Spot is pretty awesome. IMO it's conveniently located outside the bustling city on 25th Street where it tends to be pretty quiet all the time. However, if you know this street well enough like I do, you'll notice that there is a lot going on in the buildings. This tends to be my hang out after I get out of classes at Manhattan Prep and it seems like there is always sports being played on the TV but mainly soccer. Although many Americans don't watch soccer for the rest of the soccer fans out there, this is your joint. Nevertheless, it's a spot you can't go wrong with. Nothing too fancy, nothing too crazy. Just a sit back and relax bar.
Came here to watch one of the NBA playoffs. The place was pretty large and had a lot of TVs so we were set. The food was pretty good but not great. I really liked my mac and cheese with bacon and the fries they have but everything else was pretty average. I would advise in not ordering their veggie sides cause it was super bland. we had the asparagus side dish (you know, for health) and it randomly came with mushrooms even though that wasn't in the description.
They do have a nice selection of beer though so that kept us happy.
Overall, a good place to get a drink and watch the game, but would not go just for the food.
P.S. the bouncer is HUGE. like if you're feeling angsty and need to pick a fight, DO NOT do it here cause this dude is a mountain.
Smithfield is a great bar that I'd like to return to one day. The service was prompt (thanks to the waitress for letting us know we had 3 minutes left in the happy hour!), I enjoyed a tasty house ale, and a salmon dish (which comes with butternut squash and asparagus) that undoubtedly sets the place in a higher tier when it comes to bar food. Everyone in my group enjoyed our meals.
The establishment is surprisingly spacious – it's maybe twice as big as you'd expect from the outside. The downside to this however is that it gets very noisy from all the people you can cram in there. But hey, at least the loudness is coming from people having a good time rather than music/TV's. Smithfield is split into two sections (the bigger section is the one you enter through), so I'd suggest requesting in the smaller section if you'd like a quieter experience.
If you are futbol fan or soccer or football however you want to call it, smithfield should be your top 3 bar in the city. I'm pumped that I came here for the champions league final. The place is alive, loud and best of all plenty of TVs to watch the game from every angle.
The service was great even though the place was jam-packed. I ordered an Allagash White but I never got to me. No big deal. 20 min later the waitress came back and I mentioned I never got my beer. She apologized and said "This one is on me." I guess she was genuinely sorry and wanted to provide a good customer experience.
The guac we had to share was not bad but the chips were a little stale.
In conclusion I would return here for the huge selection of craft beer and enjoy a soccer match.
It's true! The best happy hour deal in town. On Monday it is till closing!!!!!!
Ordered some food w the drinks: $10 pull pork sandwiches, and $10 Mac and cheese – both good, pulled pork was better than expected.
Would def come back for happy hour drinks 🙂
I enjoyed coming here with my family during a trip to New York. The service is great – starting from when I called to make a reservation. The manager let me know that there would be a soccer game on at 3pm, so depending on how the game went it might be tough to clear a table for us at 5pm. I appreciated his candor, and our group decided to chance it and head over at 5pm. When we got there the place was packed, but the game ended and it cleared out. By the end of our meal, we literally had a whole side of the restaurant to ourselves!
The food was fantastic! I had the chicken with waffles, which arrived warm and was perfectly crispy. Between our group of 5, we tried the steak, fish and chips, onion rings, calamari and roasted veggies (for my vegan sister). Everyone enjoyed their meal, and those of us who tried the Smithfield Lager enjoyed that too.
I love the atmosphere, food and service here!
I liked it here because it was different.
I liked it here because it felt exclusive.
I liked it here because the hostess and security were on point.
I liked it here because the food was pretty good.
I liked it here because of the venue and vibe.
I liked it here because the drinks were strong, old-school like.
I also like the name of the place. It's different.
I'm coming back here again.
I really teetered on 2 stars, but the bartender was friendly and they had a decent beer selection. We were going to Gotham Comedy club around the corner and there's not much else around with a solid 4 stars but man this was disappointing.
We sat at the bar, it's just a run of the mill sports bar, and it is absolutely a "bro" bar. Obnoxious 23 year old bros forcing themselves at the giant bar that had plenty of room. This was a bit of a turnoff for me personally.
The food, we of course started with the Jameson wings, they were good, not amazing, but good. They were definitely the highlight of the meal for me. I ordered a burger and the wife the turkey burger. They were meh at best. Mine just wasn't good, had no flavor and was just kinda boring. The patty looked like a frozen preformed patty. So I question a lot of the rave reviews of the burgers here, the turkey burger had the same appearance. There are a lot better places with a lot better burgers out there.
The bartender was very friendly and on the spot I will give them that, and like I said the wings were good. Overall though, it's just an average sports bar and I probably won't be back.
