Tranquil escape from the noise and dust of HK/midtown! What a great find while a friend and I were looking for something to eat late on a Wednesday.
The service was great, and the waitress was very helpful in explaining items on the menu, many of which are their interpretation of classic Greek dishes or style of dishes.
We ordered 3 items to share, and all were delicious! The dip sampler is great, especially for us since we couldn't decide on just one. The calamari salad was refreshing, and the veal meatballs were hearty as expected!
Snack Eos is where I spent my birthday dinner at and I couldn't have chosen a better place.
Picture it…two cold, starving California girls walking around Hell's Kitchen searching for the perfect place to celebrate. They figured they couldn't go wrong in Hell's Kitchen with the plethora of restaurants.
Yelp was consulted repeatedly as they stopped in front of different restaurants, "What about this one?" Some restaurants had weak ratings, others didn't sound appealing. They couldn't waste a birthday dinner on just any place. Then they came along Snack Eos. It looked appealing from the outside, ratings were great, and ::gasp:: it was Greek/Mediterranean !! Winner, winner!
Upon entering the establishment the first thing asked was "Do you have a reservation?" Initially we feared we would be rebuffed when we answered "No" . We weren't and we were seated immediately.
Our server was Michael and he was amazing! He was attentive, funny, and very prompt with our service. We ordered an appetizer, a salad, a main dish, and dessert.
Before our appetizer arrived, Michael came along with an amuse bouche of celery root soup in a shot glass. It was so amazingly delicious and it surpassed any expectation. Well done chef.
Next came our appetizer of tzatziki. I don't know if I've ever tasted a creamier or more delicious tzatziki and I've had this simple appetizer so many times. It was creamy and incredibly flavorful. It was served with toasted pita bread. We ran out of the pita bread quickly and our server quickly brought out more, and he wasn't stingy!
Then came our salads. I had the roasted beets and gigantes which had candied walnuts and skordalia. I love roasted beet salad and the gigantes were a perfect accompaniment. I don't think I left a leaf of arugula behind.
For the main course I chose a small plate and went with Shrimp "Santorini", it came with tomatoes, feta, and horta. The picture does not do it justice! It was incredibly savory and flavorful, the ouza scented tomatoes gave the shrimp the perfect taste.
I almost didn't have room for dessert but I took one glance at the menu and had to try the warm vanilla rice pudding! I'm a big fan of rice pudding , it's one of the many desserts I grew up with in my Mexican-American household. I'm so glad I made an allowance for the rice pudding. It was so perfect! The pine nuts and apricot were the perfect add on to this dessert.
I have to add that since it was my birthday, my friend mentioned it a few times and requested that Michael sing me happy birthday. I didn't want the attention, so I sheepishly said "No! No. Please don't! This isn't Olive Garden!" And he jokingly said "I can't sing anyway!". When Michael brought out the desserts , he brought them out with a candle on each plate AND he sang happy birthday to me. Michael actually sings well! We asked him to take a picture of us and he took a selfie with us ! Michael was so much fun. He truly made my birthday night special.
The food was amazing, my friend agreed to this. There was no "but" or exception. Everyone single plate delivered and exceeded our expectations. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was perfect. It was a nice, intimate setting. I really wish that I lived closer to NYC because Snack Eos would definitely be one of my favorite places to dine.
Good size and decent price, but it felt like I was gasping for air in the Dead Sea–THE FOOD IS HERE IS SO SALTY! Did the chef salt my food over 3 times by accident? I guess that made the omelette tastier than usual, but the salad, side veggies, sandwich, and even potato mash were so hard to finish. Really not sure why this place has good ratings.
The menu is your typical brunch menu made more sophisticated. From truffled eggs to mouth watering pancakes there's something for everyone.
No line on a Sunday morning brunch, which was wonderful! But I don't think it will stay this way for long, you can tell this place is about to be very popular, the food is just too good!
The staff is super friendly, they show they truly care about their costumers and reputation.
