Smooch
“devoid of hipster self righteousnes vibe, this actually cool little spot has really good food, beer and a hilarious menu.”
“They whipped me up a salad with whatever they had left and I had a muffin and soy latte to complete my meal since that was all they had.”
“Started with an ice latte on a bench out in the front, and then got onto the white wine along with some really nice company in the front window.”

The cups of coffee here are not HUGE by any means as the other yelpers claim. They are small in my opinion. It IS tasty and the food is actually really good, but the staff is a very odd breed. They stand around talking loudly about social issues and politics and then get annoyed and breathe heavily when you want to order something. I had my mac sitting on the table as we were talking and the guy who brought my coffee over carelessly sat it down fast so he could get back to his conversation and it was slid across the table and almost spilled over on my computer. Even when you are consistently ordering food and drinks while having a lunch meeting they act like you are pushing their buttons by asking for another drink. My boss and I met here every week for a while until the service became too painful to bear. The final straw was upon leaving my meeting I took my dishes to the counter and told them that my boss said she was closing out the tab, but was going to have another drink before paying. She waived when I pointed her out. I left, walked 1/2 way down the block and some older guy runs up behind me yelling "excuse me?? are you going to pay your bill???". I was like "I JUST told you my boss was closing out the bill, she's still inside". He said nothing and walked back to the shop.
Stopped by for a nice cup of iced coffee, not bad. Place was a little stuffy like it needed some air conditioning or maybe some febreze.
Service was friendly and prompt.
I discovered Vegenaise here and I must admit that 'ish is freakin' delicious. You crafty vegans have been holding out. Had a lovely sandwich with grilled tofu, lettuce, Vegenaise and tomato.
There's comfy seating while you work on your laptop.
The menu just irritated me because I had to read really long names, such as the "Let's be Nice to Everyone Except the Assholes Who've Trashed Us on Yelp Sandwich of Harmony." I then had to read the really long description right below to figure out what was in the sandwich.
So, guilty (raising hand). I am one of the assholes you speak of.
I ordered a glass of wine and was kind of appalled at the greasy-dusty film on the outside of the glass.
I saw the owner (I'm guessing) tasting some of the food that he was casually mixing with his bare hands.
One night, a big and excited dog was roaming around and it rushed to greet me as I opened the door. Again, no one cared.
Basically, I get a very strong "come if you want, don't if you don't want to" vibe from Smooch.
But dang, that sandwich was good.
Lunch at Smooch on a weekday was thoroughly enjoyable. At first glance it seemed that eating there was going to be a challenge but right away the staff made us welcome and comfortable. Every table was occupied by a single laptop user, but everyone was gracious when 4 of them were politely asked to share tables and free up space for my group of 3 to sit together. Hipster, yes; attitude, no! We had a Vegan Temptress sandwich, Sultry sandwich and Voluptuous Vixen salad (LOVE these names!), and coffee — a little pricey, but I'm willing to pay more for such fresh, organic and delicious food. The food is prepared behind the front counter, and we could watch how carefully and lovingly each dish was made. I will remember my dish (Temptress) for two outstanding flavors: the vinaigrette on the side greens, and the hearty bread which, even by itself with nothing on it, would be a treat.
A cool place. Great menu with lots of vegetarian options. Outside seating. Beautiful plates. Friendly staff.
Smooch has delicious drinks and vegan food. I ordered a sandwich when I went. I can't remember which one exactly, but it had tofu on it and the bread was great. I like that they have wine so I can relax and enjoy my food. There isn't much seating, so I can imagine finding a spot can be a competitive sport during busy hours. The man behind the counter was slightly testy and seemed moderately confused about the menu items in a way that absolutely did not arouse empathy.
A very chill coffee shop on a quiet street right next to Fort Greene Park. No pretentions, very laid back, and a nice interior. Good coffee (La Colombe) and a good cookie! Nothing super special, though.
What an awesome oasis of peace in Fort Green! Smooch feels like a bodega in Havana from the outside and Eames's living room from the inside with comfy leather seats and different shades of wooden browns all around.
Pascuali is the chef has a super friendly demeanor! He lived in Cuba for over a year so when he found out I was Cuban, we bonded over his travels to my homeland and he recommended I order the Cortadito (a traditional Cuban coffee drink: smaller than a cappuccino, bigger than a macchiato). My drink was delicious! I was there celebrating with friend's and treated them to their brews as well. Four perfectly concocted brews (a latte, a capuccino, a chai-latte and a cortadito) ran me $15! Not bad at all.
$1 laptop charge if you want to use your computer and Internet. Free glass bottles of room-temperature water for your table. Did not order the food but it looked amazing and fresh. Menu was creatively written and all the items listed were described with eloquence and a strong sense of humor. Breakfast foods and sandwiches dominate the pages though the few salads listed looked appetizing.
The crowd was hipster. Young professionals with Apple computers and no day jobs, self-employed entrepreneurs launching Internet businesses, college students working on midterm essays, short-haired moms with long-haired little hipsters in training running around everywhere, all crowded the tables and benches.
Cafe was hip but not pretentious or hard, rather mellow and unassuming.
Barista's locks, grace and smile made peace with the serenity of the sunny afternoon.
On sunny days there's outdoor benches for seating.
Hotties working away on their laptops entice my hormones. Ambiance of peace and productivity calms me down as I sip my magical brew over conversations with friend's under shady trees, next to the backdrop of Brooklyn's brownstones.
