  1. I was in the area for the weekend, and I used Yelp to find an Indian lunch buffet close to the hotel where I was staying. Sonu Da Dhaba was not only the closest but the best rated in the area. I have to say I agree. I enjoyed the lunch buffet. In general, I like trying the food (especially the buffets) in the Edison area in general because of the variety, especially of Northern Indian cuisine. I consider the price, $10.99, to be very reasonable for the selection, plus fresh hot naan was brought to our table. We were unfamiliar with some of the dishes on the buffet, but several times we said, "I don't know just quite what this is, but I like it."  Instead of a tandoori chicken offering, they had a "tandoori meat" selection, with chicken, sausage and goat, as well as a goat dish. The goat was among the best quality I have sampled, very moist and considerably fewer bones. Service was great too. When I'm in the area again, I'll be back.

  2. Very good lunch buffet–choice of 4 kinds of chicken, plus veg options, for $8.95.

One oddity–one of the chicken dishes was on the bone, yet no knives were provided.

    Nice folks; simple surroundings; BYO.

  3. Accidentally discovered this place after being put off by the wait at the near-by Jose Texas. Its a buffet style Indian restaurant for around $13 a person. Can't complain about portions when you can keep going back for more. I didn't really make use of the buffet all that much though since as soon as I saw chicken korma I went straight for that. The korma was creamy and loaded with big pieces of chicken. For dessert we had this sweet white broth whose name I can't remember, and some fruit. It was all delicious.

All in all not a bad lunch spot.

  4. A Dhaba is a restaurant that's located right off the freeway in India that also doubles up as a truck stop. Given the fact that I've had some of the best meals at Punjabi Dhabas in India, I was pretty excited when my wife mentioned that we should try and hit up Sonu Da Dhaba this weekend with the entire family. We got here early on Saturday evening and to our surprise we weren't the first ones for dinner.

We ordered the Vegetable Kabab, Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Lollipop for appetizers along with three soups (Mulligatawny, Tomato and Sweet Corn). The soups were light and flavorful with Indian spices in the mix. The Chicken Tandoori and Chicken Lollipop had the same marinade and tasted exactly the same which was disappointing. In fact if we were to pick between the two, we'd vote for the Tandoori over the Lollipop because the latter was a little overdone and dry. The vegetable kabab had minced vegetables and tapioca pearls battered and cooked like a seekh kabab on skewers. It was an interesting take on a "veggie kabab".

For the main course, we ordered two home style dishes that Punjab is synonymous for "Sarson Da Saag with Makki Di Roti" and "Punjabi Kadhi Pakodi with Rice" which were featured on the Dhaba special menu along with Palak Mushroom, Dal Makhani, Chicken Makhani and an assortment of breads.

All the main course dishes were pretty tasty and had a home made touch to them. The breads were soft and had a big schmear of butter on them. But the star of the meal was definitely the Kadhi. Simple but very flavorful and high on comfort factor. HIghly recommend this dish if you plan to eat here.

Overall this place serves some really good food and I guess a lot of people know it because it was packed by the time we were getting ready to leave around 7:30pm. Definitely one of the better Punjabi restaurants in the tri-state area.

  5. This little place was a nice surprise.
A large menu full of Indian dishes is on display for guests. Each dish can be prepared in mild medium and spicy to suit your liking.
They serve lamb, chicken &  fish with a variety of Indian spices. I ordered chicken mango which was very good, fish curry which was tasty, A side of rice (which unfortunately doesn't come with the meal), And A cottage cheese spinach vegetable side.

All the dishes were extremely tasty. The chicken could have been slightly hotter in temperature but overall I was very happy and would come again.

  6. Absolutely horrendous experience. Their fire alarm went off due to their fajita style plates, proper fire evacuation measures were not followed, the Fire Marshall came and finally turned off the alarm and the management team was not even courteous as to comment on the horrible encounter. Avoid at all costs.

  7. I typically do not seek out Indian/Pakistan food places to eat at. It's food I grew up with, so it holds no fascination for me, not to mention nothing can EVER compare to mom's home cooked meal! 😉

However, my cousin recently moved not far from here & they were in the mood for it so found this place on Yelp & we decided to give it a try. Overall, a satisfying experience.

The place is simple, no frills but clean, family-friendly, BYOB….good service….food was pretty good & reasonably priced.
