Knowing the gas station brand wouldn't cut it, this friend of mine scoured the internets for the best possible option in beef candy. What she found, Slant Shack Jerky based out of the rolling pastures of Jersey City, NJ. If you know anything about Jersey City, you'll probably understand "rolling pastures" loosely translates into silver-streamed skyline full to the gunwales with steaming factories. Quaint, it's not.

Nevertheless, I somehow have no trouble envisioning a little wooden shack trembling at ground level in an otherwise apocalyptic environment churning out the best in dried meat. On their dumb-friendly site, you can custom make your own jerky choosing between grass-fed beef and whiskey-fed beef. Just kidding. It's grass-fed or regular. Then you can select your marinade preference: original or hot & smokey. Then your rub: a number of options. And finally your glaze: brown sugar, spicy pepper or no glaze.

These fellas and daints have found quite the niche producing epicurean jerky.

Honestly, after 4 packs, I'm feeling a little sick, but if consumed in moderation, it's sure to feel better than a leather shoe in your stomach.

  2. Love this stuff, it is pricey but worth it! I've had the grass fed original and it was delightful.
