We were pleasantly surprised when we ordered from Sophie's! The food was extremely good.
We ordered:
Chicken Empanada – okay, not my favorite
Spinach and Cheese Empanada – delicious
Cuban Sandwich – delicious
Roast Turkey – terrific, we should have ordered 2 orders
Shrimp with Garlic Sauce – good but not great
Tres Leches Cake – tasty
Sweet Plantains – very good
White & Yellow rice – very good
Avocado with White Beans – delicious
We will definitely order again.
Huge fan. I was really skeptical of this place because it looked a little too "fancy" for an authentic Cuban place, with its trendy tiles and rustic looking decor. When I walked in, there were three lines separated by the type of food one was looking for (ie sandwiches, entrees, etc.). Well done.
I decided to get the entree of the day, which was a choice of chicken or beef stew. I chose the beef stew (large). This cost me $11, and included 3 sides. They have a variety of great sides. I got the avocado bean salad, yellow rice for the stew, and fried sweet plantains. They really packed a large amount into the takeout tupperware. I was impressed.
As for the beef stew, it was excellent. Large, tender blocks of beef with potatoes. Very hearty and delicious over the rice. The avocado salad was cold and delicious. The plantains were great too.
This place is a great place to get delicious food that is fast and well-priced. You will not feel hungry if you order and entree. Next time I will try a sandwich I think!
Came here to pick up one of their Cuban sandwiches for lunch at work. This place was empty when I got here which surprised me since everyone says how it's really crowded during the lunch rush. Decor is very spacious and clean and servers were all really nice. I got my sandwich in under 5 minutes! As for the taste of the sandwich itself, I thought it was alright. It has mayo, ham, cheese, and pickles (sour) in it so it kind of reminded me of a Reuben sandwich. It also has pork in it too but it didn't really add any amazing flavors to the sandwich.
Overall, I would say that the Cuban sandwich was alright. It wasn't anything mind blowing but it wasn't bad tasting either. It was a little pricy though (~$9). I heard the entrees are good though so I look forward to coming back here and giving those a try.
I'm not going to come back. I ordered my usual (pernil/roast pork entree with yellow rice, sweet plaintains, mixed vegetables) and had stomach issues for 2 days after eating half of it, and it happened fairly soon after ingesting my meal. I compared the other foods I ate that day with the symptoms of my fiancé, who was fine since the only thing we ate different that day was my meal from this Sophie's. I don't know if someone didn't wash their hands while preparing food or whatnot but it was a terrible experience. It's unfortunate because I frequent (or used to) this establishment often for lunch. UGH.
The taste of the food is amazing here but the situation when it gets packed is very confusing.. I ordered pernil with a twist and ended up getting chicken cutlet with a twist which was someone elses order.. It was still delicious so no complaints in that department.. They need to brush up their service.. People who ordered after me were getting their orders before me which is fine but it is also why my order was wrong.. A little more organization will go a long way
Never had a 'Cuban Sandwich' before….oh my word. A fan, a big fan….I'm not entirely sure how it fits in with my 'clean eating' regime (highly unlikely it does)….but it's oh so worth it.
5 mins of eating heaven.
What I've tried: Cuban sandwich, chicken and beef empanadas, tres leches
Tip: add the plantains and green sauce to the cuban sandwich! The plantains are sweet and the sauce is just a tad spicy. delicious.
Story: Got takeout from here on the recommendation from a friend and keep coming back. The cuban isn't exactly as good as the ones I've had in Miami, but the plantains and green sauce take it to another level. The empanadas are delicious and my friends and I went bonkers on the tres leches.
This place has yummy home cooked meals but be forewarned it is expensive — on average $11 or so for a lunch. I am not sure why when it comes down to rice beans and a meat plate but I will commend them on the quality food. I got the Spicy chicken, which was solid. Don't forget to add the green sauce! It is spicy!
