Finally decided to check out Social 59 after a last minute decision on Friday night and I am so happy I did.
The minute we walked into the establishment we were greeted by the most friendly server I think I have ever had. Cristian gets 5 stars for his superb and attentive service the entire night. Cristian along with other staff members came to check on us numerous times.
On the main floor they have a tiny bar with what turns into a small dance floor (nothing crazy) after hours. The highlight of this section is the gigantic screen TV that can be seen from anywhere you sit in the restaurant. For sports fans like myself this is the best place to go to watch a game.
Upstairs is where the dining experience begins. The colors surrounding the dining area are very dark and sets the mood for intimacy or just a fun night out. Red uplighting followed by accents of a light colored wood balance it out nicely.
The signature cocktail menu was very impressive. Based on other yelp reviews I ordered the Social Kiss $12. Such a refreshing drink. The minute I tasted it I immediately thought of sipping on this champagne mix during a nice brunch. Although some might be taken back by the price, I would rather spend $12 on a good quality drink then a traditional watered down one.
The menu is a representation of all Latin cultures. Everything from appetizers, entrees, to desserts has a taste from a different Latin country. For starters we ordered the empanadas which were made Colombian style (stuffed and made out of potato and corn filling rather than flour). These were really good and crunchy. Came with 3 and a choice of beef, chicken, or shrimp.
Dinner….my favorite part of the evening. The Pork Shank Pernil $17 was unlike any pernil I have ever tasted. The presentation itself came out with such creativity it made me so excited to take a bite. It really showed how hard the kitchen worked to make this a dish to remember. The pernil comes on the bone with a side of yellow rice, black beans, and tostones (you can substitute for maduros). The meat fell right off the bone…literally. Each part of this pork was juicy, seasoned to perfection, and extremely tender. The cuero (skin) was not overly cooked but had just the right amount of crunch. The only sad part about this whole ordeal was I was too stuffed to finish my meal.
Everyone at Social 59 was so pleasant and I cannot wait to come back again. If you live in the area and have been looking for places like this please go check it out. I know I will be again soon.
I have to start by saying I'm shocked! I read the reviews and was very skeptical, to say the least. I have been saying that the neighborhood needs a place like this for years. So happy this place opened!
We came in for a pre mothers day dinner. The drink menu prices were a little high for the area but not too crazy, around $12 each. The apps were around $9. We tried the sliders, honey bbq wings, tostones with churassco and a side of crispy parm potatoes. The food was really tasty especially the wings. The potatoes weren't crispy but still delicious. Someone I was with had the cucumber social kiss- gin, lemon, champagne and cucumber and loved it. Everyone commented how unique the cocktail menu was for the neighborhood.
The ambiance was ultra trendy. Nice tvs, industrial feel and new music- we heard everything from drake/future to old salsa and even some house music.
It was not crowded which I am sure will change once people find out about this place! The service was also amazing. Our waiter was so friendly and sweet. He felt like an old friend and was so excited to talk about the restaurant! Two other people checked on us to see how we were enjoying our meal and struck up conversation about where we were from and the future plans for the restaurant.
It was all impressive! There is a outside patio in the back. I cannot wait to come back with friends
Please support, we need to give business to places like this!!!
