This place serves up a variety of slices – NY-style, margherita, grandma, and Sicilian, as well as mini calzones, various apps like meatballs (which apparently are good) and pastas, etc.
I stopped in and picked up a plain NY slice and a margherita slice to go. Servers were nice and prompt. The cheese on the margherita was a bit over cooked, sauce is pretty decent (sweet/tangy…though could use some heat), and was nice and light. I enjoyed the regular NY-style slice a bit more, had a nice amount of sauce to it, chewy crust.
I'm not sure this place has won me over from L'inizio, but will happily continue the comparison study.
Pizza was delicious however the mozzarella cheese balls were somehow near tasteless. The staff was super friendly. The patio out back was delightful. I will definitely return but only order the pizza.
Finally got to visit the highly raved about sLICe. They have couple tables inside, a couple of bar style seats. And outdoor patio seating for the days the weather is nice
Food: They offer a varity of italian eats. Strombolis, calzones, pizza rolls. I ordered 2 cheese slices $5. The pizza was good. Cheese slice was gooey and cheesy, crust was thin and foldable, the way a pizza is supposed to be. I'd score the pizza a 3.5/5 on my scale. So far the best pizza I've had in long island city. I will be back to try their pepperoni slices. I hear the beef pepperoni is really good.
Service: I was attended to right away, cashier was friendly and even helped me with my tray when I was done.
Specials free 16oz soda when you check in
Went to moma ps1 and was hungry after drinking and sunstroke. Jk. Easy to walk in at 7pm, not even half full. Grabbed my white slice and my friend grabbed his Sicilian and pepperoni slice and we headed for the shady outside seating, not sketch, literally shady. We sat at the table next to the fresh basil growing. I highly suggest doing this as I picked fresh basil to top on my pizza and it tasted and looked like heaven. This alone brought the 3 star pizza to a 4 star slice. Prices are moderate and with the Yelp check in, we got a free small fountain soda so it made the visit well worth it. Customers started filing in around 730. Staff was friendly. Access to fresh basil and outside seating made it 4. Loss of star for mediocre pizza and wobbly table.
Greasy, thin sliced and great quality pizza! The pepperoni is juicy and full of flavor. The crust is thin and crunchy.
Walking distance from the subway station and great playlist in the background. Fast service and cheap slices. Yay for new York pizza!
sLICe bills itself as LIC's neighborhood pizzeria and it has managed to accomplish that. Is it an amazing feat? Yes, considering that most places that sells a plain cheese slice at $2.50 are divey, crowded, sometimes dirty. And a clean place might not even have good pizza. Even places that sell good, regular, NY pizza don't pull off what sLICe had done. sLICe manages to look like a casual restaurant but churns out amazing pizza at gentle prices. On one side, there's the takeout counter that runs into another counter with seating facing three flat screen tvs. On the opposite side, a long brick wall painted white runs the length of the restaurant along it, spacious seating and tables. As if that weren't enticing enough, sLICe has a really cute garden outside with seating. The bathroom is also clean and spacious. There is a woman who cleans the tables and bathrooms. Please be kind to her because they don't have table service and pick up after yourself. This is no fancy pizza bar selling expensive, upscale pies and yet the ambience is as good as what you would get in a casual, artisanal pizza place in Manhattan. It's not fancy, but cute, comfortable, clean and welcoming. Most definitely a place you and friends and family would want to linger in.
And the pizza? I haven't tried anything else because the plain cheese slice is really good. The crust is thin, the cheese to sauce ratio well balanced, and the entire slice, from sauce to cheese to crust is incredibly delicious, tasting fresh and nicely seasoned. I even took sis one time, who thought it was very good but needed a tad bit more salt and gave it a 4; I thought the slice was close to perfect. A slightly crispier crust would have made it so. It's such a wonderful plain cheese slice I haven't even tried any with toppings or all the enticing calzones they sell or even the pasta there. If you don't like the fountain soda you get with your Yelp check in, they provide water at the counter for you. I'm not a soda drinker, and had the complimentary cranberry juice once with the Yelp check in that tasted weird. Now I just am grateful for the pitchers of cold water sLICe thoughtfully provides. Convince your friends to do the other borough shuffle if they are pizza lovers. You will be longing for their pizza on a weekly basis, as I do. I can't wait to try their pasta and calzones but wonder when I will since I love their pizza.
Just a note. The garden looks onto a dog run. Dogs at play are delightful, dog poo not so. But I've noticed with my visits to Queens that for some strange reason, Queens folk are not as diligent about picking up after their dogs in the two dog runs in LIC. Maybe the dog runs need to post signs up. On a breezy night, if you sit outside, you might smell something that isn't warm, delicious pizza. You have been warned.
I had the opportunity to come to sLICe for a Yelp Elite event and was pleasantly surprised. Even for a packed event, the kitchen managed to serve quality food. The pizza here is the traditional thin slice deli pizza and tastes were up to par. The sauce was just right. The sauce:cheeze ratio was also well measured. I tried a variety of items off their menu that night such as chicken parm hero, cheese slice, mozzarella balls and garlic bread and they were all tasty. If you are a LIC local and live close by, I would definitely check this place out.
I was around the neighborhood to check out the LIC Springs! with my best friend and we realized its not one of those block parties with food vendors except for the long donut line. I suggested to grab lunch at sLICe since I already tried their pizza and other items on the menu at my Elite events. First I ordered my best friend's Cheese Slice with the guy managing the pizza area and I got Pasta Your Way $7.00 (Rigatoni + Hearty Bolognese sauce + Meatballs *toppings $4.00* with a garlic stick *very tasty* sorry no picture because mama like bread yo) with the cashier *so any food order from the kitchen has to be place with the cashier*! I saw the Yelp check-in for a free small fountain soda late but I already got a coke and Welch Grape Soda..will save it for my next visit.
There was a miscommunication and they packed my order to-go but I still dine-in as it was super windy today. The bolongese was definitely hearty with a lot of meat in the tomato sauce and the 3 meatballs were huge *one of my favorite and also their mozzarella balls mmmm*
Very fulfilling as I had to take the rest home with me!
