  1. Limited Menu, decent prices.  I was dining solo on the way home from work, so I really had to choose between soondubu or bibimbap. I went with Seafood Soondubu.    Their Banchan was great, and they were more than happy to refill the pickles, kincki, sprouts or fish cake.   I also got hot stone rie on the side.    The Soondubu had about 2 shrimp, 3 clams and some mussels.   Next time I'd like to dine ther ewith a group and order many kinds of soondubu and bibimbap.  No alcohol, not sure about BYOB,  but the quality of the food and service was top notch.

  2. I personally prefer this place over its competitor, BCD tofu house. I think their soup tastes better and I love that they have the perilla seed option, bc I'm obsessed with the texture and flavor it adds. So glad this is close to my house. Love love loveee

Their service is also exceptionally quick, as with most Korean restaurants.

  3. This is a pretty good place for Korean food… i mean there are not many place for Korean food around the area, so So Gong Dong Tofu quickly become one of the better one… the menu is pretty "small"compare to those big Korean restaurant in Fort Lee… but they have a decent selection… they have your usual seafood pancake, and beef ribs… they have soondubu with your choice of meat and rice, noodle, or ramen (which is a first because usually they come with just rice)… than Bibimbap… (FYI: hot stone cost more, but taste so much better)…
AND if you go there for lunch… they are couple dollar cheaper too… so, if i were you, go there for lunch!!! 🙂

  4. I tried the So Gong Dong Tofu and Barbeque for lunch with a few work colleagues. I never had Korean food before but was very impressed!

To start our table was given hot water and complimentary apps of kimchi, pickled cucumbers, sprouts, tofu, and bamboo shoots. I really liked the tangy flavor of the bamboo shoot.

Our group ordered a few dishes for the table to share. Bibimbop was the extent of my Korean food knowledge. This was my favorite dish which came with rice, carrots, cucumbers, sprouts, and egg. If you're looking for a healthy dish this is one to go with.

I would say my spice level tolerance is intermediate. The spicy chicken bulgogi was not too hot and enjoyable. Short ribs were another highlight as they were nice and tender slices. The soondubu jjigae (a soup made with seafood and tofu and ramen) was excellent and something I would definitely order again. I enjoyed the seafood pancake too.

Pro Tip: Throw a napkin in your shirt collar as you may be splashing with the noodles. Out of my party of 6, half left with a little something on their shirts!

  5. I'm usually wary of places that seem 'overhyped' by its popularity, but SGD has earned its rightful place as one of the top soondubu restaurants in the area.

One thing that I love about SGD is that they serve their rice in the stone bowls. I'm a fan of the crispy rice that I have to scrape off the sides of the stone bowls. Usually most of the soondubu restaurants in the area serve their rice in hot metal bowls so I never get this 'old-school' style anymore. Thanks SGD for being different!

We tried the seafood pancake which is easily the best in the area. Holds together well but is incredibly fluffy. Some seafood pancakes are too rubbery/dense but SGD's version features really light batter.

We didn't try the kalbi this time, but saw others order it and the portion is large compared SGD's competitors.

Some downsides: no reservations during weekend dinner, no lunch pricing on weekends, and no crabmeat soondubu. Also we went at 11 am (opening time) but they were not ready to serve us, saying that we would have to wait 15 mins for the rice to be ready. But other than that everything else was good.

  6. SGD is really the main place to go for your Korean food craving if driving to Edison or Fort Lee isn't an option for you. Their menu is small, but provides enough variety. I recommend stopping by early or during the off hours on the weekends, because it will be packed. The staff here are super friendly and welcoming. That alone deserves five stars in my book.

Soondubujjigae with Mandu: You get three large, nicely stuffed mandu in your pot of spicy tofu heaven. The mandu were tender and flavorful, while the tofu was nice and silky. I asked for "regular spicy," and found that to be the right amount of heat; there are five levels of spiciness available. For my side, I went with rice in the hot stone bowl. You could get ramen or kalguksu.

We also ordered pork soondubujjigae and pork bibimbap. I did not taste either one, but the bibimbap was said to be flavorful even without the spice red sauce they give you. I'm not big on banchan, but there was a solid variety. SGD also serves kalbi, pajeon, and some side dishes. If I'm coming back for anything, it would be for the soondubu for sure.

  7. Awesome to have found a soondubu joint in the area. Although we expected more from this place, it wasn't so bad. The pajun was too soggy and fell apart at every bite. The soondubu was good, but the tofu wasn't as silky as I hoped it would be. However, the flavor was okay. I'd be back if I was hankering for a nice hot meal.

  8. This Korean place has been here for a long time. It is still a favorable place for lunch after the new buffet next door. The owner and staffs have kept this place super clean. Like most of Korean restaurant, many pots were cut in half and were mounted on the wall. The other side of wall is covered with ancient literature in Korean. However, if you pay attention, you will find that they are the repeat of only two sentences.

Anyhow, the food is typical Korean style you can find in most peers. Before you are served with your order, you will be given complimentary kimchi dishes, many of them. Many menu items are promoting tofu. You can find a description about health benefit of soy and tofu, printed on the table paper. Surprisingly, the words are very accurate in a scientific way, which we'll demonstrate how good soy-based food is good for your body.

Overall, it is a very delight place with friend staff and heart-warming food.
