Whenever I drove by this place in the past I thought it was a shop of some kind–probably because of the name, and the pawn shop next door. This week I had a less than festive occasion to try this place out.
There's little to complain about in the kitchen–decent appetizers (they got the Odessa-style eggplant salad right). The dumplings and mushroom julienne are all pretty dependable, as are the kebabs, potatoes, and meat pies. The sour cherry dumplings were also pretty good as a dessert.
Service was fine during the meal. It took a while to set up, though. It looked like one man was doing the job of several, though later another waiter emerged. This was daytime and one would hope they up the staffing during night hours.
SB is a worthy entry in the category of mid-range, simple, affordable Russian cuisine.