Tip: the restaurant is located on the corner between 39th and 9th, the door is on 9th, harder to notice since the whole side is made of wood, not the most visible entrance
Great lunch spot, I will come back to try their dinner menu.
To celebrate my coworker's birthday, our boss decided to join us for lunch (and paid for it, woot), we thought we'd go for Mediterranean because I've been craving for good pita and hummus. EOS definitely did not disappoint.
I made a reservation on OpenTable, very easy, the table was set up prior to our arrival. What a nice space! It's got a wooden interior, modern and minimalistic design, the staff was helpful. We each ordered the lamb boureki, grilled 8oz burger, lamb burger, salmon skewers and tuna skewers. My boureki pie was crispy on the outside and steaming hot inside, the minced lamb and beef together made miracles. I didn't love the salad too much because it's too sour, but the side rice was pretty good. The burgers are huge and they look super yummy, whereas the skewer platters were well presented. My coworkers said it's very good.
My house minty lemonade is a must have.
TRY the appetizer sampler dip, it's got 3 different flavors of hummus, their pita is warmed to perfection and it has a soft texture, not too chewy. All 3 flavors go well with the pita. I wish I had room for dessert, but then again, I'll come back for either brunch or dinner. A good glass of white wine will be perfect with their meals.
Wanted to try this place but their regular dinner menu is expensive, so went over for the much more affordable brunch. Early Saturday afternoon and plenty of seating available.
Like the deals on brunch drinks. Got a Bloody Mary ($6) and Saganaki ($10) to start, then the Braised Pork & Eggs ($12) for the entree. The bloody mary is certainly large, so you get some bang for the buck there. The problem is that the drink was mostly pepper. A huge amount of it settled at the bottom and even with a bunch of stirring it comes out to be overwhelming. The saganki appetizer is essentially fried cheese with chili paste on top .The cheese is super greasy, but using the lemon provided to cut the oil helps out with the taste. The chili sauce on top isn't spicy at all.
Best part of the meal was the pork and eggs. A large bowl filled with pork stew with two poached eggs, and cornbread. The meat had that right kind of flavor that creates a hearty broth, which is soaked well into the cornbread. The eggs add a different element to the meal, but one egg was runny while the other was not quite hard boiled.
All in all the meal experience here is okay. Our server seemed to be new so he forgot a couple things, though was fast with all the food and drinks. Tremendous value for brunch depending on what you get.
More like a 3.5 in my books, but if you're ever in the area looking for some good brunch'in, this place is not too shabby!
Couldn't have my brunch without a Bloody Mary to start and a Mimosa to end. Definitely loved the savory taste of the peppery tomato juice and both drinks had the right amount of alcohol to put me into place.
For food we shared the Avgolemono soup, Lamb Boureki, and a Grilled 8oz Burger between us. All were incredibly savory and delicious with the right amount of seasonings, especially the burger which was a perfect medium rare – it just made me want to inhale the whole thing up!
Despite being one table out of three that day, the service was slow and inattentive. Pretty sure the bartender turned into the waiter at some point even though he was busy making drinks for the few patrons at the bar. We had to sort of had to flag him down for water and at the end, stood up to get our check. Luckily we weren't in any rush, making the experience pretty relaxed for me.
Came here with my coworkers for lunch and every single person was satisfied with their food. The service is awesome there as well. My coworkers ordered the lamb burger, grilled chicken burger, sea bass, and grilled chicken beast. One of my coworker took a bite out of it and could not stop raving how great it was. Haha, so that was definitely really good.
I tried my other coworkers grilled chicken breast and it was good. The chicken was not dry and well made.
The sea bass was super good also! However, the only disliking I had was the lemon dressing. I personally did not really like the lemon dressing that much because the lemon taste was sooo strong and overwhelming that I could not really taste the sea bass, but overall the sea bass was delicious.
I ordered the snack box which is different every time because you have to ask the server what is in it the day of. My snack box had the salmon skewer with farro, salad and pita bread. I was really full by the time I finished my plate, but I did not feel disgustingly full which is awesome. All the food made me feel healthy while eating it, haha.
Overall, it was a great experience and great food :D!
