Smorgasburg

“My particular top choices are AsiaDog, Red Hook Lobster Pound, and Landhaus.”

“I did some research and Pizza Moto apparently has been a mobile pizza joint making pizzas in a portable brick oven for the past 7 years.”

“Landhaus: I've only had the pleasure of trying the maple bacon stick and the mint lemonade.”

  1. I tried the ham & grilled cheese sandwich from Milk Truck. It was surprisingly really good. Took a while for food to come out as there was a line, but I was impressed. I really enjoyed the setting at the seaport. Also a bit pricey for a grilled sandwich, but I am glad I tried it, as it was delicious.

Definitely go for a sandwich with an additional topping, the Ham and mustard additions were a winner.

  2. I tried the tacos stand the other night and it was really good! Tacos are a bit pricy $4/5.50 but they are really full of ingredients like rarely happens. I got a $5 crispy fish and a $5.50 crispy shrimp with guacamole and sour cream. Delicious!

I also got a beer at the main bar and my server was really nice and chatty.

  3. I absolutely love this place for the variety, restrooms and bar. I typically stop for wings and fries from the Frites place. Food is always pretty quick and hot! The only downside is there is absolutely nowhere to charge your phone. A hall this big should have an outlet or two. Typically people coming here are en route to somewhere else afterwards, meeting friends, etc. It would be nice to top on to make sure you can get in contact with them, if necessary. Other than that, two thumbs up over here

  4. Came to south street seaport's smorgasborg and there were many options, we opted for Home Frite which is located inside of the food court there are 6 food vendors inside with a bar inside and outside, there is plenty of seating inside and outside, now for the food we had the truffle Parmesan wings which were awesome and had good flavor (not salty) and the original fries in which you pick your sauce, we got curry ketchup and the fries were perfect and was actually a big serving that two people could split, overall the prices were good and I enjoyed the area

  5. It is a nice gathering place to bring people who are new to the city and since the port is closed for renovation. However I find it to be easier to just pick a restaurant , since the lines are ridiculous, the price is a little steep for small amount of food, and if you have friends that need to sit to eat…..forget about. DO NOT PASS GO AND DO NOT COLLECTED $200 AND FIND A RESTAURANT TO SIT. Personally, I prefer the one in Brooklyn, much more variety, but I can understand why it is setup here. Great tourist attraction and a nice view of the port's surrounding.

  6. Variety is the spice of life. Well you'll find that here. Sweet options like Wowfulls and savory options like Lumpia Shack and Home Frites. There is a bar in here. I didn't partake but it's there for you if you want. Lots of cafeteria tables.

The doors are left open during the nice weather so the mosquitoes might get cha.

They have a foosball table so fun for your mouth and your wrists.

I think that the restaurants inside change so I will be back to check out what's inside and available. You could too.

  7. Cool oasis on a scorching summer day after work.

The bar inside had a good selection of beers for $6 and some pretty decent coctails for $12. The bartenders are a little surly though. Maybe they weren't having a good day…or week…or life. Fortunately, I don't chat up bartenders so I was ok.
My favorite was the Whisky Lemonade, nice punch to it. Smogasborg Ricky was nothing special, actually rather forgettable as I think about it 3 days later. The Summer Coctail was a really refreshing mix of watermelon, peach and some kind of alcohol. Couldn't really taste the alcohol, but it was a nice fruity drink. Not really worth $12

Now to the food. Really great selection in here.

I had the Truffle Fries from the Home Frites place. Wow. Some of the best truffle fries I've ever had and it was a sharable size. I couldn't even finish it all.

Fletcher's Brooklyn BBQ served up a pulled pork sandwich with slaw and a bag of chips. I'm told the sandwich was awesome and tasty, but the slaw was a tasteless side that wasn't needed.

Red Hook Lobster was the worst of the places we tried. 6 on a Friday evening they were out of Ceasar Salad. No problem, I ordered the salty dog with slaw for $7. Although the menu clearly states WITH SLAW, I got a soggy bun with a split dog on it. No slaw. I didn't care about the bread cause I'm not a bread eater BUT $7 to basically just it the dog itself was a total waste for me. Thank goodness for the large, delicious truffle fries.

I'll be giving Red Hook Lobster a pass next time.

  8. I like the whole concept of this place! I love the location. It's a perfect summer spot for those who want to enjoy the seaport or a happy hour spot for those who work close by in FiDi. I've tried the hot buttery lobster roll and the ramen burger, both of which are very tasty (but perhaps not too great if you're trying to get that summer body).

I wished there were more vendors for sweets (ice cream, yogurt, etc.). Also, although this place stays open late during the summers, a lot of vendors tend to run out of food before 8, so time your visit properly.
